Rivera was terrible. Give AP some time before you pass judgment. He's been a key factor in turning this franchise around and I think he deserves a little time. No GM hits 100% on their picks. Remember he also had to rebuild the scouting office as well

Competitive teams have half a dozen or usually more legit players drafted 2-5 years ago. All of our legit drafted guys are from the Kyle Smith drafts while doofus dan was still meddling.

It's pathetic when all you have to show from the past decade is Payne, McLaurin, a usually injured Cosmi, and a punter. Meanwhile guys like Gonzales, Hamilton and Darrisaw, no brainer choices, somehow eluded the brilliant minds of Riverboat Ron and his chosen group of incompetents.

Peters first draft brought Daniels, Sainristil and Coleman. If one decent starter emerges between Sinnott, McCaffrey, or Newton, I would call that a solid draft. Even the best GMs whiff on some picks - as Parcells said, if you hit on half your picks, you're doing a good job. He struck gold with Luvu and Ertz, and got good one year rentals with Chinn and the DE who went back to Dallas. He's whiffed badly Harris and Gay (anyone else miss Kam Curl?)
I was bullish on Sinnott, but my faith in him has been eroding with each passing game.

The only move that looks really bad to me is Lattimore. Hopefully he improves. The other were not high cost.

We can blame the ghosts of the past but so far what I see is an offense in need of young contributors and we drafted a TE in Round 2 and a WR in Round 3 in 2024 and neither one of them are doing much to show they were more than reaches.

I hear a lot about development and learning the position but these guys in Sinnott and McCaffrey don’t look like they are on pace to be NFL starters.

For a team that as folks have indicated here has dealt with a talent deficit from the Rivera years, we really needed the team to target prospects that high that were good bets to come in and play in at least a contributing role.

In going back over the draft bios Sinnott was not rated among the top 90 players by most services and McCaffrey was recently converted to WR from QB in college.

Are you telling me we couldn’t find a WR in the top 100 picks that wasn’t closer to being NFL ready at a fundamental level?

Contrary to some sunny side up reports from camp it looks like both players are now roughly where they were on the depth chart last year.

In fact you can make the argument that Yankoff has improved and is moving up quickly to pass Sinnott as a UDFA.

Ditto for Jaylin Lane as a slot receiver.

Lattimore should improve as their scheme improves. He is a legit NFL CB. He looked like a scrub to be sure. Whitt was out schemed. There is no other explanation of why dudes were wide open all day on Thursday.

Defense is going to be challenged - the talent at DE was questionable to start camp and Wise was the perhaps the one guy that looked to be a three down player with some necessary grit and toughness.

Baptiste and Martin are too small to set edge and defend the run. Armstrong is a good pass rusher but is more in that specialist category. Holmes is a practice squader while Miller is 36 years old and his run support days are over.

I don’t know what Peters is thinking in just sitting by and watching the couple of remaining veteran DL get signed while standing pat.

Perhaps Kinlaw could move outside if Johnny Newton showed he could come in and tandem with Payne to stop the run.

But so far in his career Newton has shown athleticism and some rush skills but not the strength at the line at 285 to be a consistent force against the run either.

Who is a difference maker outside JD? With 5 picks in rounds 2 and 3, we got ourselves a good but not great slot and a guy who has been bad as a starting guard so far and three backups.

Regarding the former, as a slot CB, Mikey is a poor man’s DeJean and Phillips. Ironically, he’s probably worth his slot as an outside CB, which he appears to be better as through 22 pro games

My thoughts are now that with Bates taking on the Don Warren role of being the third tackle on the field that Yankoff will push past Sinnott and play if Ertz goes down during the season as the safety valve for Daniels.

Yeah bringing in Tunsil felt like a good move but then taking Conerly felt weird, especially with so many good players available at need positions.

Regardless, we were not in a position to draft a TE early this year for sure after signing Ertz and Bates plus having the 2nd rounder Sinnott. They really need Sinnott and perhaps Yankoff to step up and prove their worth if Bates is indeed going to miss time.

I agree. The TEs I really wanted went early, except Fannin. I liked him a lot. The WR I liked a lot, Ayomayer looked great yesterday. Titans are a fun team. Ward looks legit.

I took unanimous beef from everyone around here about not liking the Tunsil trade. Simmons looked good yesterday too.

I don’t mind it at all. For me building the line in front of Jayden was and is top priority even at the expense of other positions. Can’t have everything, but have to have that. Drafting a college LT and moving him to RT is actually pretty common, I don’t see the big deal. Dudes played two games, both against pro bowl pass rushers. Give him a chance!

It's common for players outside of the first round. What next? A guard at 5?

It felt weird but, at the time, I totally understood the FO's take. In this league, after QBs, OTs are the hardest players to find so, if you can take one you really like, it is never a bad idea.
