Al, what if we end up with players like Casey Matthews, Brandon Fusco, Roy Helu, Vincent Brown, and Lee Ziemba? These are players who have a chance to start sooner rather than later and many of them are going to pay valuable dividends in the next two or three years. Let's see what happens.

Yep. Tons of complaining about having traded away the 3rd and 4th round picks, but now that they've gotten 3rd and 4th round picks back, plus additional later picks, they aren't worth anything?

Too many years have gone by where we have complained about not having those middle round picks that are so essential towards building a foundation and depth for your team. I think that the front office has acknowledged that we will take our lumps this coming year on Sundays based on their actions the last two nights, but more importantly, they've acknowledged that a real rebuild is necessary for long-term success.
Yes, we do have to hit on these mid-round picks to make this draft a successful one when we look back on it down the road...and so does the rest of the league - everybody is in the same boat.

This is all I am saying. Not sure if my message was clear because I wasn't complaining. Just offering the idea that with four 7th round picks we are likely not going to keep them all so we should try to package some of them and move up to the 4th.

that's not what I said. Draft 3 starters in the first two rounds and sign the rotation RB we all know Shanahan is going to go after in the mid-rounds. that's a great draft! then there are FA signings. again...the numbers are about 50% starters after four years in the second round....35 or so percent in the 3rd round and keep dropping. I wouldn't be so miffed if these guys had a history of really clever late round picks. but that's not the case. I'd have taken that extra second round pick and not thought twice about it.
I hope there's some subtle plan behind all of this. perhaps they're thinking they draft the bench guys who are special teams whizzes this year so they can focus on selecting competitive wideouts, linemen, etc., next year.

God bless. It gets disgusting listening to and reading the media give Belichick blow jobs. Mallett is a nice pick, but everyone is acting like they were so cose to the SB last year and have the luxury of taking a guy to sit behind Brady for three years. They still don't have a freaking pass rush at all.

Oh, and I'm with Henry. It's not just about the bodies, it's about fostering competition. Adding bodies will ramp up training camp to competitive levels we haven't seen in a while. There is the potential for some very surprising cuts.
Plus, if we can use draft/FA for starters next year, we can use the experience from this years draft as valuable backups. Good solid depth.

here's the bottom line: we do ok...but the teams who win year in and year out? it's not luck.....they're just better at strategy than we are. will this ever change?
I miss seeing Blondie during this draft. She usually has the unique female perspective on things.

that's what a team with limited starting talent needs? good starting depth?
not picking on you...I'm frustrated and I expected to be working on other things about two hrs ago! instead I'm sitting here watching all the other teams select the better talent.
