It's been a long time since I had some scotch. I don't have room in the kitchen so my stash of scotch and other unopened bottles have spent a long time in the garage in a cabinet.

I'm glad that I've been drinking whiskey at room temperature since I started last summer because this stuff actually tastes even better after being taken out of an 85 degree garage lol.

These are probably the best 6 bottles of scotch that I have.

They all taste so different too. I like them all. That Lagg bottle is something else. I imagine that they love that stuff in Scotland. I got the bottle in Belgium. In over a year have just had a few tastes of it. Same with the Loch Lomond. It's less peat than the Lagg but somewhat similar to the GlenDronach. The Orchard House has a lot of fruit flavors and the Green Johnny Walker is also pretty decent but if you think that is strong you gotta try the Lagg. Probably impossible to find in the US though but worth it if you ever go to Europe. That Glenmorangie is the best of several that I've tried from them.

The good thing about buying bottles in Europe is that they have cask strength and not that 40-46% lightweight stuff. You lose 50ml but get 10% more alcohol.

You know that cask strength and higher ABV scotch is pretty easy to find Stateside. I have a few bottles, all Islay single malts.
That said, I actually prefer scotch in the 40-46% range. Scotch drinks too hot at higher proof, (for my taste buds anyway), so I always add a small splash so the burn doesn't overwhelm . Full disclosure: I'm an Islay whiskey whore. Those heavier peated scotches may drink hotter. I'm with you on the higher proof for bourbon...
Oh..I  hate those 700cl bottles. It ain't much, but it pisses me off. Some US distilleries are starting to pull that shit too.
 
Last night I had two drams of Lagavulin 16. Not really a summer drink for me but I was craving it for some reason lol.
 
I'm pretty sure that none of my Scotch is Islay so I probably haven't even tried any. I have all these Highland bottles because I liked the Glenmorangie, 1 speyside, and since the JW is a blend who knows what it is, same with the orchard house. The Lagg is from the lowlands, but it is described as similar to peaty Islay. I probably don't have anything like you are describing.

Those 2, the Lagg and the Loch Lomond aren't hot tasting at all. The one thing about the Lagg is it has almost a mild sore throat spray or bandaids taste to it if you know what I mean. The Loch Lomond is pretty smooth seems like a 46. It seems to have less flavor than the GlenDronach though.

I haven't really looked for high % scotch here in the US but over there it seems like most of it is. Here it's probably more expensive. All my bottles are 45-70 bucks. The 2 I got in Belgium were about 75-80 each.
 
The Glenmorangie 14 Quinta Ruban is one of my favorites. I initially had the 12 year version and was smitten. I do think the extra 2 years improved what was already an outstanding Scotch. I haven’t had a bad Glenmorangie. I do typically favor the Highlands. The Balvenie 14 year Caribbean Cask is another fav. Talisker 10 is another.

As for the Islays, Lagavulin…Ardbeg, I have to be in the mood. Last night I was in the mood, lol.
 
The most expensive unopened Scotch bottles I have in the house right now are The Balvenie 21 year old and Talisker 18. I paid about 300 each. I’m saving them for the right event. I have a lot of bottles in the 100 to 150 range. I also bought a bottle of Jack Daniel’s Sinatra Select. Probably paid more for that than I should have, but I hear it is by a country mile the best Jack.

For non-Scotch Metallica’s Whisky Blackened is definitely worth a try. Blended American finished in Black Brandy casks. Far better than it had any right to be.

When I’m craving Bourbon one of my favorites is Woodford Double Oaked. Excellent flavor. Also, here in the County we have a local distillery called Tobacco Barn Distillery. Founded by a retired Navy Admiral. Their bourbon is very good, and their cinnamon Whisky “Moll Dyer” is the best of that style I’ve had.

Makes sense.. I only have nine bottles of scotch and, with the exception of an Oban 14 year, they're all Islay single malts. A few bottles of Lagavulin, Ardbeg, one Port Askaig 18 yr and an insanely peated bottle of Octomore. Most of it is in the $90.00 - $110.00 range. The outliers are the Ardbegh Traigh Bhan 19 year ~ $300.00 , The Port Askaig 18 year ~ $300.00 & the Octomore 14.2 ~ $250.00 These were all purchased in MD. I don't drink, or buy, scotch very often and it's usually in the colder months.
 
Another Scotch I HIGHLY recommend is the McCallan 12 year Sherry Cask. (Not the double cask). Black packaging. This one is finished in Sherry Casks for all 12 years of aging…it’s fantastic. Usually runs between 125 and 150 in price. Worth every dollar.

If you like the Woodford Double Oaked, I can highly recommend Sagamore Rye Double Oaked. I'm not a huge fan of overly oaked whiskey, (I find it a little cloyingly sweet), but the Sagamore is very good.

If you like Balvenie, you would love this one. I shared it with my Dad, not too long before he passed. It's, hands-down, one of the best whiskey's that I've ever tasted....

🤤 I have no doubt, and the memory you created with that bottle is definitely special. My tentative plan is to open the 21 when I retire in a few years.

I also forgot to mention I have a bottle of Glenmorangie Signet. Another pretty expensive one that I was saving. I think it’s time to pop that one. When I do I will share what I think of it. Apparently Glenmorangie cease all other operations at the distillery to focus only on Signet once a year.

It is special and that's a great plan! Go for it.....you can't take it with you! I have a bottle of 24 year old pre-fire Heaven Hill whiskey that I'm going to crack when I retire in a couple years...
 
I tried this Barrel 33 year again. It's strong. I'm not sure that I can drink much of this.

It did represent the Redskins for me but we didn't win the SB

I drink it straight lol. It's too much though. Not sure how else to drink it.
 
Lol, I have that one box, that's cool that I'm not not the only one who likes the Glenmorangie beverages.
