I marinated on this post for a bit. I think for the most part you are probably right. At this point, it's going to be tough for me to see him the same way though. If he knew I doubt he would care, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels that way.
Those of us taking this position, I don't really feel like we are being too hard on him here. These guys are paid millions of dollars to play this game. Yes, they take a beating, it wears on them physically and mentally. They have to stay in tip top condition at all times to survive. However, most people struggle from one check to the next just to stay above water everyday. I cannot feel bad for a millionaire who lives far better than 95% of the world's population, who feels "disrespected" because his employer ONLY plans to pay him more millions to play Football, and then refuses to do his job until he gets what he wants.
Let any of you reading this who are not self-employed try the same thing Terry is doing and see what happens.

Couldn't imagine someone like Josh Harris, incredibly successful businessman, hiring anyone who was a soft negotiator. Infact I think he would hire the opposite.

If guaranteed money is what matters, then guarentee this year at 28, next year at 28, and then 14 of the year after that. That would give him 70m guaranteed. A number that dwarfs Metcalf. He can lift his head high and the club can get a salary they can live with.

I wonder how many people here remember when Art Monk left the Redskins, and how that unfolded? The Redskins were starting, I think, with new coach Norv Turner at the time. Art Monk was weirdly not re-signed to a contract, like basically just let him walk but in a way where he was just kind of told they didn't want him. That is from his side at least; they gave him a deadline to sign for 600k, after having made over 1m in the past. I think he was 34 or older at the time, not sure.
Anyway, the team tried to make it sound a bit better, but the rub was they wanted him to sign for 600k from their side (I think they didn't talk about the deadline and the lack of respect).
I think in the end, he ended up signing with the Jets for 600k, if I recall correctly.
So there were some team guys who kind of made it sound like they were right and he was being stubborn, but there was, it seemed, a respect factor completely missed in all of this. I also remember some fans kind of buying what the team was saying a lot, and not really getting angry at Monk, but more like really frustrated and disappointed.
I bring all of this up because I see some similarities in this and TM. Personally, if TM leaves while asking for above market, I will be disappointed that we could not keep him, but at the same time, satisfied (I hope) that we were respectful and we just couldn't come to an agreement. That's totally fine, and I will respect both sides in that occasion.
With Monk, at the time, I felt that was more or less the case; as I read and understood more about how Monk and his agent felt in negotiations, I started to think maybe the team's story wasn't as credible. I don't think that will be the case with AP. However, I will not end up blaming TM all that much if he wants to get paid and thinks he has to move on. I don't like players of this sport because they are savvy businessmen, I like them because of how they handle the oblong ball.

If we were to force him to play out this year then franchise him for two, it would end up being the same money, so i dont know if it's the worst idea.

the original post said to guarantee $28M THIS year, so that means new money in 2025, also increasing the cap number, so $56M over the next 2. Adding the $14M in 2027 putting it at $70, but also greatly reducing the cap hit in his 32 season may not be the worst thing.
I think the biggest concern with Terry isn't 2025, or even 2026. It's paying him north of $30M when he's in his 32 and 33 year season because it's so much of an unknown. Paying Terry $14M in his 32 year old season may be worth paying him $56M over the two previous seasons.

Yeah I'm pretty sure that nobody is franchise tagging a 32 year old WR.
Plan for tomorrow... we need to go number one with wide receiver this year in the draft, maybe number two. I'm not a draft guy so I don't know what the future looks like draft-wise.
It is very well documented that very few WRs play well beyond 32. Even Art Monk
