A Historical Look at the Origins of Extremeskins

Not really, but every so often I'll read one of their articles. I see them all the time on Bluesky
I've been over there for some time now. They have two daily posts with a good sampling of commentaries/news articles/"tweets" about the team. There's good information there. And, no, I'm not pushing for everyone to go there, just saying it's a good source of information.

It’s not really a fan forum. Good site but they are article focused not discussion focused.

There are a good number of regulars there who post in the comments consistently. I can see, though, that the vibe here is different. It seems many/most here are more mature and measured in their responses and not looking to "start fires". There does seem to be a comradery here that isn't present there.

It’s all good. Different strokes for different folks and all. A lot of fans have several watering holes they visit which is cool. We pride ourselves on ‘community’ and being able to debate and even argue and still walk away friends. That’s not everyone’s cup of tea though, lol…

I left it 3 years ago, I was tired of the constant attacks that started after I posted stuff in the political form on the board. Before I had said anything there I was never threatened by mods and never commented on doing anything wrong. After one political post ( didn't support anyone for office but was not what most there agreed with ) I was constantly attacked in game day threads by moderators . So I left

Speaking of community, something really cool just happened on another board. And it relates to ES and this site too. So - here comes another story. Ready?

There are plenty of people on ES I got to know in real life due to our tailgating. One particular guy is on this site too. His handle is skinsfan1311.

I actually met him the first time on ES - I would complain about the owner and he'd defend the owner and we'd have heated arguments while keeping it a cordial discussion.

Then we met in real life on Redskins Rd because he was always early just like me. He'd tailgate with Pez & Huly. I'd tailgate up on the ring road. But very early like at dawn we'd do our pre-tailgate tailgate at the orange cones on Redskins Rd. every game for at least ten years. Maybe closer to fifteen. And his wife Fran was there too. And my wife sometimes too. And he'd call her non-FB Fran. And so I'd call my wife non-FB Anne. Because neither of them do FB. So we'd get there at dawn and hug each other because, you know, that's what Redskins fans do. Pez would put on RATM loud at 7 AM. Ever drink Vodka Grapefruit at 7 AM? For two hours? And the lots haven't even opened yet? Loads of fun.

Eventually, I quit posting on ES. I just got burnt out. Then I quit going to games. I just didn't have the energy any more. It was weird watching home games on TV.

So then much later on FB we realized our fathers were stationed in Norfolk around the same time in the 60s. I think the same base - Little Creek Naval Station.

But when I heard ES shut down last fall, I PMed skinsfan1311 on FB to find out WTF was going on and he told me the team had unplugged it but it was back up. For now.

So that's why I went to ES and copied that ES History thread OP, which is now this thread OP. I also copied the Redskins Cowboys Rivalry OP quotes, which I will post here eventually.

I put both those pastes on my hard drive here at home and there they sat until a couple weeks ago.

Then I decided I needed to post this somewhere in case I drop dead, so I posted it on another C-word site. Then I was looking at some of the comments in that thread on the other C-word site and one of them was from an original staff of ES. I PMed him because I thought it might be DH but it was Tarhog. He suggested I join BGO.

I had already joined BGO 15 years earlier, but got culled because I never posted. My bad. I had actually forgotten about it - it had been so long.

So a couple days later I rejoined BGO. But Chris had already copied and pasted my post on that site and created this thread.

So ...

Then Boone and I were in PMs maybe two weeks ago and he told me about a Weber board which was pretty good. Or maybe he said it in the Gastropub subforum - What's For Dinner? Anyway, so I said yeah, I was actually already a member of that Weber board, for about two years, but didn't post much. I might post once a day or less than that. I don't even check it every day, but I do most days.

I don't know anybody on that site. Not in real life. Not even electronically. Not buddies with anybody.

I was on the Weber site today talking about coffee with this random guy. Because I'm a coffee nerd, among other things. So he mentions he drinks Mayorga coffee, which is a coincidence because so do I. It's my weekday coffee. They roast it nearby in Rockville. So I ask him where's he from. He could have been from anywhere. I know people in Seattle who drink Mayorga. But he says he's near BWI. And there's one or two other people in this thread too chatting about coffee. So he's talking to this other guy in the thread - this conversation is over a period of days - and then he says "Fran doesn't drink coffee."

