The 2026 Draft Thread - 1st Round - 7th overall

Love is the guy I want. Above everyone else. I just can’t see giving up picks for him. As much as I’d like him.

If we were more well rounded as a team I’d feel better about it. But we still have so many holes to fill

I would for the right RB in the right situation.

However, we're not in the right situation because of lack of draft picks even if it was the right player. And maybe Love is the right player, maybe not. I would never do the Ricky Williams trade Ditka did, but a modest trade for a special player? Why not.

If you told me we could draft the 2026 equivalent of Edgerin James or Marshall Faulk but needed a modest trade up, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

To me, there are two levels of RB:
1) They change the game, future HOF level, worth it no matter what.
2) Everybody else.

If you can get #1, you should do it. It's a force multiplier for 5 years. And that's just fine.

I'd probably do it if we had more picks.

But we don't.

So we won't.

But I also think that means we don't get him because I don't think he's going to be there at 7. I think somebody is going to get cold feet on one of the DE's because of something (short arms, whatever), and just not be able to resist probably the best player in the draft.

So I don't think we're getting Love, though I would jump over people to turn the card in if he was there at 7.

Thing is you cant ever know if you are trading up for a RB like that. The positional value alone makes trading up for a RB not doable. You trade up for premium positions only.

I personally don't agree. I think there's too much stock put in what a premium position is. I get the reason why people say that, and there are analytics to back it up.

But if you think you're getting "that guy" go for it. If you're wrong, you're wrong. But if you have a chance to get a HOF level player and don't take it because they play safety or RB, then I think that's a mistake. Would I trade up for a center into the top 5? Probably not. Unless you were damn sure it was Jason Kelce. But you'd have to be really sure it was Jason Kelce. Kelce might have been as responsible for the Eagles SB wins as any player on the roster.
 
Here is where I currently am if the team signs a Juwan Jennings or similar player (not named Aiyuk) in order, if available:

1. Love
2. Reese
3. Downs
4, Styles
5. Tate

And if they don’t sign a Jennings or comparable player (not named Aiyuk):

1. Love
2. Tate
3. Reese
4. Downs
5. Styles

I just can’t rely on Aiyuk in my calculus because there are so many open questions about him. Styles was and would be much higher on my lists had Chenal not been added.

Love fits my long-held desire of having an absolute weapon that could keep opposing DCs up at night and paired with Jayden…doubly so.

Me too. I just don’t think he’s going to be there.

I hope he is and I hope we snag him.

But I think he’s going in the top 5.

It is the cost of that position that matters. We just signed White for 2 million dollars. A really good RB. You are not signing a premium position player of White's history for less than 12 million. Not goona happen. That is my point. I would take any player at a premium position at 7 over Love. Because the draft is a crap shoot. And the economics of football say if you can lock down a premium position for 5 years you do it.

Thats how to build a bad team. You take the best available talent in a draft. Every time.

Once every 5-10 years? Hyperbole if I’ve ever seen it. Feels like every year or every other year, there is a standout back who gets this type of treatment

It’s not just the lack of picks, it is the ability to hit a high slugging percentage with the Day 2 and Day 3 picks, something the Lions and Rams have shown but AP has yet to show

I still think it’s still early to pass final judgement.

But it doesn’t look great for 2024’s class. What’s odd though is after 2024, both Coleman and Sainristil looked extremely promising.

But then 2025 happened.

Kelce wasn't even on the team for the recent SB win.

No. Usually RBs go 2nd or 3rd round. Then good years you can get a couple in the 1st. And not that often is a RB even considered the BEST player in the draft. Ill agree to disagree with that. We had so.many years of seeing good backs go in the 2nd or 3rd round. This year there is one stud back and a lot of people consider him the best player in the draft. Is he gonna be a Barkley, Bijan, Henry? IDK and im not saying that. But Im not hyping Love up. Everyone else is. But I do hope we draft him.

Huh. You're right. I guess I just remember him celebrating a SB, maybe it was Travis' SB win.

That's fairly amusing.

But he's still a HOF center, I think is my point. And was really key to a lot of success they had over the years.
