What's for Dinner?

Yes. It’s better than a crockpot. It almost works like a steamer. Some of the best pot roasts I’ve ever had were done on a Romertopf.

All the talk about the clay pots has been very interesting. I had not heard of any of the ones you have mentioned and has been informative about their usage. Thank you guys!

I broke a rule as a crab lover from Maryland. I purchased 6 large pre-steamed crabs at the grocery store for 1/3 of the price at the crab stand. I've tried this once before and they tasted like crabs that have been sitting in the fridge for a week. But I rolled the dice and damned if they weren't 90% as good as any crabs I have ever had. 2 minutes in the microwave, steaming made them soggy last time, was the trick. Put with a piece of grilled chicken and an ear of silver queen and I had myself a time. I may try them again, they must have been made more recently than the last time.

"broke a rule?" In MD, that's warrants a felony charge 😁

I remember Maryland's state troopers back in the 70's and driving through Maryland to get to Ocean City was no picnic. That was back when you heard of them giving out speeding tickets for going 5 mph over the speed limit. Thank God for cruise control so I could keep it under.

Man that drive used to be so much worse. Traffic lights on Kent Island, had to go right through Salesbury before the bypass. And yes the police were everywhere.

I used to order a bushel of crabs from a company called Maryland Blue Crab Express for our beach week family vacation. The first time I ordered them 'live' and had them shipped. Bad call as at least a 1/4 or more arrived dead. The company actually recommends buying them already steamed. They actually ship great that way and I don't think you could tell once they were warmed up that they weren't freshly steamed. Definitely the way to go if you are having them shipped for a special event.

An update to my quest for a clay pot.

I ordered an authentic Romertopf yesterday for $170 w/free shipping from Amazon Germany. They almost tricked me into buying their Americanized one for $90. Their German authentic one is made of clay and is only oven safe. The Americanized one is ceramic and can go in the oven, microwave, and dishwasher. I have a link below to both.

Here's the kicker though. This morning their authentic one from Amazon Germany is selling for $49 today but you pay for shipping which is another $47 so a total of $100 with tax. I signed up for their prime TV free for 30 days which includes free shipping from Amazon, but I still had to pay the $47 shipping because Germany Amazon doesn't always qualify for the prime free shipping. I decided to not buy another one since this is Germany Amazon and I don't want any troubles if they won't accept my return from the first one. If I hadn't bought the first one, I would have just paid the shipping and gotten the whole thing for $100. If anyone can figure out the free shipping for the German one, let me know and I might go through the return process myself for $49 only.

Here is the one I bought - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007KK1MKA?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

Here is their Americanized one - https://www.amazon.com/Romertopf-Ro...1-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&th=1

FYI that Amazon let me cancel my order for $170 so I could reorder the authentic clay pot for $100 including shipping.

In other words, you can order an original Romertopf clay pot fron Germany for $100 total if you use that first link I posted.

I will be excited to hear your report back on how you like it. I ordered one to replace the one we broke years ago. I love doing roasts with vegetables in a Romertopf.

I heard it's really hard to get good pot that is grown in clay

Cheesy bacon pizza with Alfredo sauce.

Ranch dressing is the downfall of society.

I used to think it was honey mustard, but I was wrong.

I don’t really get the ranch dressing thing. Every once in awhile, I will sprinkle a little of the powdered version on veggies and air fry them but that’s about it. I prefer blue cheese dressing on wings.

Bleu is da bomb.

Apparently the tourists here for the World Cup are going nuts after trying Ranch for the very first time.
They went back to their countries and were like, "How dare you keep this Ranch secret from us ? Now...how can we have it shipped here ?"
It was so out of control, that the TSA was literally putting out bulletins warning passengers that (specifically) all Ranch dressing must be in checked bags
They were buyin it in large containers like half-gallon maybe more, and some even drinkin it like a smoothie
:D

Tough salad dressing crowd.

It's ranch for a simple lettuce salad. Quick, squeeze, done.

It's blue cheese for a great salad.

Excuse me for being simple, you salad police. 😝 At least I left off the pineapple this time.
