2025 Commanders Transactions Thread

We signed Darnell Savage to replace Harris. He was good never really lived up to his first round promise in GB but got himself a multiyear deal in JAX. He has been terrible there and got cut earlier this month. Whitt and Simmons know him from GB. Hope they can fix him. If they can, it would allow Quan to play in the box more

It may also be a factor that he knows the defense. Not necessarily that he's a 'premium' signing, but more that he likely can play THIS weekend with the loss of Harris. Most other guys walking the street could take weeks to get up to speed. Grab him knowing he's available quick and if not, there's little invested.

Interesting points about Savage. And of course we still have Reaves/Butler/Owens in the mix. Not an impressive group per se, but a decent blend of vets/athleticism. Speaking of which, I was somewhat surprised to see Owens played 19 snaps to Butler’s 1 (Reaves had 46, Harris 23, out of 66).

Also, man I’m glad we didn’t trade Igbinoghene…

With JJB likely hitting IR, I’m going to be a little surprised if Ferrell is not back here this week. I understand why the FO elevated Holmes went Wise went down given he was already on the PS. If he isn’t back here, there is probably a lingering beef between him and the org.

If we are looking for names outside the organization to add to the secondary, Beanie Bishop is a guy I’d seriously look at. He is on Pitt’s practice squad and had an ok rookie year in the slot. Lost a numbers game this year.

Ferrell signed with the Chargers to replace Khalil Mack about a week ago. And Raiders fans laughed because that’s exactly how they tried to replace Khalil Mack years ago

Ah did not realize that. He was one of the last notable guys around. Not a whole lot left in terms of players of note

FYI. From yesterday:

 Noah Brown going to IR after missing 4 weeks makes me mad.

So we signed the guy and immediately put him on IR.

He’s a young guy who was a FA due to an injury settlement, they probably wanted to see him hit certain rehab markers on his own before committing to him, liked what they saw, and now have him in the building with their medical staff rehabbing. And the roster spot on the 53 is open again now that he’s stashed. No risk, unknown reward on a high pedigree guy isn’t so bad. Similar to Burks tbh. The type of guys we should be trying to salvage rather than bringing in over the hill roster trash like Preston Smith and Savage just because they’ve produced in the past. I’d rather try to find another Ereck Flowers (Kinlaw?) to fix

I don't disagree. I didn't know he was a FA because of an injury settlement, that makes it make more sense. So thanks for that information.

Adding one more usually injured WR to the roster probably isn't going to move the needle.

I wouldnt sleep on Burks. Likely not going to be this weekend but he's a physical freak. Health is obviously the question, but at this point he's a supplemental piece, he shouldn't be walking into the building with some expectation that he's going to be a no. 1 WR.
