Last week the Lions sat 6 players due to injury, the same number as Washington. Their injury report from 11/10 including Injured Reserve consists of 17 players. Washington has 11. Last season the Lion's secondary was decimated, they were starting multiple players who were sitting on their couch. Hutchison was gone early too and they still went 15-2.
Yes we lost Terry and Jayden, other teams have lost star players as well. It was bad this season no doubt. But this is not the reason their season is over.
I think the reason the season is over is a combination of WR-QB injuries, Edge and now CB. Yes, they've had plenty of others. But there really isn't anything to drive the offense or defense. There is zero to hang your hat on.
If the Lions last year were Hendon Hooker throwing to Jaylin Lane, Chris Moore and Robbie Chosen along with their defensive injuries their season would have almost for sure fallen apart.
But heck in 2024 you still got Jared Goff, J. Gibbs, St. Brown, Laporta, J, Williams, with a killer O line, that's one heck of a group.
If Washington had a crap defense but also Jayden starting, J, Gibbs, Laporta, J. Williams, St. Brown and maybe the best O line in the league, they'd likey win at least 11 games.
Injuries I do think is the reason the season is over. I do think there were holes on the roster and piss poor defensive coaching. But if they had a normal amount of injuries versus this insane number, I'd think they end the season worst case 8-9 but I wouldn't be surprised if it was 10-7.
Sheehan mentioned asking Keim who has covered this team for 25 or so years and Keim told him this team has never had a season with this number of injuries.
