I guess we will see...we are in control of our own destiny for at least another week. I wouldn't say that we are "likely" to stay that way for the remainder of the season. Unless you believe we will never slide out of the 7 slot. For a team that has dropped 3 straight (and is one fortunate deflection away from dropping 4 out of their past 5), I don't know that holding a 0.5 game lead is something I'd classify as likely.

I mean there aren't really that many teams in contention to be honest when you look at it carefully. One of the two between Atlanta and Tampa will win their division and the NFC West will all beat each other up. GB and Minnesota are so far ahead and playing so much better that we can just ignore them and concede the 5 and 6 seeds. Its all about playing for the 7 seed.

The path is clear: beat Atlanta and win two other games and we're in all likelihood in.

No I get that. I think there's a very, very good chance that Washington gets the 7-seed.

All I'm saying is that if Tampa slips ahead at any point in the next week or two then, by definition, the Skins don't "control their own destiny" because they'll be needing Tampa or Atlanta to lose games to make the playoffs. If you are scoreboard-watching, you aren't in control. A month ago, they didn't have to concern themselves about the NFC West or NFC South. Now they might.

I understand and think we're talking past each other. As of this moment, we control our own destiny. The fact that at this time next week it's possible that we won't is mind boggling considering that a month ago we were a 2-loss team and some fans were wondering if we might challenge for the 1-seed. That's all I'm saying. Clearly if we don't lose again, we still control our own destiny for the post season.

New Orleans seems to be the swing game (in my mind). I think the Dallas rematch and the Atlanta game are W's while the Philly rematch is a potential L. If Washington beats the Saints, I don't see anyone else getting to 11-6.

If not, I see a small amount of danger of Tampa getting to 10-7. I still don't think they will (I'd put it at 25%), but it's not impossible for them with Dallas, New Orleans, Carolina, and Las Vegas still on the schedule (I think they'll lose to the Chargers).

So, Washington goes 3-1 down the stretch and they are almost guaranteed a spot. 2-2 gives them a 75% chance. Anything less than that and they are hoping for another team to lose more than one game that they shouldn't (which could also happen).

I agree that New Orleans is a very important game (I always think that the next game is.)

The Saints are 2-8 over their last 10 games so it would be nice to steal their soul early. I also think that playing indoors on turf accentuates Daniels athletic advantages. It will be a fast track and it won’t be cold 😉 or windy.

Yeah, beating Atlanta also nudges the Bucs into the division winner role and removes them from competition for the playoff spot. Maybe that was implied in your post!

Who do we need to root for & against in week 14?

If we don’t beat the Saints and no Dak Cowboys we don’t deserve to make the postseason.

These are largely veteran teams that will face coaching and personnel turnover after the season is over, have a boatload of injuries and little motivation coming down the stretch.

Whatever life these team show is directly proportional to how much you give them.

If you come out and vomit your lunch as we did two weeks ago against Dallas then they will be glad to take the win.

But if you come out and punch them in the mouth neither club has the quarterback or offense to mount a big comeback and go toe to toe for 60 minutes.

Giants over Saints (though that one doesn't really matter...more to keep NO from thinking they're good)
Raiders over Bucs to push the NFC South loser out of the playoff hunt
Seahawks over Cardinals to keep the status quo in the NFC West and push the NFC West loser further down in the playoff hunt

Bears over 49ers (though this one doesn't really matter)

Giants over Saints seems virtually impossible, and the only way I see Tampa Bay losing is if Mayfield can't play.

Vikings over Falcons. We concede a 5 or 6 seed to Vikes. Let them bury the Falcons some more.


Raiders over Bucs. unlikely but ya never know.


Seahawks over Cardinals. We want one team to pull away in the West. We have tiebreaker over Cards so them hitting their 7th loss effectively ethers them as competition.


Bills over Rams. Easy AFC over NFC. Rams would get loss number 7.


Bengals over Cowboys. Cowboys are still very much in the race. Gotta get them down to 8 losses.


Im not worrying about the Eagles. Realistically there is no path to the NFC East anymore unless they just completely collapse. Im also not worried about the Bears with 8 losses and we have tiebreaker or a crippled 7 loss 49er team.


There is also a potential scenario later that well want the Bucs to WIN. Basically we want to avoid a 3 way tie with the Bucs and Falcons. We arent at that point yet though and we may never get there, but something to think about.
