2014 Cuts, Releases, and FA Signings

Was it? Helu was hurt and we needed him to start. He did well when he did so he got another start.

Morris was a sixth round pick.

It's always hard to imagine a sixth round pick immediately becoming the starter. After all, the sixth round pick only played in preseason games, mainly against scrubs. Who can put any stock into that? Thank God Morris became the starter. We were guessing on him too.

It's expected that people have the same feelings about Redd.
Morris played more against first stringers in the preseason than Redd has.

Besides which the fundamental flaw in your argument is trading a RB will not get you what it would have even 3 years ago. Trent Richardson slammed that door shut, imo. Morris is worth more than the 4th we would be lucky to get for him.

Be happy Al is our RB. If he gets hurt and Redd tears it up, I KNOW I'll be thrilled. Redd has proven nothing at this point. NOTHING. Al is probably a top 5 back in the league. Forgive me for not falling head over heals for the new, unproven guy who hasn't done anything to warrant this trust.

Al is exactly the type of player and perso. I can be proud to have on my team. He works his ass off, doesn't produce problems, and chews up yardage in huge swaths. Preseason means NOTHING. Nothing. Al has done it when it counts. A lot.

Well, counting on a sixth rounder to start is a gamble, yes.

Starting Redd would be an even bigger gamble because of how great Morris is.

But yes, both were gambles.

When your starters blows his Achilles it goes from gamble to necessity in my eyes.

We'd get a lot more than a fourth for Morris, that's for sure.

I don't even think there is a need to trade Morris. Our roster looks pretty solid from where I sit.

Now if this had been a year or two ago, when our roster was pathetic, then yes, I'd consider trading a great RB to fill holes elsewhere.

No question, but when compared to trading for a proven starting RB in the league, versus hoping the sixth rounder can dominate, it was still a decent gamble. And one that worked very well.

If I hear trade and Morris in the same sentence again, someone is getting booted. Call it 'executive privilege' :)

Seahawks released Eric Winston, who some thought could start for them at RT.

This is a little interesting.

Especially if it were a one year, play your arse off deal.

I don't know enough about Winston, but I could see an argument for him on the squad.

Saints released WR Robert Meachem and CB Champ Bailey.

Whoa....Champ's career may be coming to an end.

Actually, the one that caught my eye was Major Wright being cut by Tampa... even though Morris hadn't coached him, we have a thing for picking up players from Tampa, and a seasoned safety may be appealing to some on staff.

Do you think Redd and Seastrunk looked comparable to the staff and the fact that Redd is going to be less expensive was part of the decision process? I think they will send Seastrunk to the PS and hope he stays there with the hopes that Thompson stays healthy... but if he doesn't.....

Waiver claims must be submitted to the league office by noon EDT. We should learn more about who goes where in a little over an hour from now. Practice squads will be filled in throughout the day.

Richard Crawford was told that he will not be signed to the PS. His career as a member of the Redskins is over.

Redskins claimed no players through the waiver wire.

Ted Bolser to the PS.

Redskins plan to add Chase Minnifield to the PS if he is not signed by another team.
