I think Morris takes a defensive consultant/Asst HC type position or something with the Rams, if we don’t make the obvious mistake of hiring him. He needs to cocoon up and rebuild his reputation for a few years, like he did last time. I really hope it’s not him, for us. Would love to see him go to Dallas. Yeah, Schotty Jr. could use an assistant with some fire in his gut, Jerry
 
Yeah, you can’t whiff on Whitt and then hire another guy without playcalling experience. Quinn needs a veteran, he needs this to work to keep his job. He’s not getting a 3rd DC unless one does so well that he gets hired away lol
 
Whitt is going to be fired any minute now....annnnnny minute...don't worry, so soon.....

You would go with a second assistant who hasn’t called plays before? Don’t get me wrong I think Harris has a better rep/higher expectations than Whitt in a vacuum…but you just never know. Can Quinn really risk that? Lot of experienced guys on the market who can elevate a defense, seems risky to go with a rookie playcaller again
 
I like him a Ulbrich over some of the others. I have been a big fan of Schwartz for a long time. I don't really want some of the other options being suggested and I like them all over Raheem. I have a bad feeling we go Raheem

I don’t want Raheem either. I just want someone good, with a proven track record, who knows what they’re doing and doesn’t have a history of wasting or misusing the talent they have.
 
As some have suggested, we probably lost Mike Macdonald (our presumed first choice at the time he signed with Seattle) because of our overly deliberate group process. If they are going to move on from Joe Whitt Jr. - why haven't they already let him go. NFL hiring is a highly competitive business. Hours and days matter. We have seen Peters style is closer to molasses than greased lightning. Obviously if a target is on a team still playing, maybe that would make the situation less urgent.

But I am concerned with the speed at which we seem to move with big decisions, especially given that it has been presumed Whitt Jr. has been dead man walking for over a month now.

By holding on to Whitt it also holds him back from being available for other teams to interview for any position

Again, I worry DQ being a nice guy is having a difficult time to can him and maybe wants to keep him on a a DB coach or something. He should really be gone
 
It's been one day fellas. I know you got the torches and pitchforks out and are blasting "If you want blood" by AC/DC....but dang.
 
I don't expect an immediate hire, but why would you not immediately announce Joe Whitt Jr. has been let go - unless you plan on keeping him where he is :)

Just watched the Quinn/Peters presser. There are a ton of changes coming.

Frankly, I think we've seen what happens when we put our eggs in a basket too.

There is a lot of data to suggest they really wanted Ben Johson (overall with the crazy group dynamics they had; not saying AP wasn't in charge but I would still say there is enough there to say it was not an ideal scenario), and were kind of holding the door open for him. I think it really, significantly burned them (potentially!). We don't know the details but the way those 2-3 days played out altered the course of this franchise for possibly 5 years, arguably 10-20 years (depending on how long Macdonald lasts, and actually the literal thing would be "would have lasted" here).

Those 2 days were triggered off by Ben Johnson saying he didn't want to leave Detroit, as the Comms group was going there. *THEN* they offer Macdonald, but they had interviewed him the previous day. Well, Seattle offered him THAT day (same day as their interview), and yes it was a lucrative offer. In ONE of Macdonald's quotes (I can't find the source but I read it and pocketed it away in my memory because it was so significant, I like doing that), he specifically referenced the "timing" of Seattle's offer being better than others. I don't remember it verbatim and don't want to misrepresent, but he mentioned something about the timing. Only later I found out how those days unfolded, and I think he may have not been super happy being the obvious second fiddle. He's a smart guy. He wanted the respect. I can appreciate that as I share that trait (the second one, I appreciate being respected!).

The next day after that, they hire DQ. It was widely reported later that DQ was literally waiting by the phone for days (not whole days but spending quite a bit of time waiting by the phone). It doesn't give one the feeling of a hot commodity. No offense to him, just the plain analysis of how things unfolded there.

I think there is a possibility where DQ keeps Whitt to become the defacto secondary coach and then brings in a new playcalling DC. I know a bunch of you want to see blood but Whitt was good in that role for GB and Dallas. He just got promoted into a role he didn't have the chops for.
