Burner's Burning Questions: Free Agency, Mocks, Camps, OTAs, Roster Predictions, 2019

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: Free Agency, Mocks, Camps, OTAs, Roster Predictions,

I just don't like reaching for any of the QB's in this draft at the #15 pick. I have my eyes set on Hockenson.

Many of the successful teams in the league have a super star TE on their team, Ertz, Gronk, Kelce.

Hockenson is not only a great pass catcher, his size and speed give him an unfair advantage over most LB's, and few CB's can handle his size. But he is a grinder, and absolute necessity for AP going into another season here.

I like the idea of going after Jesse James in FA, but I just think Hockenson gives any team such a valuable weapon. I'd rather have him than any WR mentioned in the draft.

Burner's Burning Questions: Free Agency, Mocks, Camps, OTAs, Roster Predictions, 2019

Greetings from BBQ to everyone in BGO land and guests from social media – we hope you become a member here.

Free Agency arrives in less than one month and it will be here in an instant. This is our latest free agency update for the 2019 offseason and it comes after a brief hiatus. It's very early in this process and we really don't know how all of it will unfold.

As we get closer to free agency, things will be somewhat clearer. Will Alex Smith ever return from a brutal injury? What kind of changes will we see to the roster? Can we expect any other changes to the coaching staff? Those are the biggest questions to be answered in the 2019 off-season.

Who will we target in free agency? Who will we re-sign? Who will we not re-sign? Who will get released? Feel free to offer your opinions and predictions.

We take the latest chatter from Redskins Park and media pundits as BBQ tries to formulate what could happen in the coming days, weeks and months.

Free Agents Obtained:

Restricted Free Agents:
Byron Marshall, RB
Maurice Harris, WR
Rob Kelley, RB

Possible Release Candidates:
Alex Smith, QB (PUP?, IR?, Retire?, Returns?)

Re-structure Contract Candidates:
Alex Smith, QB
Jordan Reed, TE
Josh Norman, CB

2019 Dead Money Contracts:
DJ Swearinger ($1.33M)
Orlando Scandrick ($500K)

Off-Season Updates:
The current Redskins cap room stands at $20.6M for 2019. This is prior to the expected cap increase of $12M to $14M from the league. Releases and re-structures will also increase the cap room.

If Josh Norman is released, he would count $3M in dead money for 2019. Cutting him would save $11.5M. Overall savings would be $8.5M.

We know absolutely nothing on Alex Smith, but it's likely he will not return in 2019. Will he be ready for the 2020 season? Is his career over? Will he retire? Will he give the Redskins any cap relief? No one knows, but we'll stay on top of it.

Redskins beat reporter John Keim of ESPN believes the team will not re-sign Preston Smith and Jamison Crowder.

Personal Thoughts:
Players I believe that will not return include Zach Brown, Vernon Davis, Samaje Perine, Stacy McGee, Michael Floyd, Mark Sanchez, Austin Howard, and Luke Bowanko.

I believe it would be a mistake to not re-sign Jamison Crowder. He is a good, reliable receiver and his contract would be very reasonable.

Letting Preston Smith walk is the right thing to do. He will be way too expensive, but Smith should bring the Redskins a third round compensatory pick in the 2020 draft.

Here is a list of players that I would like for the Redskins to consider in free agency. Not all of them can be signed, but these are a few I like.
Teddy Bridgewater, QB, New Orleans
Tevin Coleman, RB, Atlanta
Mark Ingram, RB, New Orleans
Duke Johnson, RB, Cleveland (if released)
Tyrell Williams, WR, Los Angeles Chargers
Robert Nkemdiche, DE, Arizona (if released)
Bud Dupree, OLB, Pittsburgh (likely to be released)
Shane Ray, OLB, Denver
Landon Collins, SS/FS, New York Giants (the big splash and moves to SS permanently) – Likely to be franchised by the Giants

In Conclusion:
The free agency updates are still a bit sparse, but info and reports will continue to increase. We'll have regular updates and post information as it becomes available. A new mock is coming Friday.

Burner's Burning Questions: Free Agency, Mocks, Camps, OTAs, Roster Predictions, 2019
Today, we bring you the latest guest mock of the off-season and it comes from a Redskins fan and pundit – Mark Tyler of Hogs Haven, where is the lead author, editor, and moderator.

Mark - thanks so much for the mock and all of the hard work and thought that went into it!

