First of all, recognize that many, many fans are not even ON social media. There are probably many more who do not actively look at Facebook, X, Reddit, Instagram, than do. So right out of the gate, using social media to gauge global fan sentiment is going to be problematic. Secondly, we all should know that there are certain social media posters who are going to post to 'get a reaction'. Whether you call it trolling, click-bait, exaggeration, whatever... some are posting to get a reaction. It's just human nature. If you have two people loudly posting opinions that are on the extreme edges of the spectrum of possible takes, one can probably assume that *most* people have beliefs that fall somewhere in the middle of those positions. That's why they call those takes 'extreme'.
As far as comparing Reddit or X to this place - sure, we are a 'social media' site. But we are also a site where the intelligence level and expectations on the level of discourse are a lot higher. But yeah, even here, the most extreme positions are probably going to be the 'loudest'.
I don't know how one can argue with a straight face that social media posts aren't by definition inflammatory, biased, and extreme in general.
So yeah, I think you are wildly overestimating the hate for Cousins amongst the general fanbase. And I will go further, he's much more well-liked than RG3 probably is.
