Random Commanders Thoughts

As I recall, Cousins did want to stay, Allen botched the negotiations.

As for Griffin, he gets WAY more hate. Cousins may have no idea how to properly grill a steak, but Griffin is a complete narcissistic assclown.
Griffin does not get way more hate, not even close. I've been posting on this team's boards for 25 years, Kirk is constantly mentioned and Griff is rarely talked about. Wasn't ES forced to make a rule that no Cousins talk was allowed in Redskins threads because the threads always got derailed and contentious? They never had to do that with RGIII.

You should know then that the loudest folks on social media sites rarely are 'representative' of any team's fanbase, and certainly not the fanbase as a whole. Reasonable takes on social media, when they are actually posted, don't get the attention that those on the extreme fringes do. And we all fall into the trap of assuming those kinds of takes represent a large portion of the fanbase.

Why are you so fired up about this, lol?

Just like Scherff - he could've easily just said 'I'm going to do what's best for me and my family, we'll see what happens'. There is no reason to lie - and 'not lying' didn't require him to bare his soul to the fanbase either. I don't hate Cousins (and I think your whole assertion that half the fanbase does is a red herring). I just didn't like the way he played it on the way out. And folks can trash Bruce Allen for 'lowballing' Cousins but the truth is that it was other teams who wildly overpaid for Kirk's services who have been left holding the bag with not much to show for it. I would've preferred we had found a way to re-sign him, but in retrospect it's not exactly a disaster of epic proportions that we didn't.
Because the reasons given for the hate still makes no sense. Yours is another example and I have explained why, players lie all the time.

As for your second post if this is true then why should we take anyone's opinion here seriously, including yours LOL? This is social media and I'm going to assume the posts reflect a poster's actual feelings. So yes it's a very good way to judge opinions. And the post critical of Cousins outweigh the posts critical of Griff 800 to 1.

Speaking of the fake news that was mentioned earlier my wife read on Facebook that Joe Gibbs had a terminal brain tumor or something. How can this happen, I was really scared.

But Boone how would that be any different than the posts here as I had said? Are you ready to dismiss our opinions so easily? Because it's the exact same thing. Are you saying fans didn't really want Gonzales over Forbes it's just those people were the loudest? People post on social media to share their opinions right? So we can judge the fan's opinions by their replies and there have been far more critical of Kirk than Robert and it's not even close.

I was ready to move on but I'm still struggling to understand your position.

First of all, recognize that many, many fans are not even ON social media. There are probably many more who do not actively look at Facebook, X, Reddit, Instagram, than do. So right out of the gate, using social media to gauge global fan sentiment is going to be problematic. Secondly, we all should know that there are certain social media posters who are going to post to 'get a reaction'. Whether you call it trolling, click-bait, exaggeration, whatever... some are posting to get a reaction. It's just human nature. If you have two people loudly posting opinions that are on the extreme edges of the spectrum of possible takes, one can probably assume that *most* people have beliefs that fall somewhere in the middle of those positions. That's why they call those takes 'extreme'.

As far as comparing Reddit or X to this place - sure, we are a 'social media' site. But we are also a site where the intelligence level and expectations on the level of discourse are a lot higher. But yeah, even here, the most extreme positions are probably going to be the 'loudest'.

I don't know how one can argue with a straight face that social media posts aren't by definition inflammatory, biased, and extreme in general.

So yeah, I think you are wildly overestimating the hate for Cousins amongst the general fanbase. And I will go further, he's much more well-liked than RG3 probably is.

I love the board, but sometimes posts are just toooooo long! TL/DR

😂 I’m definitely one of the culprits. Think of it as a snack for your brain (for good or bad lol), the average American no longer reads any type of long form writing. Only half of all adults even read a book in the last year! So we have to do our part writing too many paragraphs here, that a few people may read, and fewer will find value in lol

People here don't start new threads like "Breaking news, Joe Gibbs has terminal brain cancer" because they would quickly and swiftly get dealt with. That stuff is ALL OVER the place on social media. I've seen so many 'breaking news' posts on facebook groups that are flat out false, that I've actively left all of those groups. I dont know why there is so much nonsense out there like that, but it's just the way it is. People posting on here, generally, aren't making statements to just annoy, get clicks, or get reactions. We've had a few people come, and go, across this board with that type of posting style.. but it generally isn't fun for them, and it's not from us on staff.... they tend to get called out and exposed by the other board members.

I based my opinion on fans I heard on the radio, spoke with in person and mostly on message boards such as yours. I am of the opinion that if you spend your time on a message board or call a radio station to discuss the team that means you care a lot about the team. So I value those opinions and never considered them comments made just to get a reaction, these are fans invested in the team and they are voicing their honest opinion.

I think it’s entirely at their discretion how much they choose to spend. I’ve posted this elsewhere, but unlike Snyder, who had one revenue stream, Harris had multiple, including I’m sure some residual interests in private equity which is where he made his money.

Mitch Rales also is loaded.

between the two of them only, they have a net worth of over $15 billion. Any amount of cash they want to get, they can get in a variety of ways.

So it’s not like they don’t have access to the money. Snyder was entirely dependent on NFL revenues sharing. And the dumb fuck spent the money on his private jet and yacht rather than on the team. Which was his right but ultimately cost him in the end.

Now, how much they choose to spend? Who knows. And why they will choose to spend what they choose to spend. Again who knows.

However they have many ways to get to cash. You didn’t say this, but the idea that they are cash strapped is not true. The idea that they might want to be fiscally conservative for whatever reason might be true. We’ll see. They also might go crazy. Who knows.

As someone who does this for a living, it’s likely that, in their presentation materials, Harris committed to a certain cash on cash return for his limited partners. They probably raised enough upfront (at least in terms of commitments tying to future capital calls) for the team, improving current facilities, future stadium and reserves.

Given existing ownership structure, Rales can’t go just inject capital as he wants to as that would dilute other investors. A consent would be required by a majority of investors

Yeah, it's a good point. And I don't want to minimize that it would take some doing, some trees would have to die and some lawyers would get rich.

But if they needed additional funds, what I'm saying is, it can happen. Unlike with Snyder, where there was really no good way for him to make it happen on his own...

Between you, me and skinsinparadise we've written more words on this (and the previous) board than the Iliad and the Odyssey, War and Peace and the entire Harry Potter series combined!

We are doing our part, damnit!

We definitely need to fix that (Innocent whistle while debating on dropping the link to his new book.)

I’ve never been to London. Sounds like the perfect excuse to finally go!

Hopefully we play the Bengals…would be a fun high scoring game