I'd sort of like to see us re-sign Zach Brown if he's willing to sign a reasonable deal. I'll tell you who I'd like the Skins to move on from - and that's Jordan Reed. Not only is he rarely able to play more than 9 or 10 games, his production, effort, and consistency have really slipped. He may be the most talented pass catcher on this roster, but let's be honest - that's not saying much. I have been disappointed that Jeremy Sprinkle hasn't gotten more game time as I think he has potential and is certainly a better blocker than Reed will ever be.

There does seem to be a lot of buzz about the Redskins and Lock although I'd say there's been even more around Daniel Jones. I have no idea who is the better prospect. As long as the Skins don't buy into the Kyler Murray hype I'll be happy if they draft a talented QB in the first 3 rounds. Two big factors that will benefit us if we do go QB this season (and may be strong arguments to do so) - firstly, this class is not considered 'great' but as we all know, the pundits are often as wrong about QB classes as they are correct. Secondly, there are an unusually low # of teams drafting prior to us that desperately need QBs. Doesn't mean they won't. But this year is sort of an anomaly in that regard, which is a strong argument to take advantage of that rare situation and go QB early.

I like a lot of your picks, at least the positions addressed. We need more big uglies, a talented safety, and a true starter at WR. I'd also hope we draft a LB or two as well.

I just don't like reaching for any of the QB's in this draft at the #15 pick. I have my eyes set on Hockenson.

You can 'reach' at ANY position. Other than what media talking heads are selling, why are you so convinced there won't be a great QB available at pick 15? Hockenson may be the 'reach' in that scenario. I know we all want a big bruising TE who can run block, pick up blitzes, and maybe even catch a pass (and we want him bad) - but you don't have to spend your first pick in the draft to get one. I don't believe in picking TEs that early any more than I do a safety. You pick an every down player in the first round imho and you don't ever deviate from that. Just my opinion.

Hockenson is an every down player. He blocks very well, but he is a pass catcher. He is about the closest thing to Rob Gronkowski as we've seen since Rob Gronkowsi. I watched a couple of his games this year and the kid is dominant.

Well then...let's put the team in Hock!

His TD's will not be ad Hock events!

He won't be a gambrel!

Stop the wining! And have some pork!

Let's hock on the feacles!

He's such a Hockster!

Burner's Burning Questions: Free Agency, Mocks, Camps, OTAs, Roster Predictions, 2019

Greetings from BBQ to everyone in BGO land and guests from social media – we hope you become a member here.

The 2019 NFL draft is creeping closer and closer, but it will be here before you know it. It's still a bit early in the process, but we do have a few ideas about what the team needs in late April. The process of team building never ends and BBQ is about to take a look at what could happen later this spring. The NFL Combine starts on Tuesday and will last until the following Monday. We'll be here to cover it all for you.

Will BBQ match or surpass the success that it had with the 2018 mocks? It will be difficult and very challenging, but it is a task that we embrace. With that kind of success, we truly believe it helps the members of BGO to focus on the players who are prospects that the Redskins are seeking. It feels good to provide everyone here with the kind of service you expect from BBQ.

We will no longer feature two mocks each week. There is no way Alex Smith will play in 2019 and his career is possibly over.

Upcoming Dates:
- Days until the NFL Combine: 4
- Days until the opening of Free Agency: 20
- Days until the NFL Draft: 62
- Days until the 2019 Regular Season Opener: 195

Without any further delays, let's take our latest look at the 2019 draft with this mock.

Round One: T.J. Hockenson, TE, Iowa
The complete and total package at tight end. Great receiver. Excellent blocker. Able to gain major chunks of yardage after a reception. Has the mentality of an offensive lineman when blocking. Also, Hockenson is a superb lead blocker downfield. Long frame allows him to win “jump balls” and provide a reliable red zone target. A true first round talent.

Other Possible Picks:
Cody Ford, G/OT, Oklahoma
Brian Burns, OLB, Florida St.
A.J. Brown, WR, Mississippi
Montez Sweat, Edge/OLB, Mississippi St.
Clelin Ferrell, OLB, Clemson
Daniel Jones, QB, Duke
Jachai Polite, Edge/OLB, Florida
Noah Fant, TE, Iowa
Kyler Murray, QB, Oklahoma

Round Two: Deebo Samuel, WR, South Carolina
As an established offensive weapon, Deebo Samuel started to catch the attention of scouts by his second year for the Gamecocks. Excellent route running skills. Superior moves against the elite cornerbacks of the SEC cemented his legacy at South Carolina in 2018. Samuel has solid speed to go with his elusiveness – he can gain major chunks of yardage after a catch. If he has a step on any defender, Samuel is a sure bet to reach the end zone.

