Re: Burner's Burning Questions: Free Agency, Mocks, Camps, OTAs, Roster Predictions,
Sorry Boone...but I don't see drafting a QB as an absolute necessity this year. The only way that argument makes sense to me is if one believes that we are an injury away from an upper tier team. And I don't buy that. I think there are gaps all over this roster. We have a strong draft that restocks the o-line and uses that first round pick on a diference maker who will be around for 10+ years - that alone, speculatively thinking, could get us to 8-8/9-7 territory even with the rental QBs we have now or may sign in FA. Yes, the problem with my thought is that it ups the cost of moving up to draft a QB next season.
The only way I see QB this year is some special insight about a diamond in the rough who could develop into a championship QB. Draft this guy in the third round. I'ld like to see the team build a play-off roster while drafting the proverbial difference maker in the first round - preferably a defensive player but El/BB have me comfortable with the Iowa TE. Complete what McLovin started with the o-line through a combo of FA and draft. Just get real talent on the team that performs come gametime.
I don't believe in this year's class of QBs. It'll be five more years of mediocrity exacerbated by lower talent levels overall - you know, what has basically been the story-line ever since the Dan took over.
