This screams like somebody from the Commander's PR department slipped Garafolo a $10 spot under the table and said "say something to help us drum up interest."
Anybody who watches film would know why Robinson fell out of favor, and anybody who looks at any analytics would have it doubly confirmed.
All of these guys have groups of people who do two things (pretty much all, now) - analytics, and watch tape.
There are plenty of bad analytics now on BRob, that is true. I think there are some good stats too, not all of it is bad (from memory). However, on tape, I think there are some things you can glean from it that are definitely positive, and point to issues in playcalling. I think there is still a largely held belief around the league that BRob is very capable. A lot of these guys can look at some simple things:
- number of carries, and timing of carries, per game
- per game performance
Generally see a trend that when BRob's usage is in a certain tier and flow, he performs well above average. We almost never hit that last year, with JD and the offense structured how it was. He simply isn't a good fit here. On top of that, on my personal side, his public quotes have really rubbed me the wrong way. I hate it when guys who aren't part of the main engine feel a need to give other teams bulletin board material, and he's done that multiple times. I generally dislike it, but hate it more when it's guys who generally don't have a big role in the wins.
I still remember, I'm sure all of you do too, when BRob was given like 50 carries by Scott to beat the undefeated Eagles a few years back. His usage was so sporadic and generally low, they were caught off guard, and BRob was more than up to the task. I think stuff like that can stick in people's minds, it's really good tape, and BRob has generally never had anything remotely consistently close to that here. So, there are arguments. Now, they just need to find a willing trade partner. This is, in my mind, a great move by AP.