Other Possible Picks:
D.K. Metcalf, WR, Mississippi
Rashan Gary, DE/OLB, Michigan
J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, WR, Stanford
Jaquan Johnson, SS, Miami
Parris Campbell, WR, Ohio St.
Will Grier, QB, West Virginia
Jaylon Ferguson, OLB, Louisiana Tech
Marquise Brown, WR, Oklahoma
Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, SS, Florida
DaMarkus Lodge, WR, Mississippi

Round Three: D'Andre Walker, OLB, Georgia
Walker is a player who runs hot and cold, but should improve at the next level with good coaching. He is a bit of a late bloomer and did not start until his senior season for the Bulldogs, so his upside is tremendous. Redskins coaches should be able to tap into that potential and turn Walker into consistent pass rushing specialist. Good size and speed. Solid contributor in the rushing defense – defends well against blocking fullbacks, running backs, and tight ends. Will need improvement against receivers on slant routes and crossing patterns.

Other Possible Picks:
Riley Ridley, WR, Georgia
Caleb Wilson, TE, UCLA
J.R. Reed, SS, Georgia
Nasir Adderly, FS/SS, Delaware
Jace Sternberger, TE, Texas A&M
Hakeem Butler, WR, Iowa St.
Rock Ya-Sin, CB, Temple
Isaac Nauta, TE, Georgia
Ryan Finley, QB, North Carolina St.
Juan Thornhill, SS, Virginia
Yodny Cajuste, OT, West Virginia
Chris Lindstrom, OG, Boston College
Connor McGovern, OC/OG, Penn St.
David Sills, WR, West Virginia
Michael Deiter, OG, Wisconsin

Round Three (Comp Pick): Brett Rypien, QB, Boise St.
Rypien is probably the most pro-ready player in this draft, but there is still room to grow and learn. Quick release makes him difficult to sack. Solid mechanics. Decent accuracy. Superb pocket passer and solid pocket awareness. Able to go through his progressions quickly, effectively, and cleanly. Good mobility and can extend plays as needed. Hits receivers in stride, thus allowing for extra yards after the catch. Needs to learn how to deal with pressure and should add about ten to fifteen pounds of bulk to his frame.

Round Five: Max Scharping, OT/OG, Northern Illinois
Max Scharping is a good tackle, but he has the skills and traits that will likely move him to the inside at the next level. A bit too stiff to play tackle in the NFL, but he would be much better inside. Good in pass protection. Good in the rushing offense. Would need a year in the league in order to adjust to the next level. Could be a reliable left guard after learning the position. Excellent size. Smart player and quick learner – with such traits, he could be a starter by mid-season.

Other Possible Picks:
Foster Moreau, TE, LSU
Christian Miller, OLB, Alabama
Bryce Love, RB, Stanford
Clayton Thorson, QB, Northwestern
Iman Marshall, CB, Southern California
Dexter Williams, RB, Notre Dame
Khalen Saunders, DT, Western Illinois
Darrell Henderson, RB, Memphis
Carl Granderson, OLB, Wyoming
Tytus Howard, OT, Alabama St.
Austin Bryant, OLB, Clemson
Juwan Johnson, WR, Penn St.
Corbin Kaufusi, DE, Brigham Young
Trace McSorley, QB, Penn St.
Lester Cotton, OG, Alabama

Round Five (Comp Pick): Devine Ozigbo, RB, Nebraska
Ozigbo is certainly not the most accomplished running back in the 2019 draft, but he has skills that definitely will serve him well at the next level. At 6'0”, 235, this Cornhusker is strong and powerful. He will not run away from defenders and is not a downhill threat, but Ozigbo will run through those same defenders and can gain five to eight yards with ease. Good receiver on screens and short passes. Typically takes three or four tacklers to bring him down.

Round Six (Comp Pick): Olamide Zaccheaus, WR, Virginia
How would you like a receiver who has running back skills and combines his talents to look like a Larry Centers and Chris Thompson type of player? Highly underrated. Lack of height will hurt him in the draft (5'8”, 200), but he has the speed and power to be a much more durable player than Thompson. He has been the leading receiver for Virginia over the years.

