What's for Dinner?

Somehow she manages to put up with me and my absolute distaste for those awful smelling and tasting vegetables. YUCK.

(This is about the only food I really and truly detest. But man, I REALLY hate them.)

I’m going to put this here because I don’t know where else to put it.

My favorite Chinese restaurant, China Wok in Tyson’s, closed its doors and the owners retired. :( I’ve been going there for my Chinese food fox since 2010.

I’m looking for a new place. What’s most important to me are the dumplings and the pancakes which come with either Peking Duck or moo shoo pork.

I like Chinese style friend dumpling, which are bigger, thicker and more substantial than the gyoza style Japanese dumplings.

And a trend at Chinese restaurants is they are buying pre-maid, flimsy flour tortillas and they suck.

So, any recommendations for really good Chinese places in the northern Va area?

I know a few great places in New York but that would be a hell of an Uber Eats charge! :)

Yeah, that's not gong to work.

I went to a little hole in the wall play in Chinatown in SF which was unbelievable years ago. If I had to get on a plane/train/automobile, I'd go there. If I could remember where "there" was.
 
Dinner - Toasted sourdough from HT, smoked dark meat chicken from me, perfectly ripe avocado, perfectly ripe local tomato, Hellman's, salt, pepper. Note - you gotta place the chicken between the avocado and tomato or the sandwich will be slippery.

For dessert, warm peach pie from scratch with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

My favorite Chinese restaurant is China King in Sterling close to the Home Depot. They had another location in Herndon over by Elden and the toll rd but they closed that one years ago. This is more of a carry out restaurant since their decor is not much. The food is fresh, and they excel in sauces IMO. This place is so busy that in the 5 minutes it takes them to prepare my order, at least 5 more people have come in and picked up their orders.

Out in Ashburn, we're stuck with Chin Chin's and Hong Kong (Ashburn Farm subdivision). Neither have been good since COVID.

The best sit in Chinese restaurant used to be Chen's over by the Regal threaters on Rt. 7 in Sterling. They had a full bar and knew how to make a good mai tai. Their General Tso's Chicken was the best, but they aren't there anymore either.

Peking Gourmet Inn in Leesburg.
The food is fantastic and the duck in insanely good.
 
Does anyone have a good lemon rice recipe they can share?

I'm making my butter chicken for Diwali this year and would like to pair it with a good lemon rice. I have yet to find a good lemon rice recipe online.

I've never heard of this but keep us posted if you find something good. There's a recipe for a great coconut rice that I have which is from the Caribbean but that's not what you are looking for.

Lemongrass, lemon zest and juice, chicken stock and mint and/or cilantro? IDK???

Whaddaya mean you don't know??? We count on you for these things! :ROFLMAO:

I hate cilantro like VOR hates peppers...to me it smells like dirty feet, tastes worse on it's own...in salsa or the like, fine.
Personally, I'd go with all dat but with a dash of paprika ... let's color our dishes, people! (yeah, "bartender me" took over tonight) ;)
 
There is a gene involved in how folks experience the taste of cilantro. I love it. But some have a genetic difference that makes cilantro taste like soap. One of nature's little oddities. You either like it or it's awful.

I don't hate it, but I don't care for it in most ways. Tastes like soap to me..
