NICE! I want to like wine. I really do. I just don't. I have the 80th anniversary bottle. Every once in a while you can get "custom" labels from Heaven Hill. I would always get "Hail to the Redskins!" on them. Non FB Fran got me a Maker's Redskins bottle years ago...

They even have a good selection of liquor at the Coast Guard PX in Chesapeake, VA.
 
I used to buy my cigs at the small package store at Fort Monroe. I wonder if that is still there. Probably not even a base there anymore but I remember 2 dollar cartons of cigs from there for my grandmother around 1992-1993 while I was going to Radar school in Norfolk.

When we first moved to Ashburn, 30 years ago, the big bar out here was Old Dominion Brew Pub. They offered growlers that you could keep. I think it was something like $5 to refill them too which was awesome since everyone in our block had them. They sold sleeves to keep them cold too, so everyone brought them to our block parties.

My all-time favorite beer is a hoppy ale (Tuppers' Hop Pocket) that I can't find anymore. Old Dominion Brew Pub made it and you could find it in the grocery stores until the brew pub sold out to Anheuser-Busch in 2007 and shut down the pub. Anheuser continued making their Dominion Ale and a few other but they did not continue the Tuppers'. :mad:

A few years ago I found some in Montgomery County but that was the last time I tried to find some. Too much work even though the beer was awesome. A bitter hoppy swallow that was to die for.

IPA's aren't even close to this taste since they are too fruity for me.

My son has been living with us here in Tennessee for a while.

I ran out of beer and don't feel like going to the store just to get some in this weather so I'm going to have to pay him back for his high school years.

I've been pretty good at the whole "not buying whiskey" thing, but I'm inVa Beach visiting family and hit a couple ABC stores on the way down. In my own defense, the rye, Rare Breed, and OESK are restocks. The VOB 100 is one of my favorite cheap bourbons, ($16.99), but they never seem to have it around the Baltimore Metro area. The Dickel 8 year? Just because!

Haven't found a great selection of bourbon over here in the Philippines without it being majority overpriced.

The one thing they do have is liter bottles of johnny walker black for about 18 dollars a bottle so I have invested in a few of those already.

The one single malt scotch I tried was over 40 dollars and not very good at all. Glenlivet, next time I will leave it for sure.

I do still have a Glenmorangie and a bottle of Eagle Rare to get out. There are a lot of people drinking so I keep a stash so we don't have to just drink beer all the time.

I made a batch of bourbon slush a week or so ago....we may be getting into that this weekend!

In a nutshell....it's sugar, a very strong cup of tea, frozen limeade & OJ concentrate, bourbon and water. Mix it all up, freeze it, scrape some into a glass along with some bruised mint, and top off with ginger ale or 7-Up. When I'm feeling froggy, I'll stick a bourbon filled straw into the glass.....

Do they still serve pints at or near room temp over there as they supposedly traditionally have, or was it ice cold American style? That looks good!
