Coronavirus - COVID19

Editted to reflect current state information.

New York text is a link to NY Covid stats. Originally posted link worked when I tested it.

You will note that the lower half of the linked page itself has links to histograms with data for each state, DC and territories.

You posted "New York" as a comment. I dont see any question, link, or discussion in there.

One thing I'm not crazy about with the Xenforo software is that when you post a link, it just looks like text unless you hover over it. It's not always apparent there's a link there at all. You can choose to make the link bold or underline it if you want it to be more obvious.

I think in this case, maybe making it clear what the point of 'new york' is (whether it's a link or not) would help. Maybe be a little less cryptic.

No disrespect...but you're willing to assume I'ld just post New York without any other purpose? Look I realize that it took almost two thousand years before a satisfactory meaning was given for whatever the H an irrational number really might be, but this one could have been solved in a lot shorter time! Cuz I aint irrational. :) then again, roots can be square.

Sheesh Al - I saw your post, read back a few to see what you were responding to, and couldn't make sense of it. I don't even understand your last post entirely. Maybe when folks don't understand a post, it's because it wasn't clear?

double joke.
1. Greeks and Indian Hindus invented/created/intuited the concept of irrational numbers a long, long time ago. Pythagoras presented his famous Hypotenus squared equals the sum of the squared sides of a right triangle theorem. Problem was, when solving for H for a right triangle whose sides were each 1, these ancients had no idea what the square root of 2 was. So they just called it an irrational number. Well a definition was finally presented (more like a metaphor actualluy) in the late 19th century. I was using that as a tangential lead-in that I wouldn't just post New York irrationally - shouldn't take 2000 years to figure that out.
2. Assuming you have root privileges. Another pun reversing the previous pun (square root, root can be square).

I know. Yuk. Yuk. But it's better than flame throwing...especially with IT/coding savy people.

Haven't really been able to keep up these days with this thread, so I don't know if it's already come up. How would people feel about having to carry an immunity card to travel, or go into a business establishment ? I've seen rumblings about this here and there. Me, I'm not for it to be honest.

Think of the business opportunity for enterprising people. 😉

With an "immunity card": How often do you need to update it? Does that mean testing?

How can you justify an immunity card but not ID for voting? (devils advocate, not towards you AT ALL)

90% of Ohio economy will be opened by Friday. While that is good news, the things I want opened still are not.

Keeping it non political.... but you raise a good question on the testing. Being I've seen testing results have a 30% inaccuracy rate, just how good would the card actually be.

if I test negative today, how long does that mean I am negative for? I could get it the very next day.

I know that my mind is starting to get tired of this whole thing. Just tired of being inside, tired of the news, tired of not socializing.

Exactly. And it's precisely an IT person I would expect to point out that a test is a snapshot at a point in time! False positives/False negatives also change the probabilities/accuracy of the result.

I have no doubt Mike. We're lucky in that we're opening up slowly. Was able to get a haircut today LOL. Florida has the downward trend to start opening up, but just saw on the local news that my county (Lee) has an upward trend. I agree, that you can test clean today, and a day or two later test positive.
Hang tough brother.

I think the card would just be part of it. Here is a description of what they are doing in SK.

"install ankle bracelet"
"Install app on your phone"
"must self isolate"
"cannot have contact with anyone"

Those things happen just upon arrival. F**k every single one of those things. You also can't demonstrate if you disagree.

I'm worried: I agree with everything Mike is posting today/yesterday! He's spot on - he's not fixated on any one extreme..he's looking at the bigger picture and the trade-offs.

As part of the backdrop, I'll just state that we are unique. We are America. There has never been a country like ours with its Constitution and Bill of Rights. The trade-offs, the decision process here has more variables - including these vital historical foundations. I get that science (one hopes good science) is a critical component of the decision process. But I am not willing to turn the decisions over entirely to doctors/medical professionals who are not trained or empowered to make decisions with broader impacts. Like anything and everything this is about risk. The risk function has to include all the impacts. I can't recommend what should be in or out for decison criteria or how the measures are normalized. I do know I and many others are extremely concerned with how many governors and some mayors are unilaterally adopting authoritarian edicts without any legislative support - and, worse, not even applying the edicts in a consistent way. I'll leave it at that.
