2011 Free agent list

I was just reading that Bills HC Chan Gailey has said he wouldn't rule out taking a QB with the #3 pick even though they have Ryan Fitzpatrick-he stated it as kind of a long-term strategy. That might help make QBs a hot commodity considering the number of QB-challenged teams are out there.

Also, somewhat related, the Titans have signed Brett Ratliff to a new contract-undisclosed terms-which looks like Collins may be the "guy" at least for now. I was kinda hoping we might be able to shop McNabb there-maybe with Fat Al as a package deal.

Oh well.

I think that people know that especially if Luck stays in school, we will probably be having a fire sale, and nobody wants to buy stuff at a fire sale until baseline prices are determined. honestly I would be surprised if we got any picks higher than a third for anyone on this roster and that includes Cooley who probably has the most trade value atm.

Im hoping we dont just trade everyone for crap picks but after this season I would not be surprised.

Ryman, in another thread I had ruminated on the possibility of maybe getting the 3rd and 4th round picks back using Hall and Cooley. Now, with Cooley facing arthroscopic knee surgery in the off-season I'm not so sure about even the 3rd. We haven't had, IMHO, anything recently in tradeable talent that we'd be willing to let go of that could garner much of anything higher than a 5th round pick. Given what seems to be an unusually talent-rich FA pool, even though our experience with FAs hasn't been, well, the best one could hope for, it may be a better resource than giving up all that much to get picks. I'm still looking around to see who's being graded out where as far as the draft goes-and what other teams seem to be either needing, or looking for, but I'm still undecided on what I think might be an optimal strategy as far as a draft/FA mix for the team at this point.

Asomugha on one side and D Hall on the other! Sounds good to me.

how much money is he gonna want? I dont want to have a great back seven at the cost of having a great front 7, the front 7 is what wins ballgames. it would be pretty sweet though lol although Asomugha and rogers would be my preference.

While I agree with the need of a good front 7, Nmadi might just be one of those "we better take it while it's available" shots that could be considered an exception-the money question is there but Brucie is a notorious bean-counter (how unlike his dad!), so we might be able to avoid a huge payout. I do like the Asomugha/Rogers combo idea-I'm still leaning toward trading Hall for a pick, I think we might be able to con some team out of a 4th for him. We still need a FS also.

It's not a matter of disliking Hall, it's just that WRs have a harder time creating space and getting open when Carlos is covering. Hall's election to his third Pro-Bowl has his trade value at probably as high as it's going to get -thank you Jay Cutler for that gift-and we need to recover picks for the upcoming draft. It's a tactical decision in the interest of team needs.

Yep, Serv nailed it. Of the three possibilities, I would love to have Carlos and Nnamdi with an extra 3-4th for Hall. Best case scenario, IMO.

I see what you guys are saying and I agree. Will Carlos Rogers be back with the Skins next year?

What do you guys think our #1 need is entering the offseason for next year?

I dont know if Rogers will be back, he may price himself out and then relaise that nobody wants to pay him elite money, or a corner depleted team may pony up. The reason I would want asomugha with rogers is simple, it would force people to throw at carlos, and he might catch some, right now more teams throw at hall and he gets burned almost as often as he makes huge plays. Its no coincidence that his worst year came across from asomugha.

I doubt halls value will ever be as high as it is right now. I like him, but id trade him for the right price.

Our biggest need right now is Front seven on defence with a very close second at WR and Oline. WR because we are likely to lose Moss unless we over pay, Ol because we have no starting calibre interior Olinemen right now our best guys are backup quality at best. on defence, I think we NEED a nostackle or a Stud DE 5tech type and as much as people dont want to hear thism, a superior pass rusher FROM THE OLB SPOT. I like Rak and if used properly He would be an absolute beast, but when miscast, he is merely a solid player instead of a stud player.

No to an older player. We are in rebuild mode.

All FAs that are signed by the Redskins should be 25 or younger - emphasis on younger. If this was a fill-gap for a paloff team that had a realistic shot at a SB, then someone a bit older could fill a need.

Younger, younger, younger.

I know we need to go younger BB, but is there talent at this position available to go younger? None in this FA class is younger than 27. We cannot draft enough help here, so...

Here's the list of DT's that are available: http://walterfootball.com/freeagents2011DT.php

See any you like? Except of course Ngata, he isn't leaving Baltimore. Anyone know enough about the kid in Miami? Is he a Parcells pickup? If so, he is likely quality.

I understand your desire for younger players! I agree 100%, but we need upgrades everywhere and will never be able to fill all the holes with 25 or younger, unless we go with a team that is mostly UDFA.

With all the talk about "the magic" that Shanahan has with QBs is brings me to ask the question, why couldn't he create this magic with McNabb. Donovan went from a borderline Hall of Famer to a QB that doesn't even look like he is a starter in the league.

As far as Free agents, I am all for it I just wish that we would keep them young. No more guys in their early 30's to see what they have left.

Here are some who are age 25. There could be more FAs that are 25 or younger when teams release players. Need to find a gem or two in that group.

Ryan Kalil, C, Panthers. Age: 25

Sidney Rice, WR, Vikings. Age: 25

Brandon Carr (RFA), CB, Chiefs. Age: 25

Those three could fill some real needs. Concentrate on OL in the draft. The Redskins could score the top OT in the draft again and plug him on the right. An excellent OG in rd. should be easy enough to find.

DT may not be a need at all. Anthony Bryant could provide the team with a few very good years. He finished strong.

New addition to the Free Agency list. Here's a name:

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/02/09/report-shaun-rogers-among-browns-cuts/

I know he's older, but would any of you at least sign him to a minimal salary to see what he has as a rotational player?

if we were going to run a 4-3 you sign him and you dont even think about it, at this stage he is a rotation guy but if spelled he would give you some great reps and ina combo with ah would be insane. with them clogging the middle and pushing the pocket you would get career years from rak and carter at end with jarmon spelling them. Ryan is a sad panda right now because so many great 4-3 players are free agents right now.

Would absolutely LOVE a guy like Aubrayo Franklin at NT but if the Niners franchise him again, I would set my sights on Miami's Paul Soliai. He's only 27 and had an impressive 2nd half of the season for the Dolphins. I think he makes an immediate impact.
