Time for a Cool Change

I actually prefer the orange gold version - because the logo itself is pretty dark save the letter borders. We are darkening it more with the more burgundy stripes. The orange/gold kind of makes it pop a little and it is the team version of gold and also meshes with the gold letter outlines. IE the alternative meshes with the site but not the logo itself. I would like to hear which one the rest of you prefer.

And while we have plenty of detail freaks here (raises hand guiltily) attention to details is one of the things that has made this a great site…
 
I know some of you are thinking it, so I'll go ahead and put it out there now. Since we can, and are, going to tweak the burgundy color bars on the site, we ALSO have the option to go ahead and use the "proper team colours," as Brother Knight has pointed out, as an option now. :)

It would look, again via just a quick mockup, something like this:

I prefer the Est. to read top to bottom as well, Mark. This just feels...weird...to me.

I think I prefer the team's official colors but I can live either way.

Clearly we have a possible winner here--from everybody's comments to date the concept and execution are just about sold. I think we'll let this marinate for over the weekend still, since not all of us regulars on the site have probably had a chance to see/process this yet. If there end up being no new ideas/thoughts that change the math, we'll end up going forward with what we have. I talked to Boone and it is not too hard to change the burgundy divider bars on the site, so I'm thinking we'll actually match them to the burgundy Knight came up with ... because it's sweet.

I recognize that this version doesn't have the "period" in the Est. 2009 and the final version will. Two quick questions for the hive mind on that part ...

1) my eye wants to see the EST. 2009 inverted, i.e., to read from the top down, rather from the bottom up like in the above. Seems to better "close out" the image (if that makes sense) and feels more natural to me. Yay or nay?

2) for this mockup I grabbed the gold we use on the site (Post Thread button & the football graphics left of the forum divider bars). To my eye the existing color looks orange. If that's just me I'll shut up already about it--seriously. Maybe even do some of that embossing magic on that part too?

I personally agree on having EST. 2009 going top down. It gives it more of a natural feel of your eyes moving left to write as you read something on a page (if that makes any sense). Just my opinion. Regardless, I am super happy however the final version tweaks turn out.

I agree on the gold Boone referenced.

I like the team burgundy and think it should carry through the site.

So here is the EST.2009 made the same colour as the inside of the O on the right. I picked out that gold. It also had the embossing. It's hard to make out on the pale colour, but you can see the subtle ridges. I actually really like it. Whether you'll see it when the logo shrinks down I don't know.

And then I tried (Just for S&Gs) to put a glow effect about the stars...

I'm not sure if that makes it start looking like it's the Washington Comrades?
 
By the way... I can colour this logo any colour I like. So if we want different versions of it, we can easily do it. The BGO, the stripes, the stars and the EST are all different layers. (I think there's 15 layers in total to make up the image) and I can colour them all separately.

Any colour combo you wish, I can produce.
 
Roger that! Gonna try out the one with the Soviet stars on a mockup. lol

By the way, I'm on board with changing the EST. 2009 back to the proper team gold colour ... I'm guessing at some point we'll end up changing all the gold buttons/fields to that anyway. I do like the bevelling on it!
 
Alright, the photographer in me is being anal-retentive.

The highlights on the stars and the highlights on the letters are coming from 2 different directions as though there are 2 different light sources but neither light source hits both elements. I think a single direction might be better but that might just be me. Thoughts?

Personally, I think the glow-stars are a little much ... first instinct is I prefer them without.

EDIT: Or at least not with the full glow effect ... maybe a subtler "glow" or outline would work? Just spitballin' now.
 
No glow. I prefer the original EST color (did you guys know that?) otherwise, I have no more input. And the people did rejoice.

I dub this our BGO Site Insignia. And that White Alternate is almost as attractive as the white jersey is :)
 
Thanks Knight for putting up with all of our requests. Imagine Mark and I doing this obsessive back and forth for a month and that's what it was like the previous logo exercises :oops:
