Collins will be a June 1st cut to get max cap savings I believe, with Ionaidis, Flowers and Collins gone I think its like 27 million in savings - queue up the contract extensions

The plan is the Rivera regime collects their severance checks and politely fields a no man's land team for the foreseeable future. Wentz provides enough thrills and wins to keep people just optimistic enough and out of the top 10 pick race.

I could give one rat’s ass if an agent is happy. We made a lot of agents happy when Cerrato was writing checks. If agents are passed off we probably have our priorities right (just sayin’…)

With letting go Ioannidis I would have liked to keep Settle.

Letting them both go while tendering Wise tells me they like Wise a lot or are targeting a FA somewhere. Or both.

Dropping Flowers at $10 million only to target Norwell who is likely to want Scherff money I find an odd idea but I've listened to Canadian Hog preach about Matsko for so long that I think we would be fine with Betty White playing OG.

I am with you on Settle, Neophyte. In fact, I would have even been inclined to pay Settle, tell him he has a starting gig beside Allen, and traded Payne for some draft capital this year or in future years. It would help set the table for potentially paying Terry long-term, and locking up one of Young or Sweat for the future too.

Yeah, I can't see a big money Guard coming here. A) you are paying them a lot of money, much like what Flowers was due to make this year, B) said Guard won't give you a Scherff level of production, so why bother? You are better off at that point if you aren't inclined to make the investment to leave it up to Matsko's wizardry to develop a cheaper option. Again, I don't think the book is written on Charles. We nabbed him in the 4th round, he was projected to go higher, and towards the end of last year in four starts, he finally showed that he might be able to contribute. When people talk about having a plan, I think he has been part of their plan all along, but needed time to marinate.

Three fifths of Matsko's line a year ago was new. The only returning guys he brought back going into '21 were Scherff and Roullier. He also made chicken soup out of you know what with guys going down left and right towards the end of last year. Despite all that, we were still the sixth ranked line in the NFL. As of now, with Leno, Roullier, Cosmi, and assuming Schweitzer, we still project to bring back four guys who played a fair amount a year ago. We know what they can each bring to the table. You also got the likes of Ismael, Larsen, and Charles as depth, who saw a sizeable amount of playing time in a pinch. You assume these guys will be better off for that experience from a year ago going forward. Hell, we entered last year fairly concerned about LT and when it was all said and done, Leno put those worries to bed for the most part. I am not saying these guys are the Hogs by any means, but coaching played a significant role in their level of play last year. We lacked big names up front, but they were steady and reliable. I think we will be okay without Flowers and there are some lesser known guys out there that can be effective and add competition if we decide to add them in the coming weeks. Remember, if it means helping to retain McLaurin, we will all be dancing in the streets.
 
Wentz will cause the oline to regress regardless. It's a part of Wentz syndrome. There will be debate in the fanbase on whether it's Wentz or it's the oline during next season, guaranteed.

Yes, exactly. It just looks like they have a plan, but the plan honestly looks pretty shaky. It looks like if McKissic didn't give them an option to make him an offer, he'd be gone. I don't like the sound of that. I'm glad McKissic likes it here, that just goes back to why we wanted him to stay. Guys who want to stay (and that is EXACTLY how he sounded last year, so a guy who actually says what he means? Please keep him if he maintains as a good value!). Settle seemed very similar to me; a guy who put in the work and said what he meant.

The job of a GM has to include a lot of vision; a lot of looking into the future and making the moves that not just look at "now" but also the future in many dimensions. It can't be like "OK, we are not going to be hosed next year" (which is how I look at the Wentz deal; he is a rental that doesn't hose them next year). That is a recipe for treading water. If this team is to get better, and I have seen many here write about it, they absolutely need to be more creative and forward-looking.

My top two complaints, I think I share the first one with many of you; PAYNE. He feels like a guy we should really have considered moving away from, and keeping Settle. Keeping guys who are homegrown talents (Settle is even from Manassas, VA; he had a lot of connection to this area too, and was upfront about that as well), those are guys who can be those building blocks. Payne is a guy where, if you are building a future world-beater, you try to extract value before he becomes a cap casualty anyway. We just can't afford everyone. To me right now, it seems clear that a mistake was made. Is it that Settle didn't come back to them, the way McKissic did? I mean, that is kind of a foolish way to do business.

My other complaint that's brewing: Flowers. Again, is this a rental situation? In this case, though, they gave up draft capital. For what, exactly? Some of the individual moves the GMs are making, I can see some solid thinking. However, in long-term considerations, I am seeing a severe lack of foresight. That doesn't bode well for change; it smells like 8-8 at best with a regime like that. Also, saying that; I don't know why players are going to give this team a chance to match. I am not clear on how this team should view itself that way. By no means should they beg and plead, but there always needs to be mutual respect, and some of the respect you want has to be earned first. Just not sure the Commanders have done that.
 
$3 million for at best a 4th WR.

Humphries and Carter both unsigned and both were significantly better than Sims last year. Honestly, this concerns me more than any of the rest of the moves so far.
