2014 Cuts, Releases, and FA Signings

Whoa, Malone beats out Cingan, and then some unknown guy with zero experience, comes in and beats out veteran Malone after just 4 punts ?

one of the local beat reporters said he doesn't think the punter for the Washington Redskins in 2014 isn't on the roster yet...

I guess that would make sense.......as long as it's a long-time proven veteran.
We can't afford to bring in an NFL newbie who makes his debut (or anything close to a debut) during the regular season

Way was very close with O'Donnell in Chicago this year until preseason games started. So a matter if he can perform under the lights. Likely he is not the long term answer as SilentThreat mentioned unless he can play as well as he practices.

Do you really want to know the best available free agent punter with NFL experience?
Well at least at the moment anyway.
Didn't think so...

They should cut Royster. He sucked against 3rd and 4th stringers.

Yea, answer that in about 24 hours

That won't be this moment until about 24 hours...

Yeah, probably what they are waiting for
twenty, twenty, twenty-four hours to go...

why not? its not like punter is the position that is gonna make or break our superbowl chances, I say let a young guy get a shot.

Also, it looks like Gruden will have the punter as the holder for kicks.
Do you really want a guy holding for PAT's and FG's during the regular season, who's still learning it ?

These guys typically have been holding in pee-wee, college, and of course in practice. Of course the more repetition with the kicker and holder the better, but that's not the most important skill we're looking for in a punter.

Got to watch the Buc game last night and considering that game and the rest of the preseason....

We have to keep Silas Redd. The man is a horse and if Morris should get hurt, imo, there'd be no drop off with Redd stepping in.

Royster should go

Thompson should be a no brainer when it comes to cuts. I don't care how fast you are, if you are constantly not available, that speed means nothing sitting on the trainer's table.

Seastrunk was practicing even though he was dinged up. That's more than Thompson was ever willing to do. Plus, we actually get to see Seatrunk's speed cause he's "available".

Morris
Helu
Redd
Seastrunk

Now when it comes to Ryan Grant? All I have to say is after years of trying, the Redskins finally drafted a legit wide receiver.

That guy is going to be special imo.

When it comes to kicker, I'm like the team, hard to decide that one. Like the youth and strength of Hocker but we lose the accuracy of Forbath if we do.

Be interesting to see what the team ultimately values here.

Last thing....very worried about the right side of the Oline. I don't think Chester can do it anymore and Polumbus has always been just another guy.

Sure hope that Long and Moses advance quickly in their development. To quote Princess Leia..."You're our only hope.."

I happen to prefer Seastrunk over Redd. either way......for 2014 season.....there are two factors in play in my mind:

1) who would actually play more as a rb? I don't see the advantage in Redd on this one. He's a replacement for ALF w/Helu filling a similar role. Seastrunk is an alternative for all the other rbs (except thompson) who brings a running style the team did not have last season.

2) who contributes more on special teams?

I just heard Seastrunk was cut? Is that true?

and Royster?

update....wow..

Crawford, Thompson, Seastrunk, Thomas, and Minnifield.

“@MikeJonesWaPo: Soure says Phillip Thomas, Chase Minnifield and Everette Brown have all been cut.” Got the feeling Thomas was in trouble.

EDIT:

Hocker cut too according to the twitter
