Quan is not having a good season, Percy has never shown me he is even a solid defender, Owens is completely unproven as a defender and Reavo struggles in coverage.

CJGJ would very easily be the best safety on this squad if we signed him

Then why would an 0-3 team that traded for him this past offseason decide he wasn't good enough?

Tyler Owens - Have heard nothing but good
Jeremy Reaves - Very solid contributor beyond ST. Having his best season of his career

Savage was likely brought in as depth and to be used situationally. I don't think they're as worried about the safety room as fans are.

And that’s not a guy this coaching staff and front office is going to sign.

You are getting back to my point from my original post. Great organizations with great cultures like the Lions and Eagles have had this guy the past 3 years. We don’t have the faith in the strength of our culture that these other teams do.

Given they brought him back last year, they were clearly comfortable having him in the fold. The reason they let him go was money. He was due $9M this season. The fact they replaced him with a cheap rookie vs a veteran ties to that. Part of the veteran purge with Slay, Williams, Sweat and Graham

The other potential take in this situation is that two other competitors with arguably stronger existing cultures both gave up on this guy after concluding they couldn’t fix him, so why should we take that gamble on an older version of the problem player at an earlier stage in our attempt at building a culture?

I’d agree with you if we were talking last season but, after a year of the culture being established, it’s time to take low risk shots on guys like this. If he is a nuisance here, cut him.

Idk, I get your point but our locker room doesn’t feel strong right now. The bit of magic and solid brotherhood that carried us last year feels very fragile right now and has since week 1. Things are spiraling on defense, I think the wrong type of spark could light the powder keg in a bad way. We don’t have a strong, pervasive culture successfully installed yet, we caught a glimpse of what that could look like last year and then after sniffing the NFCCG once we’re back to being afraid of our own shadows again and playing soft.

We aren’t one asshole DB away from winning a SB at this point, even if that asshole was an All-Pro. This dude isn’t an All-Pro.

If we want to get Whitt fired sooner we should probably bring him in though, they’ll be fist fighting at practice by week 9. That might actually help us

That was a hard watch on defence. No pressure from DL to the QB. Bijan was cutting through us at ease in that first half. And secondary clearly has some communication issues. Maybe the secondary issues stemmed from Harris absence and they need to adjust again. Our defence success this year has been predicated on stopping the run to generate 3rd and long. Didn’t happen enough today and when it did they were able to get a receiver open. Just a disappointing day.

This will sound cold but this D will improve if Lattimore goes down/gets benched and we can go with Trey and Mike on the outside and Noah on the inside. After watching him in 24 NFL games, I can confidently say that Mike is a much better outside corner than a slot corner at the NFL level. He sucked at it last year and he sucks at it this year.

I would also go sign Beanie Bishop off the Steelers practice squad to give us additional nickel depth and allow Jones to play outside when he returns.

There are times where Lattimore appears to be the weak link and targeted by the opposition. I have yelled at the TV more than once during games to bench him. It would be worth a shot at making the move you suggest. Not only would it give the players a shake up that could help and make them communicate better but it could wake up Lattimore.

I would add that we need help at linebacker, Wagner is bad outside of the box, need some more speed at the position. I understand that they don't yet trust McGee and Medrano (who was active yesterday) but at some point they need to rotate these guys in more.