Fran? Then I knew. It was skinsfan1311! Hahahahahhaha

What are the odds, man? One in a million? No, way less than that. One in a billion?

So - that kind of blows me away. It's a small electronic world we live in.

Carry on.

Very cool story. My life is full of crazy little insane coincidences like that. I'm married as a result of one of them. It's a crazy long story I won't burden you all with :)

I knew, almost immediately that it was you on the Weber board.
I kinda/sorta thought that you would figure out it was me after I dropped the "F-bomb" during our coffee geek discourse 😆
She has never had a cup of coffee in her life.

Check this out...our youngest sons girlfriend is friends with your aforementioned daughter on FB. It is, indeed, a small world...

Hahaha - that doesn't surprise me, DLSF has a thousand friends like I said in a previous post. She actually joined this site. Has only made one post AFAIK.

I'm not as sharp as you - to me, you were just some random guy - I should have picked up that you were you when you mentioned BWI airport. Pretty hilarious.

Yeah...it is pretty funny. On another note, before we completely derail the thread. "Assault on the Liberty" has been making the rounds with some of my friends and everyone has enjoyed it. Of note, is one of my Jewish buddies read it and was both fascinated and saddened by your Dad's story. I'll get it back to you one day.,...

After all this time, I thought that the identity of Deep Throat would have been revealed. Does only Art know and has been sworn to secrecy? Karl Swanson is still my bet.

Karl Swanson was Andyman.

All of the main ES staff at the time knew. He was the guy driving the teams acquisition of the site and Art was the primary staff driver of it all.

I’ll give him a lot of credit - he never told anyone at ES what to do or what should be posted.

I mean at some point the statute of limitation has to expire.

I’m not aware of anyone other than Swanson who was talking to ES staff at that time. And I think I would have been.

I think it’s naive to think that team officials aren’t reading fan forums and hell, registering as members. If it were me, why not jump in with fellow fans to get a sense of things?

Jumbo probably banned some of them on ES. Might explain some things, right?

ES? I heard there were legends on that board
All the legends of ES have been reincarnated on BGO

Okay I got another story, since the Statute of Limitations has expired, apparently. :D A bit of a behind-the-curtain story. Nothing earth-shattering.

I think we all enjoyed Andyman. He had this really cool avatar of a cigar smoking old guy. Hard to describe but it was fun. He would occassionally post stuff - stuff that nobody knew. Not the press, not the Redskins insiders. Nobody. And then, a day or two later, what he said would come true! How cool is that? Being on ES was like having our own private inside source, even more inside then some of the highly regarded media! Pretty awesome.

Meanwhile...

I had created a thread called Everything You Wanted To Know About FedExField. It was a long OP, constantly edited and improved with photos and details of FedExField. All sorts of inside stuff that you couldn't find anywhere else. Details such as where you could sit to be under cover, what row is the row you get rain hitting your knees but not your head, what row was the back row, what seats would have a railing in front of them with irritating foot traffic, what particular seat would drip rain on your head because there was a leak somewhere in the upper deck, etc. It was a pretty popular thread.

This was back in my fairly early days on ES, before I was a mod.

So at some point, there was a member who joined who admitted he worked in the ticket office. But he was also a fan and enjoyed the forum. Fine.

Then a bit later, there were a couple guys who began bullying me on the forum. Fairly new members. And this went on for a while. Then after a while they began accusing me of being a ticket scalper or having a ticket business. After all, how else did I know so much about the stadium? And why? Truth is, I probably knew more than anybody working for the team because I was passionate. You can't beat passion. Passion always wins.

Fact is, I was buying great seats for myself every week, at great prices. Yeah I had season tix, but I had sold them so that I wouldn't have to sit in them. Why should I sit in the front row of the upper deck when I could sit in what were basically Touchdown Club seats? I could get much better seats on a weekly basis on the aftermarket. This was partly because the team was not good, and partly because the stadium, at 90,000 seats, was way too big to market a losing or mediocre team. And partly because, regarding buying, I had a timing method down which worked great.

