Commanders free agent signings​

  • Rachaad White signs on as a new face in the Washington backfield.
  • Offensive lineman Trent Scott has re-signed on a one-year deal.
  • Another defensive lineman: Charles Omenihu comes on board in free agency from the Chiefs.
  • Nick Cross joins to play safety for the Commanders.
  • The Commanders have their TE1: Chig Okonkwo from the Titans.
  • Another addition to the pass rush with K'Lavon Chaisson from the Patriots.
  • The Commanders add a solid off-ball linebacker, Leo Chanel, from the Chiefs on a three-year contract.
  • Tim Settle is another D-line addition, where he'll play on the interior on a three-year deal.

I read the Doubs comments - he has a major bromance from afar for Drake Maye for some reason.

Looking at Maye in 2025 vs. Daniels in 2024 I think most observers would say that Daniels competed with a lot less talent overall on the roster.

Maye meanwhile was very average in the playoffs against some good defenses he finally ran into in Denver and Seattle.

I agree on Vrabel, though.

I find it amusing that a lot of fans were like 'a team HAS to hire an offensive coach because if you hire a defensive coach then a team can poach the OC and it hurts your team', etc.

Meanwhile BOTH teams that made it to the Super Bowl had defensive head coaches.

Didn't see Ben Johnson in the game.

His offense was left on the 4 yard line in the playoffs with 3 questionable calls in a row that the defense was able to sniff out pretty easily.

So much for the creativity factor.

This coming from someone who had a slight preference for Maye over Daniels predraft but loved both. I do think Jayden in the end will be the better QB.

But for now, Maye is the one with the edge from a receny bias perspective.

Supposedly he was very upset at times about a lack of targets in GB. I think his decision was as simple as looking at NE without Diggs and knowing he's going to be THE guy there. With McLaurin here and knowing Aiyuk is likely coming at some point, the expectation is probably he continues to fill that 2/3/4 role which is what he wasn't happy with in GB. Still hated we didn't get him but I assume that heavily influenced his decision. Who else are they going to throw it to in NE? Boute, et al are alright, but he's going to be THE guy there.

Lemon over Tyson for me definitely. And if it really is to be a Lions style offense, Lemon is a pretty damn good knock off of ARSB. I’d much prefer Love or Tate but if they’re both gone, trading back a couple spots and grabbing Lemon is pretty solid. Maybe get an extra 3rd out of it.

And if there aren’t any trade down partners, I might even want Lemon over Downs at 7. Would need to see a lot more but it’s possible my wish list ends up in that order.

I mean.... Peters dug his heels in on Terry - I don't think any player is gonna make him do something he doesn't want to do.

He’ll be the main man until they trade for AJ Brown.

At least I can respect that Doubs wanted to go to a team with a good coaching staff.

Some of these guys take $1 more to go to a cesspool like the Cardinals or Titans that are like blind squirrels looking for a nut in the forest.

What I am wondering here is if Peters had an issue with giving the then 29 year old McLaurin a multi-year deal at high AAV in 2025 that he may not want to give the 29 year old Jennings a bit less but still a high AAV in a similar situation in 2026.

There is a bias in the NFL against giving receivers and backs a lot of money as they approach 30 unless they are special players like Barkley or a J'Marr Chase, etc.

Maybe not on a major contracts, But Jayden’s getting some friends brought in on accommodating contracts, he’ll have influence.
