2023 Washington Roster Moves

Okay - but I think you are talking about two separate things. Whether a player pans out is one thing. Whether he was the right pick where he was drafted is another. And the other thing is, we can’t be sure with a given pick if it was a ‘need’ pick, a ‘BPA’ pick, or a combination of those two things. I get that with picks like the Mathis selection, it appears to be a ‘need’ pick, but we can’t know that for sure.

As far as Mathis goes, I think it’s very questionable right now whether he’ll pan out. Was he the right pick there? I think most of us would say no because we had greater needs AND (at least right now with limited data) he doesn’t appear to be a guy who is going to be a starter. Whether he was a need or BPA (in their judgment) I don’t know.

I don’t recall ever hearing Eric Stokes speak previously. Sharp guy.

I don’t think injuries (sometimes shit just happens) qualify as ‘blown’ status. Drafting a guy with an injury history and hoping he stays healthy only to be wrong would. But, that is not the case in this situation.

Looks like Jamin is available for this season

Crowder? I mean, how old is he by now? And why on earth would we bring someone like him in given the depth at WR?

Because Terry is hurt more than they're letting on and we need depth. That's the only reason I can think of.

This is correct. The biggest indicator on a players injury is how active a team is in looking for a replacement. By replacement I mean spot on the roster, not necessarily playing the same role.

Crowder as a returner,maybe?

It's hard to believe that a pro staff can't develop and PR/KR that could at least be a decent threat in the return game.

What the hell do they do all day out at Ashburn?

McLaurin will be on the field Sunday - just my guess.

We have 7 WRs on the active roster and 2 more on the Practice Squad. I don't think they are worried about depth. Returns maybe, but Crowder hasn't played a full season since 2017, so not like he's had a lot of work there. I don't know, kicking the tires doesn't hurt anything, but he's looked washed for awhile now.

I agree.

IIRC he only left to get a big payday that we weren't going to give him. I know he's no #1, but he could be a good presence and return guy. We will definitely need a vet presence with the WRs if Terry is hurt.

Low risk move whether he sees the field or not 👍

It feels a little weird to go backwards with a guy who was never on that coach's roster and had no relationship with Front Offfice.

don't sleep on the Bieniemy factor

i don't think Rivera had Crowder's name circled on some white board, it was likely someone else's

I think they just looked at his experience level and felt it was a no brainer in terms of signing him to the practice squad. I'm actually surprised he was willing to do it.

Dax Milne to IR, William Bradley-King to the active roster. Pretty likely that means no Chase Young on Sunday.
