Sonnen isn't the first fighter to get him on the ground.... problem is that everyone who has followed this "blueprint" has lost. Pointing to a late win as evidence of weakness is like saying MJ's buzzer beaters showed the bulls weren't all that good.

Having said that I'm sure that Silva being 36 means that soon enough he'll develop a glass jaw or lose too much speed. It's to his credit however that despite being past his prime he's still as likely to put people to sleep as a rag soaked in chloroform.

I'd like to see them set up a Bones v Spider fight. I think Bones can beat him and I can't recall Silva ever having a huge reach disadvantage. Bones has the longest reach in the UFC (85 inches).
 
Silva has already stated that he will not go up in weight again. He said he has already done it and won, so he sees no need to do it again. I think he's scared of the dude, Jones is just too big for him . I heard grumblings of a catch weight fight with St Pierre, but that was a few months ago and I have heard nothing since.

If, like previously mentioned, Sonnen gets past Stann he will get another shot at Silva. Then we could see if the excessive level of testosterone was the reason for him taking the 1st 4 rounds of the fight.
 
Predictions:

Bones over Rampage - KO round 3, I think Rampage will push this fight but in the end, younger better conditioned and quite frankly lately untouchable Bones catches him.

Kos over Hughes - TKO ground and pound round 2, Hughes is a legend but age is not in his favor anymore

Browne vs Broughton - I have no idea how to call this one but someone will probably get f***** up

Diaz over Gomi - submission round 3 - Gomi proceeds to whoop Nate for 3 rounds but gets caught by the gumby diaz

Rothwell vs Hunt - This doesnt make it out of the first as these two behemoths swing for the fences, Rothwell gets the early KO
 
Got the submission part right, wrong round for the Diaz fight. Nate worked Gomi like a $5 thailanese prostitute.
 
Looks like a solid card for tonight

Prediction time:

Edgar vs Maynard: - This is the toughest fight to pick, but I'm going with Maynard, by however it happens lol.

Aldo vs Florian: I just think Aldo is too fast for KenFlo - Aldo round 3, tko

Sonnen vs Stann: Sonnen by tko round 2

Guillard vs Lauzon: I like Lauzon and Guillard, but I'm going with Guillard in round 2 tko
 
I didn't think I would be this excited to see Maynard and Edgar fight again, but the more I watch Frankie Edgar fight, the more I like the kid. If he can get out of the 1st 2 rounds again, he will win this fight. His motor is ceasing, Maynard will wither toward the end of the fight unless he has had an outrageous amount of training on cardio.

Edgar wins a close unanimous decision. I don't think either of them get rocked like the previous fights.

I just don't know what to think of Florian. His last fight he looked just good enough to win. He should be more adjusted to the weight the 2nd go round. Aldo is something special and if his leg kicks get going early the way Nunes was able to do against Florian, Kenny is in for it! Let's wait to see how Aldo responds to a bigger fighter. I think Florian upsets Aldo in this fight.

Stann is going to knock Sonnen out.

Guillard should be the one fighting for a title tonight not Maynard, he had his shot and couldn't win it. Guillard has been walking through the competition lately. I like Lauzon, but Melvin is a bad ass, even though I don't like him.

Edit:

Joey Lauzon is a bad man, Guillard got rocked!

I figured Sonnen would weaken since he'd no longer be able to take substances, man's still go it.

Jose Aldo is a helluva fighter. Not sure there is a featherweight who can beat him.

Here comes Frankie and Gray!

Man was I wrong about the fights tonight! :laugh:. I did not expect Maynard to get to Edgar like that first round! Nor did I expect Frankie to knock him out like that.

Picked 2 winners but not how it happened lol and Edgar gave back strong after getting rocked early, he's a beast. Aldo looks unstoppable right now, KenFlo got hit a couple times and then drastically backed off, plus the failed takedown attempts I think had him timid, plus Aldo's leg kicks are just nasty.

Yea, but you followed up your "plural fights" comments with two statements about the same Edgar fight. Still no mention of the Sonnen fight, even with the EDIT you referred to. But whatever. :)

So, what's your prediction of the Sonnen/Silva rematch, assuming it happens as the next fight ?

OK, so we can put this to rest!

I was wrong about the Aldo fight. Florian got scared after Aldo started landing leg kicks! Aldo is a beast.

I was wrong about the Maynard and Edgar fight. I thought it would be a tight fight going the distance. I did not expect to see Frankie get rocked early, again. And I certainly did not expect Maynard to get knocked out. Frankie is a bad man.

I watched Guillard's last 3 fights and he has been dominant. I like Joey Lauzon, but he's struggled as of late. I figured Guillard would rock Lauzon. I was wrong.

Once again, like I stated previously, I was wrong about this card. Very wrong.

So why are you pressing me here?

As for Sonnen, I was concerned with the level of juice he was taking, thinking he would weaken after coming off whatever he was taking. He looked solid and won. Sonnen rocked Stann! Was my statement that "He's still got it" not a good enough admission for you? Well my apologies. While I wanted to see Sonnen win because I want to see him fight Silva again, I did not think he would. I was wrong. Sonnen looked a lot better than I expected!

Will that suffice Fear?

As for the Silva v. Sonnen fight, I am not sure what to think at this point. I do know that Silva does not like Sonnen. I would not want to go in the ring to fight Silva if he disliked me as much as he has expressed his dislike for Sonnen.

Dude, what are you doing? Are you intentionally trying to instigate? Because you're being a real dick here.

I clearly stated I do not know what to think at this point. I want Sonnen to win since I am not a fan of Silva's, but a motivated Silva is probably unbeatable. Silva has never really mentioned a true dislike for any of his opponents so if they are matched, which is likely inevitable, Silva will probably train harder and be much more motivated than he was during their first fight, a fight he won by the way.

And to clarify the comment I made previously that you so clearly did not understand, if I were fighting the likes of Anderson Silva, I would not want to face him angry at me or disliking me. It would be hard enough to fight him without added motivation.

Sonnen? Yeah, I would be much more concerned with a motivated Silva than a motivated Sonnen.
 
I don't know why you're getting defensive, I'm just asking honest and logical questions here. I don't see Silva being angry as a big issue, because Sonnen's trash-talking prior to the last fight sure did not seem to motivate Silva much. Silva was pretty much flat and obviously dominated, up until his triangle hold. I just don't see how or why you're portraying this round of trash-talking as any different from the last time. The fight results might be much different this time, but it won't be because of the trash talking. Sonnen pretty much insulted Silva's whole country prior to the last fight. How much worse can it get than that ?

I watched the fights last night. I wasn't overly impressed by the card when I saw the line up, but there were some good fights.

And while I enjoy the fact that the fights are televised, last night's action was taped and broadcast with several minute commercial breaks in between rounds of the Main Event. I hope they don't plan to do that with the Heavyweight Championship next week.

Looking forward to see how Velasquez handles all that time off. This is his first title defense after all. After the Dos Santos fight with Carwin, I am not sure Cain can withstand the stiff jab and heavy right hand of Dos Santos. Cain has power too, but he hasn't looked nearly as sharp with his punches, much less loading up combinations the way Junior has.
