2024 - Way too early draft thread

That hit had nothing to do with the O-line though.... had RG3 been behind this line, he wouldn't have finished the season.

True, but the likelihood of that hit increases with a bad o line. Bad hits can come from scrambling, but we've also seen QBs wrecked from blindside hits within the pocket.

That was more an indictment of griffin than it was an argument against your point.

But yes I agree with you. Anyone who had griffins mentality was gonna eventually get hurt, which scares me about Daniels and his body type

Yeah, agree on Daniels. I may be wrong, but his recklessness scares me almost as much as his inaccuracy.

The crazy thing about Daniels (and I have watched 2 complete recorded games) is that his inaccuracy only shows up on easy short to medium level throws (often to wide-open targets). He is very accurate on deep balls. Kinda weird.

Some QBs have trouble with rhythm throws like that where it's '1... 2... 3... hit the TE over the middle'. It is weird though as it's so counter-intuitive.

Is it that or is the same inaccuracy present, but receivers have more time to adjust to the ball that’s in the air longer? In other words, is he more accurate on long throws or are his playmakers better able to track the ball?

Great question, burgold.

Daniels has 2 WRs who are projected to go in the first half of the first round so he has serious playmakers.

Here's the thing....we should be excited/positive about Sam Howell.

Why? Alot of growth happens between Year 1 and 2.

He made it through a whole season on a bad team with a bad OC. Just think about all the Qbs this team has had that couldn't even do that!
"You throw a young guy in there and let him get beat up all to pieces and if he's still standing at the end of the season, you probably got something to work with"- John Madden

Now, he has all offseason to watch film, evaluate his play, note weaknesses and work on his game.
He keeps his QB coach and gets to work with, what appears to be on the surface, a new and improved staff.
Plus now, hopefully, a GM that can get pieces to support him.

If this staff is on the up and up, even if they draft a QB at 2, they'll let Sam and the new guy compete. That's the way it should be.

So color me optimistic on Sam and the QB spot in general.

And it's an OC that has created and implemented his OWN system and called the plays for those packages.

EB to me was Coordinator Light because it was a borrowed scheme and he never called the plays on game day in Kansas City.

His handling of the quarterback position was something you would expect from an inexperienced coach.

The fact that Caleb Williams has said he won't throw at the combine would immediately move him off my draft board if I was a GM or HC

Do any blue chip QBs throw at the combine? I thought pretty much all blue chippers do is show up to get weighed, measured, and interviewed. And not just the QBs, but almost all of them skip the combine workouts and arrange a private workout at their college where they control everything.

The top guys haven't thrown at the combine for a few years, if memory serves. I mean, if you're Caleb and already the projected #1 overall, there is nothing to gain and much to lose by throwing and maybe having an off throw or two.

I'd also not be surprised at all if Maye and Daniels opt out, for the same reasons. They're already pretty much made men.

The next tier though ... McCarthy, Nix, Penix ... if I'm in their camps, I'm absolutely recommending they use the platform.

He's screwing himself more and more.

Wanting a piece of the franchise. Even if just a rumor it looks bad

Not playing in bowl game. Even if people think it's legit it's one more thing.

Not throwing. One more thing.

It all adds up to another problem. I'd rather stick with Howell than with someone who has a lot of weird issues around him.

None of the top 3 are throwing at the combine. McCarthy, Nix, and Penix are…because it benefits them.