Other Possible Picks:
Chuma Edoga, OT, Southern Cal
Mecole Harman, WR, Georgia
Diontae Johnson, WR, Toledo
Jonathan Ledbetter, DE, Georgia
Emanuel Hall, WR, Missouri
Garrett Brumfield, OG, Louisiana St.
Kingsley Keke, DE/DT, Texas A&M
Wes Hills, RB, Slippery Rock

Round Seven: Joe Dineen, ILB, Kansas
Joe Dineen is a tackling machine and is superb in both the rushing defense and pass coverage. However, he will need to make his marks on special teams early in his career. He is deceptively quick and rarely makes mistakes. If Dineen can find his niche as a special teamer and as a quality backup as a linebacker, then his career in the NFL could be a lengthy stay.

Other Possible Picks:
Jaylen Smith, WR, Louisville
Ului Lapuaho, OT, BYU
Diontae Johnson, WR, Toledo
Olive Sagapolu, DT, Wisconsin
Nate Herbig, OG, Stanford
Ulysees Gilbert, ILB, Akron
Keelan Doss, WR, California
Daylon Mack, DT, Texas A&M
Eric Dungey, QB, Syracuse
Kendall Blanton, TE, Missouri

In Conclusion
The extra sixth round comp pick that the Redskins had recently was surrendered when Terrelle Pryor was released late in the season by the Jets. The extra seventh rounder that the Redskins were projected to receive will not happen due to the NFL's Rule of 32. As a result, the Redskins will now receive only three comp picks in the 2019 draft (3rd, 5th, 6th). When free agency opens, the changes to the roster will also have an effect on the draft. Mocks in late February look much different than mocks in the spring. For now, we can only speculate based on current team needs and performance to date.

There is your latest mock today. We will have another mock next Friday. The mocks will continue to be posted this winter and early spring, then the volume of mocks will increase as we get closer to the draft.

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: Free Agency, Mocks, Camps, OTAs, Roster Predictions,

NFL just announced comp picks a short time ago and the Redskins have four of them - so this is an even better scenario than what has been widely reported in recent weeks.

Skins now have comp picks in the following rounds: 3,5,6,7.

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: Free Agency, Mocks, Camps, OTAs, Roster Predictions,

Nice forecast BB!!!

btw....you started strong on the QB Stick and he has dropped outta the picture. I liked your initial analysis of the kid. Bring him back!

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: Free Agency, Mocks, Camps, OTAs, Roster Predictions,

With this many picks, BruDan had better strengthen the o-line. If not my disappointment with this FO may actually turn to hate.

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: Free Agency, Mocks, Camps, OTAs, Roster Predictions,

Nice roundup brother. Do you really think Ryp's nephew is that accomplished? I see a lot of parallels with Kellen Moore re: the lower comp level translating to the NFL, but would absolutely love to see the kid on our squad.

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: Free Agency, Mocks, Camps, OTAs, Roster Predictions,

Well, of course I like the latest 1st round choice, but just saw a draft mock yesterday that had Hockenson at #8 pick to the Lions.

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: Free Agency, Mocks, Camps, OTAs, Roster Predictions,

Any extra picks are nice, but the only one I'm excited about is the extra 3rd rounder. Only two additional picks and mostly on day 2 so I am skeptical it makes for a huge difference.

I really love Zaccheaus. Acknowledging up front that I'm a UVa homer, the kid is a flat out 'gamer'. In his last 2 seasons, he caught 178 passes for 1,953 yds (including 15 TDs), plus another 200+ yards rushing. Kid simply is a baller. He's one of the quickest pure HBs I've ever seen, and although he's got smallish hands he catches almost everything that comes his way. I think he could go as high as the 4th round (several teams including the Raiders are reportedly in love with him). But man, if we could snag him with a later round pick, I'd be thrilled.

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: Free Agency, Mocks, Camps, OTAs, Roster Predictions,

I see Zaccheaus as a healthier and stronger Chris Thompson. Trying not to be a homer either, but it is hard to ignore the impact he may have. The team made a mistake by not drafting Brian Westbrook in the third round back in 2002 - they had serious interest. We saw what happened there. I have no idea right now if they have interest in Olamide, but they should.

The combine starts tomorrow and it will answer some additional questions. Team pro days start next month and we should have a lot of answers by early April.

I think Olamide is one of those true hidden gems. Virginia rarely has skill position players highly coveted in an NFL draft (and probably for good reason as a mid-tier NCAA football program. But I think this guy could be had as a steal, and as you know BB, he is an absolute baller.

