I think you are going too far back in this pull. I bet if you go back 5-10 years, the hit rate looks markedly better.

I feel, on average, today’s WR prospects are far more technical and NFL ready than they used to be back then.

I would also imagine the bust rate of WRs jumps when you go up to a certain height like 6-3 or 6-4 because of inability to separate

I just feel like a lot of WR prospects in the first round don't work out the way they are projected.

That's not statistical, it's just a gut feel.

It's not a big deal one way or the other and I'm not going to do a deep dive on it.

It’s a skill position. Teams rarely reach on non-skill position players but the pressure to find difference makers at the skill positions is so intense, teams force the issue. It’s not as bad with WRs as it is with QBs but it’s still a thing.

So my argument is it isn’t any harder to find great WRs in the draft than it is most other positions - but teams overdraft these guys all of the time because of the impact when you find a really good one.

Couldn’t find data (well Claude couldn’t!) on just the last 5 years. I don’t think it will have changed that much (but that’s just perception)

The Treylon Burks archetype used to be more popular in the 90s and early 2000s. Still happens time to time (ex Burks and Harry) but feels less so

I think the problem is the Washington outlier.

Westbrook, Gardener, Dotson, (I'm forgetting at least two) are a pretty bad group. Maybe some of 'em were servicable but none stars or as good as their draft position.

This off-season, I'd love to see the team jettison Hartman and replace him with a QB the coaching staff actually feels comfortable putting into a game if JD5 and Mariota are both unavailable. We shouldn't have to go looking for a guy off the street, as we did with Johnson last season. If he's not good enough to play jn an NFL game, he shouldn't be on the roster.

Desmond Howard? I believe we traded a 1st round pick for Coles who we then traded for Tana. Just count those guys as first round picks

I rather doubt Quinn or Peters was jonesing to play the guy who might have had the statistical worst pre-season in the history of the league. And I don't think Kliff had to tell them it would have been a bad idea.

Make no mistake, I would have 100% played him. And told him to play left handed and if we won I would have his head shaved.

My point is I don’t think it had anything to do with the relationship between Kliff and Quinn/Peters, which is what I was replying to.