So then the guy starts PMing with my daughter DLSF, harassing her somewhat but also prodding about what her dad did for a living. Meanwhile, I'm in PMs with TK, kind of complaining about this guy. Not too loudly, but just saying something is weird with him. Why is he so upset? All I'm doing is providing helpful info for members. Didn't make any sense. Why is he attacking me? Why is he harassing my daughter?

So then TK PMed the guy re my daughter and basically told him to knock it off. He sent me a copy of the PM. Stop harassing the young girl. She was in her teens back then.

Meanwhile, DLSF kind of made friends with the guy, and she found out his FB account which showed his real name. She of course relayed this to me. So that was good info. Now I got his name.

But he didn't stop harassing me.

Then it occurred to me, the guy probably has two accounts, which isn't allowed, as I recall. It was against the ES forum rules to have two accounts. He is likely the ticket office guy mentioned earlier, but he's also masquerading as the bully on another account. But I had no proof.

Then I started studying his posts, and he had this weird habit of finishing paragraphs by punching out seven periods. Like this.......

Not all the time, but some times. And when he did it, it was always seven periods.

Exactly seven. Never six, never eight.

And both members, the ticket office guy and the bully, would do this. Seven periods. In my mind, this was proof that it was the same guy.

I pointed this out to both TK and Jumbo, and they didn't disagree. But apparently, they didn't consider it solid proof.

Finally, one day, the bully guy bitched me out in some thread but used my real life name, my last name. And also the real life last name of my friend who was my ally and who was a stadium expert (I mentioned him in another thread here a few days ago re a Nixon photo). It was obvious he had figured out our season ticket seats, accessed the Redskins season ticket database, and learned my last name, and also the other guy's last name. And posted both names in the same thread on ES!

And so, again, I PMed TK and said WTF??? This shit has to stop. This moron is using his position at the ticket office to look up the info on me and my friend and then posting it on the Redskins owned public forum??? Are you kidding me? That info is confidential! What would the press do with this? How about the WP, who hates Snyder? I bet they'd love to print this. What can we do to make this stop??? Enough is enough.

It stopped pretty quick! TK PMed Art. Art talked to Swanson. Swanson talked to the manager in the ticket office. And the manager in the ticket office chewed the guy out big time, and told him he was on the verge of being fired and to stop with the shenanigans.

And shazaam. It stopped that very day! TK PMed me like an hour later and told me the guy was getting chewed out. Boom.

Apparently, he was not fired, which kind of surprised me. But I never heard from the dude again. Haha.

I PMed Andyman and just said "Thanks for the help."

He didn't respond, of course.

Karl Swanson helped me out during the "obstructed view" debacle when we were relocated to a pair of seats directly behind a support pillar in section 214, though I get the sense it was somewhat grudgingly.

I think it helped that Non FB Fran got him on the phone and made an impassioned plea on my behalf. A pair of unobstructed seats magically appeared during their conversation.

Haha

I was on ES posting about the scam going on with the obstructed seats. It was a pretty lively thread.

I even wrote a song about it - well lyrics at least. You might remember. I believe you were in the thread. Sing to CCR's Born on the Bayou.

When I was just a little boy
I sat upon my Daddy's knee
My Papa said "Son, don't let the Dan get you
And do what he done to me
'Cause he'll get you
'Cause he'll get ya now, now"

Well, I can remember the Fifth of July
Runnin' up through FedEx Way

I can still hear them
Big lips flappin'
"Hey You'll see the goal posts just fine"
But it was a goddamn lie

Sold me a baaaad view
Cost me thirteen ninety two
Sold me a baaaaad view.

Lord, lord

During the posts in the thread, I referred to the ticket office people as "Snyder and his henchmen." I got the word from the old 1960s Batman series. I think it was Penguin who had henchmen? Or Catwoman? Both? A little later, the WP printed that Karl Swanson described himself as one of Snyder's henchmen.

Coincidence? I think not. :p
