Official Game Thread - Playoffs Week 2 - Commanders @ Lions

Glenn made the opposite decison that Del Rio or Blatche made. With a depleted secondary, he decided to die by the sword vs. the paper cut. It's a complement to Daniels really. After all, Glenn knew that if he rushed four and played coverage, he'd never stop Daniels. As it was, he never really did... although the five turnovers were also a huge part of this win. Our D couldn't stop their O except by interception.

What a game by Mike! Doubled his interception season for the season. The one guy I don't remember playing a big role was Lattimore. I don't know if that's good (he wasn't targeted) or bad, he's still rusty, hobbling out there.
 
The OL even without Cosmi played admirably! Opening up the run game by running backs was a giant key to the game. Allowed us to control that clock in the second half.

Our defensive front was able to randomly get penetration and be disruptive. That was great after Gibbs and Monty were gashing us.

I am glad Ben Johnson edges away from running the ball some

Once again, JD5 is our Superman!
 
Another week before our coaches can be hired away from us. Here's hoping some of the spots fill up rather than wait for our coordinators...though I still wish them well. I just hope it is here:cool:

Yeah, I thought the O Line was great tonight. If the Lions weren’t outnumbering the O Line, they didn’t get much pressure. Early in the game, it seemed like Daniels had more time to throw than any game this year. Glenn must have seen that and that’s while he dialed up the blitzes so much. It didn’t matter since Daniels was able escape time and time again. But more importantly, he beat the blitz and ultimately destroyed that defense.

I really think Kingsbury wants to stay. He's been a head coach. He's making head coach money anyway. He knows the value of being happy. He knows how important it is to be in the right situation. The teams looking for a head coach almost all of them are organizationally challenged. There's a reason the Jets and Raiders have been so bad for so long.

Oh yeah, Glenn started sending at least one on virtually every play. Mr. Smooth was able to maneuver through them each time. Kliff had him rolling a lot an minimally they would end out in 2 yard gains and out of bounds so he avoided some hits.

On the other side it was nice seeing Whitt sending pressure. We didn't get to see that a lot over the past few years

True and a strip sack and at least one punt, but you know what I meant.

Our D had a rough game. They should have. Detroit is damn good, but it was clear this was going to be a shootout and the team who fired last was going to walk out a winner... and it played out that way except the turnovers gave us a little breathing room.
 
I don’t think the D had a rough game. I thought the D did what it needed to to do. Make enough plays to win. The Lions are the best offensive team in the league. They rarely get shutdown. The key is taking advantage of their mistakes. This defense did that. They did not miss any chance they got.
 
It's been rare for our D to get a bunch of turnovers and strip sack. Full shout out to our guys but Goff and BJ were terrible.

Interesting to see Quinn hugging and holding onto BRob mid game after a nice play. Clearly he'd been going through a rough time likely confidence shattered from his fumbles and being too hard on himself. Shoutout to myself for predicting Quinn to stick to his guy and betting the over on his rush yards. In my mind we needed to run the ball to win and after hearing Kliff say Quinn tells him to run knew it would happen. CRod inactive was a tell.

This is inevitable when you're good and it's a great problem to have. Next man up applies to coaches and FO also so hopefully we're prepared.

Apologies to all from my time at ES banging my head on the wall wondering why this team NEVER embraced hurry up. Heck losing by 3 TDs with 6 minutes left they were still dragging their feet and the announcers sounding off on it. My therapy required me to bitch and moan copy paste about it on ES over and over. I know I cannot be alone wondering how all our coaches refused to use it despite the top teams doing it the most, were dominating the most. The craze even kind of came and went and it was still no where to to found in these parts. I remember Shanahan would use it a few times a year and we'd always do well and then it was instantly shelved.

Our muddle huddle sucked the air right out of those arrogant fans lungs who quickly realized its useless to keep screaming when your team is getting rapidly marched down the field on. I feel vindicated. Our offense has been dictating to defenses ALL season and its been glorious to watch.

Dan Campbell was nearly crying in his postgame interview too.
 
We ran for 182 yards yesterday. I love those quiet monster running games where its not one long run skewing the numbers although Ekeler did have a 35 yarder. The Lions ran for 202 and clearly IMHO should have run Gibbs more and not put the game squarely on Goff's shoulders knowing he came into the game winless vs a Quinn defense.

Were they saving Gibbs for the Super Bowl? Afraid to give him too many carries because he's not a big back? I don't think our defense adjusted to him. We just saw BJ self destruct force fed Monty (more a goal line specialist IMO with Gibbs) ultimately got impatient vs Whitt's D (prevent of sorts?) and had Goff force the ball down their field.

You forced 4 turnovers as well or it was 5 actually.
 
Terry McLaurin talked about Dyami's growth in post-game. Said he has been talking to him, working with him all season long and that Dyami has grown up this year and is doing what it takes to be successful now. If he keeps improving and playing like this, we may be looking for a 3rd WR not a 2nd in the offseason. He looks like a different player in the playoffs.
 
On the inevitable coaches leaving point, I think of it like the employees whom I supervise. You have a choice when it comes to training. You can A) train them up giving them the skills to leave you or B) have employees who contribute little to the success of the projects, and they never leave because they cant. It is better to train them and get their production while they are with you.

I figure it is the same with the coaches With the added benefit of being a place where coaches want to Come to improve themselves for future jobs. This is as opposed to all the jobs w the organization being thought of as dead end jobs.
