"Due back" doesn't mean playing well. I'm a big fan of his. That achilles likely caused the calf strain. He, and the Celts, could be in serious trouble in the playoffs.

Is is too late to take that Perkins trade back?:)

And on another note......Gil with 6 3-pointers tonight, and 25 points. Watch out, that team is heating up.
 
Celts are in serious trouble if they think they can win with Big Baby in the middle. He's a nice role player, but not the answer against Howard who will destroy him. I would prefer they just rest Shaq until they really need him and then hope he can contribute.

I saw Gil had a good game last night. Between you and me, he does that sometimes. Just don't count on it every night or even every other night at this point...

I know Dwight has already given Big Baby one concussion. It's only natural for him to flinch in the future. I don't blame him--I wouldn't want to guard him either.

And I know what you mean about Gil--he has been nearly worthless since coming to Orlando. But if he can start to hit some shots, especially 3s, that team is going to be dangerous.

It's kind of a shame that Howard is suspended for today's Magic/Bulls game. Although the game means nothing, and he can use the rest, one last Rose/Howard show during the regular season would have been great.

Now we will have to wait for the playoffs.

Just know that I can't remember another deadline deal knocking a team from "favorites" to "also-rans." There's no historical precedent. The trade undermined everything the Celtics were about: size, toughness, togetherness, chemistry, friendship, relationships ... it erased their identity Jason Bourne-style.

Anyway, it's easy to concentrate on the trade's watershed effect on Boston -- in retrospect, Danny Ainge should have just flown the whole team to Dallas, crammed the players into a limo, had them do the turn around Dealey Plaza and just started shooting at them from the Grassy Knoll.

My apologies to the Celts fans. It was just too funny not to post.
 
Anyone else noticing the Lakers are in danger of dropping to the four spot? If they do, and the seeding prevails, they will have to play SA in the second round without home court. And OKC plays Dallas in the second., great matchup for them. We'll have to pick the playoffs when everything is set, but I might be leaning toward OKC in the West.

I'm taking OKC versus the Heat right now.

I hope it's OKC versus the Magic, but that Heat team looks tough. I do believe the Magic are taking Chicago down.

I don't think so. Magic have no answer for Rose. None. And I know, I know the Bulls have no answer for Howard. But (and this will make your head explode, I know), Rose has been better than Howard this year. And with zone defense being legal, it is easier to take out a low post player than a perimeter player.

Right now, with two games to go (and the ability to change my mind anytime, dammit), I see Chi and OKC in the finals.

I think the young guns will force LAL to play up tempo, something they can't do as well. SA is too old and injured, and Dallas is Dirk and no one else. When Jason Terry is (probably) your second best player, you're in trouble. IF the Thunder can sneak past the Lakers and Mavs for the two-seed (doubtful, but possible), I don't have any doubt they will be in the Finals.

Bos is (unfortunately) a non-factor at this point. Their only hope is surprise someone in the second round, imo. I'm not picking them to get to the conference finals, which will be Chi/Mia. Orl is nice, but has no consistent help for Howard. I admire the moves they made, in that they were willing to roll the dice and swing for the fences, but I don't see it working out for them.
 
Goaldeje.....Orlando just lost to Chicago by one point.

That's without Dwight Howard, Redick or Richardson playing.

Add Dwight and Redick to that roster yesterday, and the Magic win by 15. Chicago doesn't impress me. Noah was dominated inside by a power forward. Dwight will really destroy him.
 
Don't make the mistake of only looking at the last game. But if you want to play that game....

You hit 50% from three yesterday. Your season percentage is something around 36% if memory serves. You really want to bank on that improvement over a 7 games series?

That goes both ways. In the 3 previous games with Dwight playing, Chicago and Rose both hit about half of what they made yesterday. With Dwight out, their %s nearly doubled.

So yeah, take 15 points away from Chicago.....and add Dwight's points to Orlando, and even if the 3% drops, you still have a comfortable win.

Or, you could say that even with Chicago hitting at a ridiculous %, against what was thought of as a weak surrounding cast without Howard and Redick, they won by only 1 point.

Add Dwight, and it's hammer time.

I pray to play Chicago and Boston. Miami is the only team that concerns me.

I think its cute how confident you are in a team with one go to guy. Howard is the ONLY guy that scares me at all. I can see the Bulls employing the "let him get his" strategy with Dwight, and then fouling him at crunch time. Who else is gonna beat you? Arenas? Sure, one third of the time. Maybe. JRich? Ditto. Jameer? Nice player, not sure i want my season riding on his shot. Redick? Same thing. Even if Dwight averages 40 (pretty big if, btw), who else is gonna score at crunch time?

I think you match up better with the Heat than you think, if someone can convince JRich that defense is not anathema to his game. With Noah, the Bulls can pretend to play Howard honestly. Who is going to match up with Howard on the Heat? Bosh? Heh, good luck. Howard? Should have retired when the rest of the Fab Five did. Not seeing anyone else. I thought Eddy Curry would have made that matchup more interesting, but they didn't see it when they worked him out.

I may be wrong, the Bulls may need to learn how to win a little more, but I don't see anyone stopping them. If the Celts can turn on their mojo, maybe. The Celts match up really well with just about anyone, particularly when Rondo's playing like normal, not like someone just shot his dog. But I think the Perkins trade ripped out their heart and killed them. I think the Blls will take it.

Goald, with all due respect, and I mean this sincerely, I respect the Celts. But let's cut through the bs:

The best call of the weekend was Van Gundy, who said, and I quote "The coaches in the NBA have finally caught on with Rondo. He can't shoot. Make him take a shot, and worst case, foul him. He can't make a free throw."

I have been screaming that for two years. And people thought I was crazy. Now, the coaches have woken up, and Rondo is average at his position.

The Magic don't have one guy. They have 8 guys. If Dwight is off, Jameer is on. If Jameer is off, Hedo is on. If Hedo is off, Ryan Anderson is on. If Ryan is off, J Rich or Redick are on.

It really is a sick combination of players.
 
Please. That strategy works for Rondo at the end of the game, but not the first 45 minutes. Unless you have an endless supply of perimeter players. Ray, Pierce and Garnett provide more consistent scoring than Howard and (pick a couple of players). The Magic have the edge at center (by a TON). The Celts have the edge at every other position on the floor.

On paper, the trade should have worked. Perkins is good, but he is not a game changer. But we all know games aren't played on paper. They're played by tiny little men inside my TV, and chemistry counts.

If Bynum is out, that can really hurt the Lakers. Supposed to get an MRI today, we will see what the results are.

Bynum is awesome. The second best big in the league in my opinion. Hopefully it isn't serious.
