Blood has nothing to do with it. He's been an awful DC and has essentially been removed already. My question in that scenario would be - would he be the best secondary coach available or does Quinn prioritize being a nice guy over what's best for the team?
Hope not. And if I agree to come in as DC, I want the power to retain or release existing staff in that unit. Al Harris was coaching those DBs in Dallas. I think Whitt was some kind of 4th Down Pass Defense Coordinator (I kid), or some similar title, assisting Harris.

You cannot have a serious organization and demote a guy permanently, keep him in the building around all the players you asked to respect him, and then give him a new boss while he’s in a lesser role. Absolutely not. That would be a clown show
It’s Black Monday. They’ve had over a month to evaluate Whitt’s future, since he lost playcalling duties and the writing went on the wall. Do the guy the favor of firing him at the same time as everyone else for god’s sake, when it’ll be a minor story. No reason to hang on.
To be fair there are a couple other organizations doing player debriefs today and then staff tomorrow, with more firings coming. But come on. Whitt is an obvious goner.

Didn't they already do this with Doug Williams and Martin Mayhew in the front office?
Not nearly the same. Doug Williams was always way more of a personality hire than anything else, and personnel duties aren’t player-facing anyways (referencing when he still had them). They moved him into an almost ceremonial player-mentoring role. But nobody in the locker room ever saw him working before, as a FO guy.
Mayhew is a glorified consultant. Again, you aren’t asking anyone in that locker room to give a shit what his job is. He’s a background guy.
It’s way different with coaches. Especially coaches who used to be near the top of the food chain.

That's fair. If they go the Raheem or Ullbrich route, just remember both guys worked with Whitt in 2020 in Atlanta so they know him (although that season obviously didn't go well)

GM is a player facing role. They are the folks players first really get to know when they enter an organization and some GMs spend a lot of time in the locker room getting to know players like Scot McCloughan (no idea how much time Mayhew spent getting to know players).
You are right that there aren't many cases of guys at Whitt's level being retained in lower roles the next season but I don't necessarily buy the "respect" thing. I remember Keim mentioning on one of his pods that the players still had great respect for Whitt during the struggles.
For secondary coach, if they go the Ullbrich route, I'd love to also bring in Rutenberg and Hood who I felt did a great job with Atlanta's secondary. Rutenberg has an impressive resume where he was the Jets LB coach before that and spent a year in SF prior. He actually started his pro career working for Joe Gibbs here as his assistant
Certain things should not examining, he has lived with them through the year

I assume they are reviewing position coaches too and seeing what changes need to be made there too--if they want to keep anyone. I do find it funny how everyone on the socials assume Kingsbury is a goner and Whitt is staying...

I would think they would want the new DC making calls on staff. There are connections there.
For example, guess who the vet in the LB room was in SF when Ullbrich was a rookie.

I would be fine if they brought in Ullbirch, kept Norton and Tapp, and fired Donatell and Simmons into the sun. Maybe even convince Al Harris to ditch Chicago and come for Assoc. HC./Pass Game Coord like they gave Brian Johnson.
Why would anyone think that, just people freaking out? Random fans on socials have to be THE lowest common denominator that we talk about

I believe Brian Johnson had already been fired by the Eagles when we gave him that. Not sure if we can pull Al Harris away per league roles wo a DC title.
The Gibbs 2.0 teams did that all the time w assistant HC and associate HC titles but I want to say the league changed the rules

He was, but it was an example. I thought the promotion rules only applied to coordinators? I thought you could sign position coaches away, if they wanted to go? I could be making this all up too...

Does he fit our personnel? I'd assume this is part of the discussion, at least on the defensive side of the ball--who fits what we have? What changes would we need to make, should we hire DC A, DC B, or DC C?
