It's an argument I've been making for years.....until Bill Belichick shows me he can win big without one of the best QB's of all time stirring his drinks, he's just another very good coach who hit the lottery. He MAY be a great head coach. IMO he's just not earned the exalted status conferred upon him so easily by the media and public at large.

Been on the Patriots boards today Serv?

I just got off perusing a couple Pats forums, Sarge. The reaction is mixed but mostly very positive. First, these fans trust BB implicitly-serious kool-aid drinkers here. Second they are referring to it as a high risk/high reward situation. They run a lot of 4-3 sub packages and pretty much think Haynesworth will be on the outside as opposed to NT when they have 3 down.

They're babbling about how nasty he Warren and Wilfork will be together and are pretty much convinced that Fat Al will be happier and that if he acts up BB wil get rid of him in a New York minute.

Like I said, there were people who were really put off by his "character" history but they're convinced Belichick can bring him under control.

Even with Brady falling into his lap, you do have to admit that his defenses in New England have been nothing to sneeze at.

I'm not a Spygate guy per se but that's the immediate response...how many have they won since they got busted? Oh and I've never been a fan of using a comparison to another person/team to validate a point made about someone else. Just because the Redskins have sucked donkey balls in that time doesn't mean BB is a genius in my book Spurrier was literally a joke (anyone hear Ross Tucker's retelling of Spurrier's Training camp speech??!!!) and Jim Zorn...not a joke he actually took his job seriously but maybe the two worst HC's in the league the last 20-30 years.

I would agree that BB's got a lot of JG coaching qualities in him (although JG was a hell of a lot better at playing the bigger man when things didn't go his way. He's was not a grumpy teen after games he'd lost and still acted like a gentleman), but that asterisk for the whole cheating stuff is pretty huge for me. Kind of like Shanny and Elway...when either (MS or BB) wins another after those accomplishments it will go along way towards cementing their legacy. But that's just one man's opinion.

I don't disagree with much of what you say...but the bottom line is that that organization has flourished...even in the bad years.......for around the last 10 years or so the Pats have been one of the top franchises in football. I don't think anyone can argue that.

because the risk situations are different. this is a no brainer for the Pats. they can *hit can fat albert in a heartbeat without suffering much. it's all upside for them. it makes perfect sense to me.

You can trace New England's ascension from average to dynastic directly to Game 3 of the 2001 season, when Tom Brady got his first start for the then 0-2 Patriots.

I think the answer is somewhere in the middle - yes he lucked into Tom Brady, but he's also continuously brought in the right talent for the defense and kept that running. Also brought in cast-offs like Dillon and got production out of them. Does he deserve all the credit he gets? Probably not - but he definitely deserves *SOME* credit. You don't "luck" into 3 superbowls, even cheating.

I don't recall seeing anyone deny BB any credit, Lanky. My personal objection has been to his annointment as Genius.

This is a good move by the Pats. Yes, they play the 3-4, but 50% of their packages are based out of the nickel. What did Albert play last year? The nickel, mainly because he moves upfield. Vince Wilfork mans the center, and Albert will be outside pushing up field. I would be pissing my pants if I was Sanchez. This is what Albert and Billicheck want.

They play nickel way more than we do. It will work for him and Billicheck will come off looking like a genius again. Also, Albert forfeited his base salary this year by skipping training camp last year. So the Pats can cut him without any problems with the cap.

If Albert wants, he can go to the Pats, be a malcontent, be released, and sign with the Eagles. He can also go there and be a beast DE. I think we see Albert in the Pro-Bowl this year for the Pats.

Albert wins in this deal!

So, will there be any repercussions for his off-field antics. He had an assault charge and a sex offense. Is the NFL going to do anything about these transgressions?
