ahemmm...I think some other ideas that merit attention from the Allen presser were skipped. Aside from the ideas T mentions...the key one I heard was:
they were going to sit down and define what this Redskin team is about - what it's long-term goals and objectives are in respect to its identity on the field, the sorts of players the team will seek, etc. some of this will be mundane "we need a fast safety" sorta stuff, but I think what he was getting at is defining what the team identity is going to be moving forward and into the distant future. he more or less stated this was the foundation upon which a new coach's "schematics" would introduce some inflections. in organizational terms I took this to be the equivalent of a Mission Statement.
another line item: Hazlett not released. some are claiming this affirms the idea that Shanahan forced the 3-4 on everyone...including Hazlett (i.r., FO doesn't hold Hazlett directly accountable).
across the board, in media, Shanahan, Allen, everyone I heard commented that the cap hits had a significant impact. again: a pox on Mara.
I like what I heard today. Allen looked and sounded decisive. there will be separation of duties. all that said, given the investment in our young QB, the key to all this IMO is bringing in someone who knows how to groom that QB investment into a huge return.
