I think this is valid. But not all inexperienced players are built the same and not all coaching staffs are equipped to handle that load.

That said, we’ll see how it plays out. If I was a Seahawk fan I’d be concerned.

I’m hoping that this bad practice translates into an increased effort over the next few weeks to get ready for Philadelphia. In many years, this team has gone into the season overly confident.

I don’t sense that’s gonna be an issue this year.

Again, not arguing that there isn’t any.. but I’m not ready to go into it believing we have no chance.. if that was the case, it wouldn’t be fun for me. I also wouldn’t exactly put a bunch of money on us… I’m not irrational.

The bigger point is trying to settle the storm a bit. You’re a football coach, you understand how much scheme actually creates within an offense and defense. We’re watching Gulbin get ‘beat’ in 1 on 1 practices, and in Joint practices that are designed to stress the player. They’re not showing protection practices, or real protection adjustments at the LOS. Games are different than practices…

ALL of that might be utter bull shit, and it may be wrong, but it’s still a reasonable doubt. There is still meat on the bone, beyond just personnel changes, that can affect the performance of the O-Line, and beyond that, the offense as a whole. It might not all happen, but that is something we truly wont know, or be able to truly predict, until the season starts.

One of the reasons I am 'concerned' (but not panicked) is that I sense the players and coaches are 'concerned'. You can't ignore that. Jayden sounded frustrated yesterday. Dan Quinn used the word 'debacle' after the Lions game and his presser earlier this week sounded like flight of ideas. We're getting pretty late in the game here not to have a good plan at a position as critical as center. I agree some here are over the top with the 'we're all doomed' mindset. But I'd feel better if I didn't see concern on players and coaches faces. That's not a good vibe imho.

I mean, when have I said we don’t have any chance? When you have a franchise style QB you always have a chance. I just don’t think we’ve built the roster to give us the BEST chance. And that has been a consistent stance this whole offseason.

Schematically, sure. It can cover some issues. But it can’t cover up major concerns. And, I’m not sold on the coaching staff. I think Blough will be good down the line for sure. And may even be now. But he has a lack of experience. That is going to make things tougher. And his assistants aren’t experienced enough to account for it.

But JD5 is the great x factor. As long as he’s upright, he gives us a chance. So the focus has to be keeping him up. Diggs and McLaurin will make plays.

But is that enough? Maybe.

I’m not sold that we’ll be the worst team in the NFL, either.

But the proof is in the pudding. And the pudding doesn’t look good.

They don’t want people to rank them low or think they’re bad they’ll need to prove it.

Sorry, that was more a generic statement about ‘settling the storm’ that has taken over the board. There’s a lot of doom and gloom on the board right now, and it’s spilling out across most of the threads. A good bit is trying to calm things down some.

And that was supposed to be a major selling point of Quinn, his relationships. Didn’t pan out, and then he flushed his coordinators, and then we had to settle for scraps and in-house promotions at position coaching and assistant position coaching spots, because all of a sudden the job security feels weak.

Other than the Ed Donatell relationship connection, from my vantage point, I can't see how Tommy keeps his job, even when his direct boss gets changed. Usually, the guys you think are underperforming assistants get canned at that time too.

So, we are left with:
1) DQ has his eye on the ball. He knows Tommy is good and kept him.
2) DQ does not have his eye on the ball. Tommy was left behind by accident.
3) DQ respects Ed and gives Tommy a big leash, probably bigger than he should or has earned.
4) DQ let Daronte decide, and Daronte decided to keep Tommy

There are other variants. Like, they didn't have time to replace Tommy. I don't buy that one.
I think these 4 are really the only ones that make any amount of reasonable sense from our vantage point with what we know and don't know.
If anyone has another, I'm all ears. I have been really busy recently so could have missed something obvious.

I would say #3 is the most likely, and it is really disturbing. I just don't see that unit performing even allowing for talent deficiencies, and I do feel many mistakes I see generally would fall into that assistant level.

I am right there with both of you. 👊🏼

To me there is a wide gulf between being pessimistic about current events and some of the ‘feelings’ shared here. I hope that the team has success beyond what I anticipate. And that hope is absolutely not desperation. It’s just not.

Part of me wonders if it's the difference between having a "take" and having a "discussion." We call it a message board, but this place is at its best when its a discussion board. This isn't the place to necessarily post "Look at me! Look at me!" hyperbolic, attention-grabbing takes.

Twitter and sports radio often is about presenting a "take." Maybe too many of us have been trained to think in those terms. Got to write out that dramatic declaration and then everyone piles on.

(Ironically, this post is more of a take than a discussion. It's more of an exaggeration of what I think we're experiencing.)

There is a difference between a take and panic, too. We are talking in text and that can come across however your inner voice wants it to come across.

Some folks are taking things in a way too “panicky” tone when they aren’t.

As mentioned above, this is a discussion forum. Discussing why we believe something is the way it is… is kinda the point.

I don’t see an issue with any of these conversations. It’s what we’re here for.

Someone alluded to it earlier. One of the immutable truths of messageboard culture is that when things look suspect, optimistic posters get on the nerves of the pessimistic, and pessimistic posters get on the nerves of the optimistic. It's not a new dynamic. It's human nature. The difference here is, we don't allow the gap between those groups to devolve into namecalling and/or nastiness. Generally speaking, the best approach is to work on the tone and content of our own posts and try to keep some balance and reasonability in our perspectives. Somewhere between Eeyore/Chicken Little and hopeless homerism is that sweet spot
