2013 NCAA Football Season

Well, the story should break by next week...the girl made it up. She originally told police she didn't know her attacker. She changed that story later and said it was the 1st time they had been together. Photos were on her FB page of the 2 of them before the incident. She was pissed because he would not leave his girlfriend for her and the bruises on her arms were from him defending himself from her when she attacked him. Turns out, her lawyer...a friend of a relative, is a Gator booster as is the writer who broke the story.

That may prove to be true, but I'm not sure i'd be posting it without confirmation by law enforcement. I've heard alternative theories that aren't as rosy. We should all want to reserve judgment until all the facts are in.

Inside sources at the police department in Tallahassee. If they're wrong...so be it. If he was going to be charged, he'd already have been charged.

I am just going to let things play out. You called me a liar once already within the last 24 hours. Think what you want.

I didn't call you a liar at all, dude. Not now or before. Relax. If you took at as me calling you a liar earlier, then we'll call it even because you called me an idiot.

Look - I'm not saying your sources aren't accurate - but police handling of this is under serious scrutiny - they are hardly a trustworthy source at this point. If I were an FSU fan, I would wait for the definitive facts to be determined. Anything other than that, in my opinion, is unseemly. The worst case for him is that he's been accused unjustly. The worst case for her is that she was raped. The truth will come out.
I'd suggest we withhold judgment until then.

And you two need to stop right now, while it's all still good.

I am not passing judgment. If it was rape, he deserves to go to jail...regardless of who he is. I am hearing a completely different side to the story than has been coming out the last couple weeks by an overzealous media who has only been given the story from the accuser. Now that leaks are coming from inside the Leon County State's Attorney's office, it looks like the girl is making the story up. There is allegedly some overwhelming evidence that suggests she has been lying from the start. There is the social media that has been uncovered and to top it off, the girl was part of a group of young girls at FSU called #cleatchasers. That alone does not make her a liar, but the inconsistencies are coming to the surface.

I don't have an opinion in the matter. But I think what you need to be careful of is being driven by what you want to be true. The least important aspect in all of this is FSU football. And there are a lot of reasons why women who've been the victim of crimes are hesitant to come forward or may have inconsistencies in their stories. Her story is that she was told (reportedly by a detective) not to pursue charges because of who the supposed perpetrator was and what that would entail. That fact alone, if true (and I'm not saying it is) would tend to explain not only her actions but also seriously call into question any information coming from law enforcement. You sound like you are citing 'leaks' from law enforcement as fact. That may not be what your intention is, but it sounds that way. If I were an FSU fan, I'd pipe down - because you can't be objective even if you try, any more than I could be if RG3 were accused of a similar crime.

The truth will come out eventually. PR campaigns aren't necessary. And if it turns out the girl is telling something close to the truth, think how badly you will feel.

I recall the Duke lacrosse case and how it looked bad for the players involved. Slowly but surely, the truth came out. It took a few months, but she was exposed as a fraud. Also, that same girl was convicted of murder this week. I'm not going to take firm sides here, but would it surprise anyone if this is a smaller case of "Duke II"? My guess is, at the very least, the Florida justice system wants to get it right after two high profile losses.

On another note...

The ACC's better teams handed out some punishment today. Florida St. puts 80 on the board and so does UNC. UNC could've gone over 100 easily, maybe close to 120.

For every Duke Lacrosse case, there were no doubt countless other cases of date rape, assault, or other abuse that were 100% factual. Seriously guys, let's try and not try so hard to be neanderthals. If the girl is lying, that will come out. But no one here has any idea if she's lying or not, and until that's been determined, it's unseemly to say anything that creeps up to 'blaming the victim'. I know that's not your intent, but I really feel strongly that supposed victims of crime be given some respect until there's conclusive evidence that they aren't, in fact, a victim.

Its sad that some people's first instincts are to think she made the whole thing up.

Hang on a second. You and I are fathers of daughters who have dated (mine went on to get married) and probably have had their challenges along the way when it comes to a guy who comes across as a bit aggressive - maybe more. We've done our best as fathers and hope we can lessen the worries that comes with such responsibilities. Heck, I still worry about Jess - not in her marriage, but from other situations in life and anything random.

However, as a former teacher, I have seen the other side of this issue and know that it takes nothing more than an accusation to destroy a life. It happened to a friend and it caused me to leave the profession early on. It took two years to clear his name, but the damage was done and he had to relocate far away.

As I said, I am not taking sides. I hope that is even clearer now.

I don't believe anyone intends to 'blame the victim', I'm just saying we should be careful to never approach this kind of topic from that perspective.

But again, one possible scenario here (the one 'alleged' by the way) is that a girl was raped by a popular talented college athlete. The other possibility is that she is lying. I'm not arguing that it will be 'just fine' if it turns out she is lying. Winston will suffer whether her claims turn out to be fact or fiction. As you stated, even false accusations can stigmatize and follow someone for years, even the rest of their life. But the worst possible outcome here is that she's telling the truth, but that she is marginalized or further victimized by having her credibility destroyed.

I'll say it again - unless one has first hand knowledge here, I would seriously advise piping down and steering clear of intimating she's a liar when, in fact, none of us knows that to be the case.

Perhaps discussion of this part of the NCAA football season should be moved to the PA?

Just don't have a let down next week in the ACC Championship!

So, who will be No. 1 tomorrow when the polls come out?

LOL at Alabuma.

Your periodic reminder that Nick Saban is a Bellicheat acolyte who, like his mentor, grew to outthink himself, and will likely implode the Alabama football program with NCAA sanctions.

Hey, Alabama. Have ya got a sec?

Bama could've used Mike Tomlin tonight.
