2nd-Annual BGO Ballers Fantasy Football League

Relax. Yo uonly got 4 points out of one of your starting RBs, that balances things some. Wait until Monday to brag too much. Karma is a bitch.

That it is, but my RB that did ****ty was a forced pick I didn't want. I wanted Stephen Jackson dammit lol.

Alright, I guess I am not understanding some of the scoring rules. I have New Orleans Defense and Special Teams. They had a punt returned for a TD last night but it does not not appear that I got points for that. Is it the Special Teams unit that scores or the player (Darren Sproles) who gets the points?

I looked at the scoring rules but if that information is in there I missed it.

Neo.....they gave up a lot of points.

I'm at work, and will have to check the scoring.....but if your team gives up big points, you get penalized.

For giving up 34 points, you got a -4. When Sproles got the TD, that gave you 3 points, giving you a -1. Then when Jonathan Casillas sacked Aaron Rodgers, you got another point. That puts you even at 0.

Scoring in FF is pretty standard, and usually goes like this....

Offense:

QB, RB, WR, TE
6 pts per rushing or receiving TD
6 pts for player returning kick/punt for TD
6 pts for player returning or recovering a fumble for TD
4 pts per passing TD
2 pts per rushing or receiving 2 pt conversion
2 pts per passing 2 pt conversion
1 pt per 10 yards rushing or receiving
1 pt per 25 yards passing
Bonus Points
2 pts per rushing or receiving TD of 40 yards or more
2 pts per passing TD of 40 yards or more
Penalty Points
-2 pts per intercepted pass
-2 pts per fumble lost

Kickers

5 pts per 50+ yard FG made
4 pts per 40-49 yard FG made
3 pts per FG made, 39 yards or less
2 pts per rushing, passing, or receiving 2 pt conversion
1 pt per Extra Point made
Penalty Points
-2 pts per missed FG (0-39 yds)
-1 pt per missed FG (40-49 yds)

Defensive/Special Teams

10 pts for 0 points allowed
7 pts for 2-6 points allowed
4 pts for 7-13 points allowed
1 pt for 14-17 points allowed
0 pts for 18-21 points allowed
-1 pts for 22-27 points allowed
-4 pts for 28-34 points allowed
-7 pts for 35-45 points allowed
-10 pts for 46+ points allowed
3 pts per defensive or special teams TD
2 pts per interception
2 pts per fumble recovery
2 pts per blocked punt, PAT, or FG
2 pts per safety
1 pt per sack

Looks like you might be right, McD5. I didn't think that was it but you take a 4 point hit for giving up the number of points GB scored last night and that would be enough to nearly offset. Two sacks and a ST TD would be 8 points, minus the 4 for giving up 42 points equals a total of 4 points, which is what I got.

Thanks. I guess I should do more math before I ask questions. :)

Thanks Extreme. That's what I was thinking.

It may be too late for everyone......but this league doesn't reward defenses very much. So little in fact, that they are nearly worthless.

Unless you have a D that will make a lot of turnovers, the D isn't important this season. That's why I was shocked to see people drafting them so early.

Edit: No Neo....ask away anytime. No question is stupid.

And I definitely should have started Nelson last night. He was worth 14.3. Somehow, with Manning out indefinitely, I am thinking Nelson might be a better starter than Reggie Wayne.

He may be. But Indy has a veteran backup. I wouldn't be too worried.

Now if you had Garcon, or Reggie Wayne, I would be concerned. Whoops, you do have Wayne.....

One thing you have working in your favor, is that you will get a point for every reception. And Wayne tends to get a bunch.

I have Dallas Clark. Not too worried. Kerry Collins is pretty solid, if not spectacular. Maybe he can come in like Todd Collins did years ago for us.

Veteran, or decrepit? I think Indy is going to struggle, but keep in mind GB was at home, first game home after their SB win, NO isn't known ofr their D, etc. I would stick with Wayne for a couple of weeks just to see how he does with Collins. If he stinks, don't be afraid to bench him.

