2021 Roster Updates

what a freaking shame if true. Another good ol boy gone for no good reasone.

Trent Murphy is the other.

Flowers plays LG. So if you get rid of Scherff, you’re still not out of the woods at RG.
Also wonder if they believe Charles can play LT?

I support the trade for Flowers. He was a guy I would have liked the team to bring back for 2020. We are talking a swap of what sounds like Day 3 picks, which at best, normally provides teams with depth pieces. Flowers gives you a starting piece, while simultaneously improving the depth on the interior with a proven guy in Schweitzer, as opposed to a rookie late round pick. I have said that I have always felt Schweitzer was found money last year. There is no guarantee he plays to that level again in 2021, so I like how the team is being proactive here.

Even if this move is being made more in response to the future of Scherff, it gives you flexibility and is smart in that regard.

I still say there is a real need to add one more piece on the offensive line high in the draft and hope this doesn't mean we go elsewhere in round 1 or 2.

Consider this depth chart:
Left Tackle: 1st/2nd Round Tackle, Lucas
Left Guard: Flowers, Schweitzer/Charles?
Center: Roullier/Larsen
Right Guard: Scherff/Schweitzer/Ismael/Benschwazel
Right Tackle: Moses/Lucas/Sharpe

I think Alijah Vera Tucker is the perfect add at 19. He could act as a swiss army knife that can play wherever needed in the event of injury. If required in such a role, you then have a guy in Lucas who is fairly steady at LT and has got the job done. You can roll with him for a bit. Best case scenario, everybody plays well, stays healthy, AVT starts at LT and you allow Lucas to be the swing man at Tackle.

You make that move and we could be saying for the first time in forever that the offensive and defensive lines are the 2 strongest units on this team.

All in all, I am excited about Flowers and will be doing some dancing if we pick Vera Tucker to complement it further.

I’m not sure AVT is an NFL LT. I think if we draft another OL it has to be a guy that we are certain can fill that spot... not a tweener. I could be wrong, that’s just the sense I get on AVT.

we need backup for Moses. the whole right side needs backups!

I can buy that argument, Boone. Even if he doesn't fit there at LT, I still say he is a great fit for our team because in the not too distant future, we could be potentially thin on starting quality players at RG and RT. I say this with an eye towards the future of Scherff and future/health of Moses. The apparent versatility AVT can give is a nice luxury to potentially have as we try to keep an eye out on succession planning upfront.

I will say this as well...that 1st and 2nd round approach the team takes is going to be quite telling about what they truly think of Shaddiq Charles, and if he has anything to realistically offer at the Tackle spot at the pro level.

Vera-Tucker is projected as a guard because he’s got short arms. We just traded for another guy who can’t play tackle, especially not on the left side. I don’t know why we would draft him at pick 19 if he isn’t going to play LT?

Did we just trade for Erick Flowers? Cool!

Swap of 7th rounders and a one year cost of 3m. Sounds like a steal.

So we basically got a Guard who proved he can start and be effective for free, along with a relatively cheap salary attached to him.

Big win.

We moved down 14 spots in the 7th round and they pay the bulk of his salary in 2021. I mean, that’s not a ham sammich but if you threw in a brownie and coke - it’s close.

are you offering ham sammiches and brownies?

Who’s excited about Jaret Patterson!
Check out his highlight reel. Our own Darren Sproles.

The Dolphins spent money like drunk sailors in free agency in 2020 and have had to cut or trade players to free up cap space going forward.

Someone mentioned that Washington could have just retained Flowers after 2019. True, but did you want to give him the 3 year, $30M contract with all the guarantees?

Or do you want to essentially rent the player to Miami for one year and then get him back in 2021 at age 27 with NO guarantees other than the $3M remainder on his current year salary?

What Flowers brought in 2019 was strength and power. He had quick enough feet to succeed inside. But at 6'5 and 325 he blows Wes Schweitzer and others here at OG away in terms of his ability win physical matchups. He's not a finesse player. A nice complement to Scherff for 2021.

Could see a few more signings in the coming days

what is up with Villanueva not being swooped up?

Did he get hurt and I dont know?
