The 2026 Draft Thread - Day 2

We were bottom half on the league last year on 3rd down conversions. In contrast, in ‘24 we were pretty damn good. Williams feels like someone who can quickly turn into a best friend for Jayden and be a chain mover underneath.

Actually, that sounds pretty good to me. Sounds like Peters decided to go for the polished guy over the RAS guy this time. Probably speaks to what we all know. WR is in really bad shape. He wanted someone who was not a project.

Yeah to me that WR spot is code red. If they weren't in dire need of a WR who can hit the ground running, he might not be as high on me list.

But I wasn't into boom-bust projects. It's part of the reason why in that 2nd tier group I pushed Bernard, A. Williams, and Sarratt. Antonio my 2nd fav of those three, just a hair behind Bernard.

And that's not because these are the high upside WRs. They aren't. But they have enough upside. Antonio wasn't the best athlete in this group, but a good one with the 4.42 speed.

This is living rent free in my head right now. Why the fuck would you even say this sentence out loud if you're AP? The dude is one of the best pure slots (I like Burks more in this class, but two Burks may break the Matrix) and it's a no brainer that he is a pure slot. Don't get cute, AP. Please. For the love of God.

In AP's presser, he said a lot more not just one thing they loved about him. He was the highest on their board. Mentioned adding competition when asked about Luke and Lane.

4.42 is plenty fast. Heck, it's more than a tenth faster than Tate.

What are you offering?

Unpopular but I’d be willing to dip into the 2027 kitty a bit. Future 4th would be on the table for me. Maaaaybe the 3rd if I got the future 4th back in a swap from a seemingly bad team. I’d wait as long as absolutely possible (until there’s only one guy in this tier left that I must have, since we wouldn’t pick till the 5th) and see if the high 5th + future pick was enough to jump up.

I also agree with KDawg that I would’ve been shopping Payne all along. We’re almost past the point where I’d consider the deal valuable enough.

I disagree. Physically he's not tiny, but his on-field size/frame fits perfect as a slot. His whole game fits the slot profile. Why fuck around?

I don't think we will. I'm going to tell myself he will be a pure slot and all will be okay. And I'm going to believe myself. Because if I can't believe me who can I believe?
I didn't read that as him saying he's not gonna play the slot. just speaking to skillset and versatility. I'd wait till training camp and see where they are primarily running him.

Yes. He's a quality player who fits the slot perfect for us. Guy gets open.

There's really not anything to complain about with him.

He's an upgrade and our receiving corps is better with him. Enough for me.

It'll be the slot. AP just knows how to work my emotions because I think he gets too cute too often despite actually being a good talent evaluator.

He toys with my emotions.

I listened to the statement, I don’t think that Peter’s said he was going to play outside. He said that they liked the versatility and he showed he could beat players outside and inside, and that was different and what separated him from others.

What I didn’t hear was “we’re moving him outside.”

What I heard was “we like he can win against good players anywhere.”

What they will do, I don’t know.

But my guy probably hasn’t slept since March so maybe he just fumbled the message a little bit.

My whole point was he's a natural slot not Z. So what are we disagreeing on?

I doubt they will, he was probably just touting his versatility like coaches and gm's love to do.

You said he had the size to play outside. I don't think so. I think his whole frame is prototypical for the slot.

Disagreeing that he even could play outside.

I don't even want that thought in the ether.

There are times when you’d want to motion Terry inside, or Chig out. Nice if Williams had the versatility to not be useless in those cases, can keep the same personnel on the field if you’re in hurry-up. Can avoid having him on the sidelines all the time in 12 personnel if he’s the absolute best 2nd option you have behind Terry. Sounds like a versatility thing maybe. And probably a random comment among very many of them that was just pulled out into that quote as if it was super significant rather than a passing comment

Ah, GM Handbook Page 3 Section 1 Article 1 Paragraph 2 Sentence 4.

I see you're a learned man.

I'd love Terry to be the full time Z. Can move him around real easy from there. Or F, whatever the hell they are calling the flanker in the NFL schemes these days.

We still need an X - likely Burks right now.

Yeah I'd be surprised if he played Z or much of it. He did play a good amount of Z in 2024, his best season, so maybe Peters is thinking of that. But to me he's a natural slot. But who knows, wio will see.

In regards to Williams, Peters spoke about how he has some nuances to his game that are already pro ready. Williams has figured out a few things that most prospects don’t learn until the next level according to AP. That caught my attention and suggests we are potentially dealing with a player we can expect to come in day 1 and realistically contribute. More so than anything, we need THAT at pick 71. We can’t afford having a developmental player at this spot. Looking up in that regard so I cannot bash the pick.