I don't believe Olamide got a combine invite (which honestly, given his stats the past two seasons, is a serious slap in the face). Historically, the chances of getting drafted as a non-combine participant are very low. But some team paying attention like the Raiders or the Patriots will draft him. I don't believe he'll be available as an UDFA. If he's there in the 7th I would hope we'd snatch him with a 7th. Between him and last year's Mr. Irrelevant we would really have some scary 3rd down options. I'm not a big believer that Chris Thompson's best is in front of him.

Re: Burner's Burning Questions: Free Agency, Mocks, Camps, OTAs, Roster Predictions,

I think he's the kind of player that argues for the draft to go back to extended rounds. It is inexplicable to me that the NFL spends so much focus on rules changes and marketing, and so little attention to major issues like the ever-increasing number of players being injured and the reliance on scrubs during the last quarter of every season. Why on Earth they have neither expanded roster size (or even expanded allowable practice squad spots) is inexplicable to me.

Best change the NFL could make - expand active roster limit to 60-65 players, double the size of the Practice Squad, and go to a 10-12 round draft. The fact that guys with the talent level of a Zaccheus are at risk of going undrafted is evidence there is a lot of talent still out there after round 7.

Burner's Burning Questions: Free Agency, Mocks, Camps, OTAs, Roster Predictions, 2019

Greetings from BBQ to everyone in BGO land and guests from social media – we hope you become a member here.

Today, we bring you the latest guest mock of the off-season and it comes from a Redskins fan and pundit – Matt Valdovinos of Riggo's Rag and Blue Chip Scout, where he is a contributor and analyst. As a former offensive lineman, he provides detailed insights on the Redskins and is an expert on the trenches. For the second week in a row, our guest comes from the Keystone State.

I contacted Matt early last week and he was more than happy to provide the latest guest mock. After reading his mock last night, I was very impressed with the picks and the scouting reports. Matt knows the game of football like the back of his hands and we're grateful that he has shared some of his vast knowledge with us today.

BBQ will continue the guest mocks each week until early April and we will feature a Redskins fan/mock specialist. It became a popular feature last year and we are happy to bring it back to BGO.

In this mock from Matt, he looks across the college football landscape for several prospects that could help the Redskins become a better team. I enjoyed looking at his mock and I hope you will enjoy it as well.

Be sure to follow him on twitter at:
https://twitter.com/MVScouting
You can find Riggo's Rag at:
https://riggosrag.com/
You can find Blue Chip Scouting at:
https://www.bluechipscouting.com/

Without any further delays, let's take a look at Matt's mock.

Matt's Seven Round Mock:

Hello Redskins fans! I'd first like to thank Ken and everyone at BGO for inviting me to be a part of the Redskins Guest Mock series. For this mock, I'll be addressing the team needs as they are right now. That means guys like Preston Smith and HaHa Clinton-Dix are not set to be on the roster for the 2019 season. Therefore I will be drafting as if they are not a part of the team.

These selections are based on my own personal big board combined with where I believe the NFL values these players. If you have any questions, comments, or anything concerning this mock draft, the Redskins, and anything else please follow me on twitter @MVScouting and tweet at me! I always love the interaction.

Without further adieu, let's get into the mock!

Round 1: Brian Burns, Edge, Florida St.
Brian Burns is one of my favorite players in the class, and according to my board, he shouldn't be available. Burns is my second highest ranked edge rusher and the fourth overall player on my board. He possesses a rare level of bend that is not only the best in the class, but the best in the last few classes. He's a technician when rushing the passer and uses a variety of pass rush moves to get after the Quarterback. The biggest questions with Burns' game is his weight, many believe he will struggle against the run in the NFL due to his light frame. However, with his natural quickness and great length, I'm not too worried. I firmly believe he'll make the most impact of any rookie pass rusher in their first year. Burns fit well with the Redskins because he and the rest of the defensive front do a good job complimenting each other's strength and weaknesses. Burns uses elite bend and first step quickness to get the quarterback, while opposite of him Ryan Kerrigan will be using power and effort. Burns is viewed as someone who will struggle vs the run, well Jon Allen, Da'Ron Payne, and Matt Ioannidis do a good job of dominating the trenches for him. Burns is my dream scenario for 15, and the closer we get to the draft the more and more likely I see this becoming. In his first season with the Redskins, I expect no less than 10 sacks in his rookie season.

