2024 - Way too early draft thread

This draft is deep at tackle, as deep as any draft in the past 10 years. Projections are there may be as many as 6-7 tackles taken in the first round and starting caliber players well into Round 2.

I think we should use the draft to build this line and go out and find YOUNGER veterans to fill depth spots.

Releasing Leno at 33 and Gates is an indication Washington is not impressed with many of the offensive line players here and I would doubt many of the holdovers are going to be kept.
 
Leno and Thomas were getting long in the tooth.

Gates is not an NFL center.

Wonder how Martin Mayhew explained the Gates signing to Peters and Quinn.

I love the decisiveness and the youth movement that's coming. It's a rebuild folks - don't believe otherwise. And rebuilding is good, not sure how it ever became a dirty word...
 
It is indeed a rebuild. We may not win 4 games this year.

I'm oddly okay with that.
 
I have higher hopes. Not playoffs, but not 45-15 losses on national TV.

What folks have to realize is that the veterans we are releasing are older and in some cases like Gates not NFL standard players.

On that basis, talented rookies with skill can come in and produce BETTER results at these positions.

So, I don't necessarily see this as a team destined to win 3 or 4 games again next year.

I think there is a good chance this team can get to 7 wins and double the total from 2023 with a younger, more competitive roster that goes 100% each week, without the kinds of letdowns Rivera's teams were famous for.
 
Addition by subtraction can be a real thing.

You just have to believe that rebuilding our OL is going to be a huge focus in free agency and the draft... I mean, it's literally got to be given what we had and that we are releasing guys already...

I think most of us when looking at last year’s line play thought we needed four new starters which sounds so outrageous that figured we had to keep Leno.

I like that the coaches and GM don’t want to settle, but I do wish our most suspect guy wasn’t the o line coach. If we’re going to field a line of rookies then you wasn’t a Joe Bugel type o line whisperer
 
Johnson wasn’t in charge of personnel.

Perhaps he was trying to make lemonade out of lemons in NY.

If you look at a guy like Gates who was there originally you can see how marginal the talent mix was.

That's perfect. After all, if we do want to trade down then we want a king's ransom. We don't want any team thinking they can get that pick for cheap.
 
He will be the first pick by chicago, the bears will trade their current QB who will lead his new team to the Super Bowl and Williams will be out of the league in 3 years due to his ability to handle the mental part of the game - including the DLine players for other teams verbally abusing him about his GQ photo spread ....
 
Chicago can't trade the pick.

The GM is in a corner, he HAS to draft Caleb Williams and buy himself 2-3 years forward to make that work for the team and himself.

If he trades the pick and goes with Justin Fields and Fields falls flat on his face Poles will be on the first train out of Chicago come January 2025.
