OK I hate to go with the hipster Chris Simms on some picks. But I think am closer to him with his off beat takes on Shemar Stewart and M. Starks. In short, I agree with him that Starks is solid but not spectacular and the idea of him dropping to the 2nd seems justified.
He's higher on Stewart than some. I am too after watching him. Worse case, you got a high floor run stopper who hustles. Yeah he's raw as a pass rusher where he basically bull rushes often. But he's genuinely disruptive right now in spite of that. He's sort of like Montez Sweat before his breakout season where he was close to getting sacks but didn't close.
But in short he's a handful to deal with it. He gets double teamed a lot. And this on a D line with Scourton and S. Turner. Yet the focus is often on stopping him. I posted two clips below where he's doubled team yet they still had the RB chip him, so basically three guys on him.
Does he fulfill his potential? I don't know. But you can see the twitchiness when watching him. For example, JT Tuimoloau is another really good run stopper. And is a better pass rusher than Stewart but watching JT he's mostly a dude who hustles for sacks and I like that but not that twitchy.
If you think about who they've interviewed. Most are high floor run stoppers aside from Ezeriuaku. JT, Oladejo, Scourton, Landon Jackson all of that ilk. But if we are swinging for upside in this group, this one to me is the clear upside play with little downside. Like I said at worst he ends up a great run stopper who brings pressure but doesn't close. Scourton has some pass rushing moves, not that twitchy but is consistent. I watched more Oladejo. I think he's similar to JT in that his sacks come from motor-hustle and is really good against the run. I do think 61 is decent value for him. I wouldn't take him earlier.
Landon Jackson plays with his hair on fire. And clearly judging by his combine he's a good athlete but plays a bit upright and doesn't look bendy. But still good player. Bringing this to playing the Eagles, Landon among these guys might be my favorite as far chasing RBs down the field. The Eagles like freaks on the D line. If Stewart drops to them, I have a hard time seeing them passing on him.
In short, I've watched many of these CBs this weekend. The edges excite me more early. Maybe with the exception of Hairston.