Round 2: Taylor Rapp, Safety, Washington
After the drama of DJ Swearinger, the Redskins find themselves once again looking for a safety. While I believe they'll be in play for Landon Collins, I don't expect the Giants to let him get to free agency. Rapp is a do it all kind of safety who has no real elite traits, but does just about everything extremely well. Rapp can fit anywhere in the secondary. He can play in a dime linebacker role and cover tight ends and running backs, he can play some nickel corner, and he can even play some single or double high safety. The Redskins need an influx of talent in the backend of the secondary. I think cornerback could stand to be upgraded, but I don't think it's great value where they'll be picking. I think the safety value in the top of round two is the best for the position. I think a couple of solid prospects could be waiting for the Redskins to select them. Rapp may be a best case scenario for the Redskins in round two.

Round 3: Erik McCoy, iOL, Texas A&M
The Redskins need to address the left guard position, it's has handicapped the team for years and it's time to finally give some substance to the title “Hogs 2.0” If the Redskins want to succeed next year it will be on winning the trenches and playing good defense. Derrius Guice and Adrian Peterson need to carry the offense on the ground and if the Redskins want to make the postseason they'll need to boast the best possible offensive line for them. McCoy is an old school mauler. Excellent run blocking strength that he uses to move people game in and game out. McCoy is the perfect player to plug and play at left guard and playing next to Trent Williams could really benefit him as he learns to play at the next level.

Round 3: Jalen Hurd, WR, Baylor
Jalen Hurd is a player you'll see climbing boards for a while. At one point was considered one of the best running back prospects in the country, Hurd has had his up and downs throughout his collegiate career. All the choices he's made has led him to Baylor, playing wide receiver. Hurd is an excellent athlete whom I believe will light up the combine. I expect excellent testing all around for Hurd, so the third round might even be too late. Hurd is still learning to play wideout, but once he puts it all together I think he can be a dominant Z-receiver in the NFL. The Redskins need to add some talent to the receiving corps, and a high upside player like Hurd is the best way to go about it in the middle rounds.

Round 5: Donald Parham, TE, Stetson
Parham hails from the school of Stetson located in DeLand, Florida. So if any of you have heard of or been to DeLand, congratulations. Parham is a small school player we've seen rise up boards for a little over a month now. Holding his own at the Senior Bowl was a great way to prove he wasn't just dominant against his level of competition, he's just a dominant player. Parham stands at 6'8 and weighs in at about 240 pounds. He has long arms and does a great job attacking the middle of the field. He's also a threat in the red zone because 50/50 balls to a 6'8 tight end feels a little better than 50/50. The Redskins could use some help at the tight end position, it's a quiet weakness that I don't think needs to be addressed early, but a high upside player like Parham could be what the Redskins need. I like what Jeremy Sprinkle brings to the table, and I think those can be a solid foundation at the position for a number of years.

Round 5: Jarrett Stidham, QB, Auburn
I'm not sure what the Redskins plan is at quarterback, I'm very against the idea of signing a veteran, however, I'd rather wait to draft a franchise guy until 2020 or even 2021. Jarrett Stidham could prove a nice little stop gap. If he shows a lot in training camp and preseason, maybe you groom him to be the franchise QB. Stidham has all the tools to be an excellent NFL quarterback. NFL size, arm strength, mobility. I had Stidham as my QB1 going into the season, his potential never went away. I believe he can be a good quarterback at the next level.

Round 6: Gary Johnson, LB, Texas
Johnson is an athletic project linebacker that has NFL starter upside. He shows flashes of his processing ability and explosion. He played a big part not the Longhorns Red River Rivalry win over Kyler Murray and the Sooners.

Round 6: Jaylen Smith, WR, Louisville
Smith brings value as a future X-receiver. He consistent performed at Louisville. Lacked a solid QB in his final season but projects well in the NFL.

Round 7: Bryan Peavy, CB, Iowa St.
Peavy was an excellent cover guy for the Cyclones. I believe he can be an excellent slot corner in the future. A future with the Redskins cornerback as Dunbar and Moreau on the outside and Peavy in the slot is a future I'd like to live in.

Round 7: Calvin Anderson, OT, Texas
Anderson is a good combination of size and athleticism. He can develop well under Bill Callahan and the Redskins desperately need offensive tackle depth.

BBQ's Thoughts:

Thanks to Matt for all of his research and a superb look at free agency and what the Redskins could do in the draft. He put a lot of thought and work to this mock – thank you, Matt. Feel free to comment on any aspect of what he mocked to the Redskins.

BBQ will have another mock draft on Friday and Combine updates over the next week.

I agree, unless they are blown away by Jones.
I hear more chatter about the idea of drafting Devin White. I like that too.
I am going to watch some video of the Auburn QB.
