The flip side to this is that your doctor's are being upgraded. Give me a younger doctor who's up to date on the latest medicines and procedures over the grey beard any day.
I agree to an extent, kind of case by case. My GP is actually a pulmonary specialist. He's 4 years younger than me, and anytime I bring up a subject I may have seen online about treatments or procedures, he has only once not already heard about it. He's so on top of it it's scary. He's retiring because he's sick of fighting the system... Every other doctor I see speak so highly of him. He doesn't have an "entourage" doing his job, and actually takes the time to sit and talk to you, never in a rush to get you out the door. Last visit, he stopped me as I was leaving the room to show me a bunch of photos from his trip to Antarctica. He's old school in how he operates, and that's what can't be replaced. He'd be the ultimate house call doc. You're not going to replace someone like that.
Sure, the one doctor ( endocrinologist ) for the type II didn't know that taking ibuprofen for extended periods can raise your blood sugar in some people with type II. She also didn't know about cooking white rice, and then freezing it. The freezing does something to the starch / sugar. Heat it up, and you can pretty much have a lot more rice without effecting your blood sugar. Sure, that's a bit obscure, but she should have known about the ibuprofen at the least IMO.
My new dentist is your flip side big time. All the latest and greatest goodies, right down to a CT scanner, which they used to find a problem they hadn't been able to. She must have dropped a fortune on equipment and training of the staff. She's late 30's, early 40's, so she'll be around for a long time.
I don't blow off the gray beard guys in the least. I was 5 and had a cyst on my right wrist, we went to old doc LaBalbo, likely in his 70's at the time. He sat my at his desk, put my hand so it hung over the edge, and slammed the cyst with a very VERY heavy book... He was in shock a little, as he had never heard a 5 year old cuss like that, but it never came back, which is likely pure luck.
Today, god knows how many office visits, co-pays, maybe drain it a couple of times, and then surgery... and it could still come back... cysts have a habit of doing that.
