Should the Redskins Sign WR Desean Jackson?

  • Yes - but only if the contract strongly favors the Redskins.

  • No - he's not the kind of player this team needs.

  • I would prefer not, but will take a wait-and-see attitude and hope Gruden can 'coach him up'.

DeSean Jackson

I still have mixed feelings. I am excited because of the talent and possibilities. I just hope his "baggage" isn't too heavy for us.
I also hope this doesn't mean the end of Tana... I know he's lost a step but with London Fletcher retiring, they need some sort of leader and I think, especially with the addition of Jackson, Tana would be a great leader in the locker room, especially on offense. I hope there's a slot for him at the end of everything.

Just my two cents....

HTTR!

Been mostly staying out of the fray on this one...I am still of the belief that you address your OL first before anything. With that said, if this knuckle head can mature, and still produce...it's a win. If we get stung like we did with McCrapp, I will be pissed. If we pay him more than we pay Garcon...that's just ****ed up!

Wait and see...that's all we can do at this point, wait and see...

Oh and Good friggin night! 19 hour work days suck!

I should not have posted DJax's affiliation with a rapper.....now Ax is going to consider his connection to a rapper, as sufficient cause to call in and have Djax arrrested for gang activity :D
No, it just confirms his lack of taste. ;)

Not surprised by this one. Did anyone catch the Dameshek podcast last week (Thursday?)? Dan Hellie ('skins fan) was a guest and said he'd spoken to Gruden last week. Take this with a big a pinch of salt as you wish, but he said he asked Gruden 'off the record' how many recievers he still needed. Sure Jay wasn't silly enough to think that it would be a confidential disclosure, but replied (paraphrasing): ''Honestly? Another 2 or 3''.

My own take on the FA process so far has been that priority number 1 has been about recruiting depth and 'character'; but keeping our powder dry in case something like the Jackson release should arise.

Put those 2 together and we have a perfect storm. As soon as the links arose, and we were at the front of the queue, couldn't help but put 2 and 2 together and make 4.

The only potential spanner in the works was the money. Whatever the guaranteed numbers of the deal turn out to be, add 50% to those immediately for what Oakland would have been prepared to pay. Don't know about you, but I'm encouraged that he's chosen to stay in the East among a relatively young team. I'm sure he's compensated handsomely, but I think the 'all about the money' argument falls a little flat.

As for the character, believe he started 'no bullying in the huddle' charity. Yes, yes, these personal charities/vanity projects wind me up a bit as well (why not just donate to an existing one in a less showey fashion???), but it doesn't appear to be the actions of a complete 'punk'. Understand that it's a talking point, but tend to think they are overthought and over discussed a bit too much. The only concrete black mark against his name was the possession of weed in 2009 when he was 22. Who here can honestly say they weren't a bit of a tit at 22? I know I was (many say I still am).

Anyway, great news from my POV, and looking forward to a top RT at #34.

Great, so we now have the speed to stretch the field.... now all we need is for Robert to have enough time to let the plays develop. If ya can't block, ya can do much in the down field game.... Gruden and the staff better make some real moves to build the line, or we're just wasting money.

Not real happy waking up to this news.... first Clark, and now Jackson.

Thank you Bruce Allen!

DeSean Jackson's 3-yr deal with the Redskins is worth $24 million, including $16 million guaranteed, per @DarrenHeitner.

Bruce Allen trying to win GM of the year? That's the perfect contract.

Vinny would have paid $12 million a year.

Reasonable. Not a 25% markup.

Good job Allen

My guess is that the numbers will come in just a bit lower when you figure in the "likely to be earned" incentives and how it was designed. Just on the surface, it is a good deal that could be even better once we learn the true numbers.

That's stealing:)

Eh. I'm not going to get carried away. Dude was cut by a team for a reason.

We didn't overpay for a big name free agent. It's a good sign and the type of move we've been missing for a long time.

But not getting carried away :)

That's ... more than I was hoping we'd pay. Not horrible but it's a lot.

On the plus side, Gruden has a lot of weapons to work with this year. His starting QB, RB and top 3 WRs, are all above average to elite level players. TE has potential to be there too if he can stay healthy. FB doesn't suck. If the line can hold, and these players can play together, this offense should be NASTY.

I just hope we didn't sign Trotter 2.0. I hope this was Gruden and not Dan saying 'get me this guy!'

We'll find out soon enough.

Eagles pay DJax $10.5 a yr, Skins only on the line for $8M a year. Less money and we get a guy who has something to prove. Love it

That's a bargain, my friend. That's a big discount.

No details yet but it’s hard to see how a 3-yr., $24 mil. deal can turn into even a mild form of “cap hell” for the Redskins.

Redskins now have best 1-2 receiver punch since Monk-Clark a quarter century ago. Yeah, it has been that long.
