Shot out of a cannon quick, SIP. Tweener but if we were to move back from the first and he's there at pick #61, he'd be a good get! If we moved back and had an earlier pick, I'd be all over Ben Morrison from ND with our first second round pick and then be happy if AP nabbed Stewart. A bit early possibly for Morrison but he's my favorite CB in the draft.

I haven't watched him in a bit but another dude who plays in that Skattebo style is Monangai who also plays violently. Isn't the threat in the passing game that Skattebo is. But he's a great pass protector. I'd guess 6th round give or take.

With all the big dudes they have on the D line now, I think a pass rush specialist, tweener or not like a Josaiah Stewart or David Walker i think bring some needed juice to this D line.

The biggest knock on him was speed. People were worried he was gonna run in the 4.8s. If he can run in the 4.5s, even if it's higher 4.5s, I think that erases the biggest issue with him. He just runs SO angry, which is SO important for an RB, that's part of what's hurt BRob is he just looked less tough in his runs down the stretch. That and Skattebo is a major receiving threat too. I've talked myself into being happy with him in the 2nd.

Skattebo has had to prove himself time and time again and I'd expect him to succeed at the NFL level too. Yes, he's definitely got a chip on his shoulder and runs angry. He's got great hands too and his balance is superb. I was born and raised in Fairfax, VA. Moved in 1996 to Wild, Wonderful, WV due to my job.

No doubt. I'm all about Donovan Ezeiruaku if we take an EDGE in the 1st and there isn't much difference in size between Stewart and Ezeiruaku.
 
Watched a little of Thornton. Sick RAS-size and deep ball stats. The two games I watched, he was rotated in and out of the lineup. Not that much of a diverse route tree. But on crossers, comebacks, go routes, he's dangerous. And from what i saw he was a good run blocker, too.

With the character issues Pearce and Green have, I have doubts Ezeiruaku will be there for us to take unfortunately.

It's possible, MM. I, for one am hoping we trade down not only in the 1st but also in the 2nd. AP can build a roster but he needs draft choices to do it. He hit on some good one last year and the more picks he has the better chances of him hitting on them again.

Yeah it's really a shame. It wasn't that long ago these off field concerns were unknown and most of us would have run to hand the card in if Pearce or Green reached 29. I hope they don't end up in the NFCE after being selected in the mid 2nd round

That's exactly how I feel unless somehow a "game wrecker" falls to us. At 29 that feels unlikely, but if a game wrecker at edge, running back, wide receiver, or maybe corner somehow landed i our laps you have to roll the dice and take the player. What's strange is I could imagine a top player on our board slipping without being good enough to meet that "game wrecker" definition. In which case, rather than getting the very good, potentially core player I'd still favor a trade down.
 
Yeah, the consensus seems to be that the true difference makers dry up around pick 10–15 and that from there down to about 50 or so the talent level is pretty similar. A trade down to pick up another pick in that range would absolutely be ideal, but definitely not something we can count on. Problem is too many other teams are looking at the same thing. The other teams around us are also thinking trade down. And there is not going to be that must have player to incentivize teams to move up. If we manage to work out a trade, it’s not going to be a great value most likely.
Pierce or Green falling due to perceived character issues sounds interesting to me. Since everybody’s trying to mimic Philadelphia, maybe we should gamble on one of them. Certainly worked out well for them with Jalen Carter. There are no sure things are 29 anyway, and if one of those guys were to work out, the reward is immense.
 
I think SilentThreat talked about this HTTR. There is probably a lot of validity in your first point, that there is not a huge difference between picking at pick 16 vs. pick 50...

But there will be guys in that range who DO prove to be difference makers, because the talent evaluators missed on them, or because they have other traits other than combine measureables that result in them being stars. The question in every draft is, who ARE those players and which GM can find them and position themselves to draft them? And in that context, draft position absolutely matters. It's the same argument folks have about not needing to move up to the top 3 picks to find a franchise QB. Sure, teams have found franchise QBs much later, but that doesn't alter the fact that the earlier you draft, the better your chances at the guy you believe will be a future star.

I'm all about trading down for more picks, because I have a lot of faith in the current regime's ability to find the hidden gem. But trading down is always a risk and could result in guys you were sold on no longer being available with later picks.

Ehhh I'm not so sure. I've got 30 guys I would comfortably say are "worth" a 1st rounder, and then another 6ish I could talk myself into, but then I do think there's a drop off to the next tier, at least a little bit.

Like with edge I've got (not necessarily in order):
Carter
S. Stewart
M. William
M. Green
D. Ezeiruaku
J. Pearce Jr.

After that you've got guys like Nic Scourton, Josaiah Stewart, Landon Jackson, and Princely, who are really good players and well worth a 2nd, but I think there is a bit of a drop off.

Same with like OT, after the top 4, you hit Conerly, who probably will be a good NFL player, but there's a major difference between the top 4 of Campbell/Banks Jr/Membou/Simmons and Conerly. Across all the positions I just can't scrounge up another 15 guys who I would put with that top 30/36 without some major reservations.

Now sure, if the trade down package is baller, you do it. Since we don't need a QB, and I'm skeptical of taking an interior DL player at 29, it's very possible that no one at a position of need with a 1st round grade is left. And if that happens then you can pop down into the late 40s and get a similar tier player you'd have gotten at 37-38. And indeed if we don't have a legit 1st round talent left at a needed position at 29 it will have to mean that either a QB or interior DL fell and we may have a dance partner somewhere in the early 2nd. While I hate them, I wouldn't hate fleecing the Giants so they can take Sanders or Dart at the bottom of the first and we add like their 3rd + 2026 4th to our pick pile.

1) someone from his high school saying he has anger issues; and

2) stemming from his arrest in 2023 about driving 63 in a 35 and having a suspended license and no insurance card.

Now, for me, I do not give a singular crap about #2. I'm a criminal defense attorney and #2 is like, a normal every day occurrence. If I had a dollar for every person I represent with a security clearance who got charges similar (or worse!) than #2, I'd get like $200 a year.

#1 is more concerning bc what I desperately do not want is him to get here and then suddenly there's a domestic violence accusation against him. But you're also talking about a kid who would have been somewhere between 14 and 17 years old when he was playing in highschool, who got pulled over at age 19, and who won't turn 22 until this fall. There's a lot of character growth he could have done.

This is where our beefed up scouting department will be hugely important. Has he grown as a person or is he a legit problem. Our FO should be able to find out.

The Edge/OLB/Tweener/Hybrid group is always a royal pain to try and sort out for myself. As a pure pass rusher, I'd put Stewart ahead of Green and Pierce personally and agree he is easily worthy 2nd round capital. Stewart is just all around excellent in an off-ball role too.
