We can only go by what we’ve seen. The little bits we’ve seen certainly aren’t enough to make any long term projection but it’s safe to say he’s not ahead of the curve either.

I've seen a defense that's forced more turnovers in 2 preseason games than it did the entire time Ron Rivera was the HC.

I've seen a defense that's forced more sacks in 2 preseason games than it did in any 2 game stretch i can remember.

Those two things along tell me that beyond the personnel, the scheme should be improved.. and that's in Pre-season, where scheming and game planning arent even a thing. We've likely seen a fraction of the actual defensive and offensive game play.. and I'm not even trying to declare that it will be completely different in the regular season, but it makes a lot more sense to believe we'll see a hell of a lot more, than to believe we've seen everything this team has to offer schematically.

We've seen Gulbin lined up and getting beat in 1 on 1 drills on outside moves when in the real scheme of an offense, the DT never takes an 'edge rush' type approach. We've seen our offense facing defenses that don't have to respect Jayden Daniels and his legs, or play action because our top 2 RBs haven't logged a game snap yet. No thread of RB / TE / WR screens. We've seen 3 plays with our top 3 WRs on the field.

I guess this is to say, we aint really seen shit yet. We may come out in the regular season and see similar results, but I don't think its unfair to ask you the same question... what have we actually seen?

What exactly have we seen? Two series in two games surrounded by mostly non-starters? I have seen interviews with multiple teammates and Quinn that are very impressed by him to date. Is that to be overlooked and/or not taken seriously?

You don’t think it’s a tad premature, based on the small sample size so far, to list him as concerning in a Panic thread?
I haven’t seen or heard anything that leads me to believe we should expect an immediate impact on the field. My comment was less about him and more about it’s just another question mark on a roster filled with question marks. This particular team needs a 7th pick that can immediately contribute. Similar to that of Jayden’s first camp where it was obvious he was going to be good from the jump.

Agreed. I see no reason yet to believe we won’t. Two series in two games with most of the talent he will be playing with watching from the sidelines and without any game planning does not a story tell. At least not yet.

I think Styles is a little bit of our expectations aren’t really aligning with his game as it is now. He’s not a downhill blow you up backer at this point. But hopefully most of those big center of the field completions to tight ends disappear. Gives the rushers time to get there with his coverage. I think at the beginning that will be his strength. Hopefully he’ll develop a big hitter game.. he has the tools that’s for sure.

Thats a really good point.
We do tend to accentuate the negative as being a disaster but writing off the positive as merely a product of it being pre season.

Jayden’s first camp was lauded. Passes weren’t hitting the ground. Players during interviews were hinting at him being gifted. He came out in that first preseason game and connected on that unapproved audible - a nice flash.

Sonny has been lauded this entire camp. Players have said he’s a special talent. The only thing he hasn’t done is flash in the handful of plays he’s had in the preseason. I’d argue that “flash” is more difficult to pull off at LB than QB.

Speaking on what he has done so far.. all I saw during that All 22 of the 14 play drive vs Miami was Leo Chanal over pursuing. Sonny didn’t look lost to me one bit. He got washed out in the Dobbs run but over pursuit by Joseph’s made the run less stressful than it should have been.

JD wasn’t very good his first couple games. Felt like the switch turned on for him immediately after that big throw to Terry vs Cincy.

Sonny might be the next Urlacher, who knows. It took Urlacher a couple years before he was a HOF level performer.

All this is to say this thread has been helpful in sorting us into the glass half full vs half empty camps. I don’t think either side is more “right” than the other.

But I will say THOU SHALT NOT DOUBT THE OPTIMIST OF THY FAVORITE TEAM. Cuz once we go 10-7 and everything is peaches and cream you will feel silly for having tried to win the argument. Lose-Lose or Win-win, your choice!

(I kid)

I voted for somewhat worried. But I'm not sure that's really accurate.

I could talk myself into panic mode:

1. Allegretti isn't going to be ready for the beginning of the regular season
2. Or maybe he is, but he hasn't practice at all, and there is no cohesion on the line
3. Paul is below average and was just carried along by Tunsil and Biadasz last season
4. We don't have a competent NFL backup Center
5. Conerly didn't develop
6. The only sure thing on the line is Cosmi.

That's a legitimate outlook, and would be panic inducing.

I could talk myself into a "wait and see"
1. Allegretti returning will help a lot, even if he's not great, he's at least an NFL player
2. Cosmi didn't play because of sickness
3. Paul started all last year and was at least servicable
4. When they start really game planning, it's going to be ok.
5. Coleman actually is pretty good at LT.
6. If they had Coleman, Paul, Allegretti, Cosmi and Conerly, that's not that bad. It might be ok.

I do think they're going to sign another center.

I don't know if Paul is really good enough.

I'm definitely worried.

im always worried. last time i wasnt was at some point in 2012 when the read option became an infallible cheat-code for a minute or two

If we get demolished during the ravens game, panic levels will peak!
Probably. But I watch the last preseason game like I would "Reality TV." This is about rooting for players to fulfill their dream. It's not really about the Commanders. It's about the deep bench, the draft crushes, and the Cinderellas.

Rooting for all these players to flash well enough to find their way onto the roster, a practice squad, or another team. As a guy who's been Captain Almost and a small fish, I see myself in these players and I just want them to shine.

Theyre going to play the starting oline at least wont they? Seems any reps are needed reps

I remember arguing with some idiot that Quinn is just Rivera 2.0.. its playing out pretty much just like it, but more like Peters+Quinn = Rivera .. in fact if Rivera had a #2 pick in a QB heavy draft, he could have easily built a better team.
And yes.. i know its preseason and 3rd stringers.. but this teams 3rd stringers vs Balt are not competitive at all.

The game doesn't matter. Almost no one played who matters. Yet losing that badly just puts a bad taste in your mouth. Makes you feel negative.

To those, like me, who stayed the entire game all I can say is you deserve better.

This is so funny to me because we are on opposite sides of the coin again.

I have zero care whatsoever about this shitshow.

I don’t think it means a thing in any direction. It doesn’t change any of what I thought.

Life is so interesting and how differently wired we all are

To each their own.

I started out saying it doesn't matter. I stick with that. But it did leave a bad taste in my mouth. Maybe it's because we were undisciplined and had too m,any penalties. Maybe because it looked like the team phoned it in. Maybe because I root for the underdog and wanted to see someone I could be excited about achieving their dreams. Hell, I want our bubble players to be diamonds in the ruff and sparkle a little bit. Is that so awful?

Again, this game doesn't matter because the players we will depend on didn't play, but it was just a terrible showing and I repeat... those of us watched the game deserved better. Our scrubs practiced an entire off season to achieve this result?

Blech!

Is that so awful?
Nope.

But they’ve looked roughly the same all preseason. So, I also didn’t expect anyone to pop.

To each their own for sure, but this performance doesn’t change anything. Good, bad, otherwise.

We shouldn’t be letting this game be what sends us over the edge. Theres been far worse (and better) that’s occurred during this offseason.

We’ll see. My hopes aren’t high but this game isn’t what put me there. They’ll be much better than this showing.

Oh, I still think we can be decent this season... if we can get the o line right. I'm not sure we can get the o line right, but if we do then we'll be okay.

There's part of me that thinks if we get a legit NFL center (that could be Allegretti) not even a good one then we'll be competitive. Honestly, on paper, I like most of our groups. Still, I could easily imagine this season falling off a cliff, too.
