Another is Sweat & Kerrigan are both moving to DL, so that's 2 down from the lb group off the bat. RR probably just felt safer with a couple vets in camp, always a chance none of the new guys make the cut.

I think Foster is still a possibility.
There's also McKinzy - very special.
and Braillford - very raw with potential. Although maybe a DE
And Pete Robertson. Shines in preseason and Special Teams

Some clearly for depth and ST help. Let me rephrase it - other than Elephant theorizing what evidence of Rivera and company not believing in Holcomb is there? :)
 
I'm cool with the LB signings. Esp considering both Rivera and Del Rio are respected defensive minds, and both played LB, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. And with Davis, he fits the need of changing the culture with a guy Rivera trusts and is already all-in.
 
I spent some time last week looking at the last few games we played, and a couple things jumped out at me ...

- the emergence of Ryan Anderson as a playmaker. The man was everywhere, starting to look like the guy we thought we might have drafted.
- the reality that Holcomb is--to my eyes--a game, instinctive but ultimately undersized rotation guy. I don't see him as an impact starter.
- that we needed to seriously upgrade our LB corps.

Anderson I'm thinking is a big plus. Beyond that, I think we need a serious across-the-board upgrade at the position, so I'm happy to see what appears to be recognition of that in the flurry of signings and re-signings. I don't think we're even close to done there.

Yea Anderson strikes me as someone who takes his game very seriously, will do anything to improve it, and hates losing or under-performing. A real work-horse and blue-collar guy. Comes from the same character mold as the other Bama guy we drafted last year. The only difference is Allen a is a littler more vocal. Anderson leads by example.

Keep in mind also that if you translate each of our Top 2 Coach's last names, in their respective languages, and convert them to English,
that each of them translate as "River".
There's numerous reasons why this is a good sign for our team, but just trust me on this.
 
Redskins sign FA Steelers Safety Sean Davis to a 1 year deal. Don’t know a lot about him other than that he was a University of Maryland guy and drafted in the 2nd rd of the 2016 draft. 26 years old.

So that gives us Fuller, Pierre-Louis, Thomas Davis, and Sean Davis as defensive signings thus far in free agency. Probably not what many people anticipated, but not something I am complaining about. Outside of Fuller (who will start), you have a collection of signings who are going to create competition at their respective positions, and starting experience sprinkled in the mix.

There are three things we all need to remember. 1) There is not any one huge signing that can instantly turn this team into a division winner. We are a 3-13 football team. In that regard, I am thrilled we avoided this route. 2) Many thought the defense was a pretty talented group coming into the season a year ago. The cupboard is not bare there and what we have brought aboard will hopefully complement it. We still have 3 very young and promising top picks on the d-line, another one likely joining it at #2, and that will become the bread and butter that we establish our defensive identity with. 3) The single most important signing was Rivera and Del Rio. Their influence alone on the defensive side will make up for a large quantity of deficiencies that we witnessed with shot for brains Manusky.

Get Chase, invest heavily with other picks in the draft on offense and colour me optimistic for once.
 
Nate Orchard, whose full name is Napaa Lilo Fakahafua Orchard was resigned. If you recall, we picked him up late last year and he impressed in 5 appearances with 8 solo tackles, 6 assists, 2 tackles for losses, and a sack. He's just 27 years old.

His story is a great one, and the relationship with his adoptive family is a touching one. Changed his name to honor them.

I actually would not be surprised.

1- it gives us a proven player at the very same position....and at the same time...
2- we get the additional draft picks that we desperately NEED.

Here's the problem, a lot of people are not acklowledging...
drafting Chase Young, even if he lives up to the hype, does not makes us a contender by himself.
We are lacking a #2 pick. Currently, that hurts.
