2024 Roster Updates

The Vikings got Cam Robinson for a #5 pick to start at LT from the Jaguars.

Teams all over the league that are having playoff seasons and have some injuries or holes are aggressively going out and addressing them.

I hope we hear more than silence from Ashburn before the trade deadline.

We have to play the Eagles and Cowboys twice over the final 9 games, it would be nice to factor in another corner who can cover down the field or a pass rusher that can move these quarterbacks off their mark.

No need to just sit there and pat ourselves on the back for being competitive when we weren't expected to be.

Let's turn up the volume on the season since it appears Daniels is up to the job.
 
If they stand pat it’s likely because they are unwilling to pay the price for someone they might be interested in - not because they are patting themselves on the back.

As far as turning up the volume, I don’t disagree. I think at 6-2, even contending for the NFC title (and the unmentionable that goes with that) is not a ridiculous prospect. But the assumption is that there are guys out there that we can get for a reasonable price and who fit the player profile this Front Office has set who will help us not just this season but in the seasons ahead. There may be - but the devil is in the details.

The latter part of this is the most pertinent bit.

It's pretty clear that Peters and Quinn had a specific vision for the type of player they wanted on this team. They very meticulously cut bait on players that didn't fit their profile, and the results have been tremendous. I know that winning cures a lot of ills, but it's pretty clear the team chemistry this season is off the charts, and I think that has a lot to do with how successful this team has been thus far. We definitely lack blue chip talent across the board, but having a group of good level talent play as a TEAM is lifting this team to another level where raw talent says it probably shouldn't totally be. We're seeing teams across the league with better pieces perform way worse because they're dysfunctional.

Washington, for once in a long long time, are NOT dysfunctional.

If we're going to trade for a piece to help us out, the talent level needs to be better, but also the fit has to be right. I think the last thing we want is to throw in a Blue Chip spanner into a finely tuned chemistry machine.

Terry is the perfect example of the type of player we need in terms of character (and I think Jayden is cut from a similar cloth) in that he's a very talented player who puts team first in most respects. He's played hard for us since he got here and never really complained at all despite the crappy situations he's been in.

I suspect if we're going to see any trades it's not going to be huge swings for the fences, no big names. It'll be for complimentary pieces to shore up weak areas with players who will mesh into out culture and still leave us cap flexibility and draft capital available for next year. Our Front Office seems too smart to do anything detrimental. In Peters I Trust!
 
I don’t want to see any ‘big trades’ in terms of Day 1 or Day 2 picks or long-term salary.

I am thinking we can find a veteran on the last year of his deal for a swap of medium to late picks and who can help us in 2024.

If the Vikings gave up a #5 for a LT and the Jets a #3 for Adams my thought process goes towards the idea there are some decent guys out there at perhaps reasonable cost for what we need.

And because unlike the Jets or Vikings, Washington is not in panic mode we are dealing from a position of strength.

If a club wants too much we simply walk away.
 
Something I heard on rhe Finlay pod, since Rodriguez has been brought up 3 times from the practice squad, they can’t send him down without cutting him and having him clear waivers.

I don’t know if this is true, but if it is, that makes the decision to cut him more interesting…

I heard that, too. With BRob having previously missed due to a knee and now a hammy…I think he stays up. He can also plays teams.

I have to think he’s on the 53 at least until after the Eagles game with BRob being gimpy. After the mini-bye, we’ll see.

But to keep him up I think they might have to make a corresponding roster move to IR somebody or cut somebody.

Unless they had an open spot on the 53, which I don’t know….

I believe he took Jamin Davis’ spot.

Wouldn’t shock me if they try to get him back on the PS, but I think there’s some risk there considering he’s the team’s only back in Robinson’s mold, he’s young and cheap, he’s produced when called upon, and he’s good in pass pro.
 
I believe it was Jordan Magee that filled Jamin Davis’ spot.
 
Good call Chris, I got that all sorts of wrong. I thought you could only elevate a guy twice, then sign him as the 3rd call up from the PS. And then ESPN’s transaction page lead me further astray - doesn’t even mention Magee.

With Lattimore I am assuming Mike goes back to the slot - where he shines?
 
I would bet on that. I think St. Juste is a career backup personally but he will be better as the #2 guy at a bare minimum.

Yeah, Sainristill might play outside in 2 CB sets and then bump inside in 3 CB sets with St. Juste coming in for 3 CB sets.

This probably means they can be less creative with their safeties also.

Getting a good CB is just such a huge deal. It opens up the entire defensive to not have to cover for a HUGE weakness.
 
St. Juste makes no plays. He’s always near the ball in coverage but never defenses the pass reception and often misses the tackle after the reception.

Such a shame there wasn’t ONE guy in that room that could elevate under new staff.

The underlying talent was just that poor.

Forbes? I knew on draft night you don’t take a 166 pound cornerback at #16.

The pick was hinkie from the start.

Meanwhile Christian Gonzalez was chosen one pick later.

YES!! It means instead of 2 deep safeties we can keep one of them (Chinn mostly) up to help in run support. Could have a huge ripple effect and Chinn could really be huge!!