You can tell , I didn't really pay much attention to the Def scoring in my whoppin' 45 minutes between signing up and the draft. This is kinda weird though...

Several teams a week would actually benefit from benching their defense so as not to incur the neg points an ass whoopin' would net them.

Weak.

Defensive and Special Teams scoring was always watered down to where just a few teams got you anything worth your time in the past IMO... Now ever more so. A couple of teams will score some points, the others will suffer, the NFL is all about scoring.

Good news is the ST play doesn't look like it suffered too much by the rule change... at least in GB last night.

No worries. You still have plenty of time to change things on your roster. I hope this doesn't upset some of the more experienced players in the league, but I'm going to share a few secrets that should help everyone, and raise the level of competition. I would prefer that everyone knows what they are doing...as opposed to some really having a tough time, and then getting turned off by it. I will probably also guarantee that I now lose by sharing this information.

In the pursuit of helping others, here are a few suggestions that usually take a few years to learn:

1. There are only a few Ds worth having--obviously, the ones that cause the most turnovers in this league, and anyone who can return a punt for a td. Don't have one? Here's a suggestion. Consider dropping your current D if it's mediocre, and instead change Ds often. Some of the best players change literally every single week. Simply find the worst QBs in the league, and then pick up whatever D they are playing in the upcoming game--if that D is available. If you find a serious QB int machine, you can improve by altering your D often.

2. This might be the most important point for success--the best RBs in the league may not even be on anyone's roster currently. Every season, some big name gets injured, and his replacement comes in and lights it up. Jamaal Charles was a great example two years ago. Jerome Harrison was another the same year. He came in late for the crappy Browns, and ran for 283? yards in one single game. It didn't matter who you were playing. If you picked up these no-names when the starters got injured--you won. You can turn an average team into a champion by watching for these injuries, and then having a little luck.

3. Think of the year as two seasons. The regular season, and the playoffs. Don't worry if you lose a few games--everyone does. Your first goal should simply be to make the playoffs. Ranking or seeding really doesn't mean a whole lot. Often times, teams come out of nowhere to win the entire league. And here's why......

Probably the best kept secret, and one that really separates the winner from everyone else, is that the winner looks to see who his/her players are playing against in weeks 14, 15 and 16.

Keep your big stars now, and ride them into the playoffs for the first ten weeks or so. But then focus on those playoff weeks, and their opponents. If I am facing you, and we both have great QBs or RBs, but my playoff games are against the Bills, Bengals and Jags.....while your players go against the best Ds.....your season is already over.

So you just checked your roster, and you realize that you might be in trouble, with your star RB going up against "murderer's row" in the playoffs? Now what? Don't panic. Just wait until the playoffs are a few weeks away, and consider trading these stars to another player in the league who is on the playoff bubble--and who could really use them. You can then set yourself up for a huge playoff run.

Also remember, that certain teams who have clinched may rest their starting QB or RB in week 16. If you have for example, John Doe as your QB, and John Doe's team is 12-1, you had better be thinking of a great backup on your roster for the crucial playoff games.

Just remember.......think of this as two different seasons. Getting to the playoffs, and then positioning yourself for the most favorable matchups possible when the playoffs do arrive. It doesn't take long. Just look at the opponents in weeks 14, 15 and 16.

I'll even sacrifice a few wins later in the season, if I am sure I have made the playoffs, to line up patsies for the playoff games.

I hope this helps. FF is like chess. Good luck everyone.

You're right about things getting easily overlooked. When it comes to defense, I get laughed at for my starting D, but I guarantee you my D brings more points than any other D in FF this year.

Oh, I have the Browns.

Extreme, still scratching your head over the Starks pick?

Cooley has not been officially eliminated from the game, but I doubt he plays, or gets significant playing time. That's why I am starting Davis tomorrow. He will haul in at least 6 Rec and 1 TD!
