I gotta say, this actually looks pretty swank.

I have one sweatshirt with just the block W on it which I got for Christmas 2 years ago, and that's all the Commanders gear I have. I bought none of them, all were gifts.

I have 2 t-shirts and a hat from the Washington Football Team era. The shirts are starting to wear out.

I have several hats, 2 vintage Burgundy and Gold Gibbs II sideline polos, a Redskins pullover which sadly is starting to fit tight (and it's ENTIRELY because it's shrinking) and some other Redskins gear. Not counting my Redskin jerseys (ST21, Jacoby, Grimm, Monk, and a custom Potroast my wife gave me as a gag.)

I'm seriously considering making this my summer hat.

I've noticed that the new helmets are already not showing for sale on the Team Store. Either they have sold out already or they are worried they are going to before the draft day party on the 23rd. My impression is that this gear is flying off the shelves already and that is great. I will get it eventually.

I must say the last day and 1/2 is the best I have felt about the look of this team since 2019. Feels so good to have the classic threads back in place. For me, I feel like a weight has largely been lifted. Yes, it's not exactly the same as what we had, but for the world that we are in now I'm just happy to be back to watching a team that looks like the team I've known all my life.

In my office at work, I had a burgundy initial release Commanders mini helmet. My son was 10 at the time when we bought them, and mostly for his sake I put my feelings aside and tried really damn hard to like them. Without that memory, I literally feel NOTHING for that largely bland helmet and I'm very glad to retire it as a relic of a very sad time in our team's history. Already brought it home to box up and put it away. The one going with me back to work tomorrow is last year's Super Bowl era. As it wasn't the full-time helmet yet (and is matte not like the brand new glossy one) I felt a little strange about taking it and displaying it like it was the full time. I'm a loyal person, and it was only an alt last year. Now that it's (mostly) the current helmet I feel differently. Time for front and center.

I just realized there may be an existential meaning to the alternate helmet logo...

...could it be they're showing that they want to "stick a fork (or in this case a spear) in the W logo"? Are they foreshadowing the eventual demise of the W logo?

I have seen it pointed out that next year is the fifth since the original rebrand and apparently the NFL rules allow for the primary logo to change only after 5 seasons. They could be planning to switch to the spear combo logo full-time or something else altogether.

The spear pointing downward from the front is menacing as hell. Again, the level of improvement here over the 2022 black uniform cannot be understated. The team will want to bleed in these things.

I have been thinking about this since I ordered my black alt logo hat the day they unveiled these. How did I go from hating the black alts to buying a hat?

Initially I thought it was because it is such an improvement over The WOS and Tanya’s Great Value Brand Steelers Uniform (that unfortunately will be forever linked to one of the greatest plays in franchise history.)

But then I realized it is more than that. A lot of teams have done alt black uniforms as a revenue generator. In an alternate universe where 2020 never happens and the Washington Redskins jumped on the alt black uniforms fad, I imagine the uniforms would look very similar to what they unveiled Wednesday. The alt blacks feel like the Redskins despite being a color we haven’t used as a primary before.

We can debate all day whether Harris and Co. should (or even could change the name again), but I have come to believe they have done a masterful job turning lemons to lemonade within the confines of a goofy name and social issue landmines surrounding the franchise branding history. I mean Holy Crapola -they got me, who railed against black alts in conversations with friends and family, to buy a hat I am going to pair with my old Redskins jerseys. Has more the soul of my beloved franchise than any of the absolute vomit WOS, Tanya, and Nike tried to foist on us.
