Does he fit our personnel? I'd assume this is part of the discussion, at least on the defensive side of the ball--who fits what we have? What changes would we need to make, should we hire DC A, DC B, or DC C?

He was, but it was an example. I thought the promotion rules only applied to coordinators? I thought you could sign position coaches away, if they wanted to go? I could be making this all up too...

That's just hyperbolically pessimistic. Luvu was All Pro last year, and misused this year due to a variety of issues--coaching and injuries. Sanristil is still young enough to develop; Amos showed enough to think he'll be a good corner. Magee flashed. Newton flashed. Kinlaw is a good plug in the middle. I like motivated Payne (and then let him walk). Martin and Miller are good situational pass rushers. Eagles went from last to first in defense under Fangio and adding basically 2 players in Mitchell and deJean.

This is just not a rational response.

Team has the right to block, but won't always. So it's not league rules that prohibits it, it's the team. We can't just go signing willy-nilly, but possible, just not very probable.

What personnel? We’re in a great spot to retool that entire D, there’s literally not one player I would “plan” around right now on the defensive roster. Maybe Amos, to a tiny degree, but he’s capable of playing in nearly any D so it’s fine

Edit: the guys who have “flashed” that you named, especially the ones with some draft pedigree, you want to hire someone that can find a role for them, sure. But no way in hell you’re making a hire specifically around unproven developing players, it’s not even clear where they’re at their best yet. You hire an experienced guy to figure that out, because Whitt couldn’t.

You are not seeing the forest from the trees. If Flores was down to come here but told AP he wanted Sainristil, Newton and Magee gone, you would not hire him?

Imo, that isn't really a major factor because I don't think that we hardly have any established personnel.

They really should have officially announced Whitts firing previously. At the end of the day, they are gone and DQ is starting almost from scratch or so it feels

He just fractured his fibula, he’ll be fine long before training camp. That’s a painful injury but nothing chronic about it

Oh I wasn't worried about it being a chronic injury, but we have all seen those players that get injured like that and hear footsteps. Again I hope he comes back 100% both physically as well as mentally, he showed a lot of promise prior to his injury.

Gotcha. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a player have negative mental effects from a fractured/broken bone. With ligaments, or torn muscles, you don’t trust your own body for a long time when you put weight on it and shift, move, cut. Broken bones don’t tend to leave that sort of psychic scarring because once they heal, they heal stronger and leave no lingering limitations other than whatever slight muscle atrophy accompanied the healing period.

If there is such a stat, one of my primary metrics for our next DC would be 1st half vs 2nd half results. One of APs reported strengths when hired was the appropriate use of data driven technology. Bring to us the DC who has been shown to be among the best at adjustments. It seems to have been forever since we had a staff that outcoached the opposition.

As candidates (and rumors of such) are being linked to our spot, is there a easy way to access this info somewhere? I'm curious about Yale grad Patrick Graham already. I'm glad he's a rah-rah guy, but we have Quinn for that. We need Smart coaches who can adapt.

Graham did a lot better in Las Vegas than I thought. He had top-half of the league rated defenses despite Maxx Crosby and nothing else.
